Background: The indications and the optimal time of surgery of infective endocarditis are controversial. We report the surgical results of our hospital during the last 10 years with literature review. Material and Method: Between January 2000 and December 2009, we enrolled 23 infective endocarditis patients who underwent surgery, and analyzed retrospectively. In the preoperative blood culture, 8 cases (34.8%) were positive. The average preoperative antibiotics treatment period was $20.78{\pm}16.00$ days. There were 12 (52.2%) urgent operations. The average follow up period was $49.26{\pm}33.21$ months. Result: 20 mechanical valve replacements were performed, 9 in aortic position, 8 in mitral position and 3 in the both positions. The other procedures were one mitral valvuloplasty, one infected myxoma extirpation, and one infected pacemaker lead removal with debridement. The average period of postoperative intravenous antibiotic treatment was $24.39{\pm}15.98$ days. There were 5 complications, including 2 cases of postoperative bleeding, one postcardiotomy syndrome, one cerebral ischemia, and a low cardiac output syndrome. There were statistically significant postoperative improvement in NYHA class, left ventricle end diastolic/end systolic volume, and left atrium size (p-value < 0.05). Conclusion: We could obtain the satisfactory results without any moftalities by using sufficient preoperative antibiotics in hemodynamically stable patients, and by prompt surgery in unstable patients.
In this study, it was found that determined the photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics (lincomycin, LM) with various catalyst composite of titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$), hydroxyapatite (HAP) and germanium (Ge) under UV-A irradiation. At first, various type of complex catalysts were investigated to compare the enhanced photocatalytic potential. It was observed that in order to obtain the removal efficiencies were $TiO_2/HAP/Ge$ > $TiO_2/Ge$ > $TiO_2/HAP$. The composition of $TiO_2/HAP/Ge$ using a statistical approach based on mixture analysis design, one of response surface method was investigated. The independent variables of $TiO_2$ ($X_1$), HAP ($X_2$) and Ge ($X_3$) which consisted of 6 condition in each variables was set up to determine the effects on LM ($Y_1$) and TOC ($Y_2$) degradation. Regression analysis on analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed significant p-value (p < 0.05) and high coefficients for determination value ($R^2$ of $Y_1=99.28%$ and $R^2$ of $Y_2=98.91%$). Contour plot and response curve showed that the effects of $TiO_2/HAP/Ge$ composition for LM degradation under UV-A irradiation. And the estimated optimal composition for TOC removal ($Y_2$) were $X_1=0.6913$, $X_2=0.2313$ and $X_3=0.0756$ by coded value. By comparison with actual applications, the experimental results were found to be in good agreement with the model's predictions, with mean results for LM and TOC removal of 99.2% and 49.3%, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to establish a simple vitrification protocols to preserve animal cell lines derived from tissues of livestock that could be recultured. Bovine oviduct epithelial cells (BOEC) were used for the vitrification process using a 0.25 ml straw to increase cryopreservation efficiency. BOEC was cultured from the oviduct of 3.5-day estrus state, and the commercially available polyampholyte StemCell KeepTM was used as a cryoprotective agent. Using different concentrations, the viability rates of BOEC in 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, and 100% in freezing media were investigated. Survivability was determined using a differential staining technique using a trypan blue test and a CYTO-13/PI staining protocol. The viability rates of BOEC in the trypan blue test were 5.6±11.8, 12.5±7.2, 53.0±2.7, 85.1±6.9, 79.8±0.6, and 60.7±6.7% with a respective concentration of StemCell KeepTM. The viability rates in CYTO-13/PI staining were 4.6±2.5, 30.8±12.1, 58.4±2.5, 85.5±1.2, 79.8±0.6, and 71.2±1.2%, respectively. These results indicate that BOEC could be preserved with StemCell KeepTM without toxicity in a 0.25-ml straw. The optimal concentration of vitrification solution with StemCell KeepTM was determined to be 50% and can be considered as a proper preservation method for cryobanking.
Cephalometric measureements have disadvantage of representing cranio-facial structures in two dimension only and therefore they pose limitations in describing three-dimentional structures of cranio-facial region. More interests have been put on the correlation between the two planes. This study evaluated correlations between facial type score, which allows effects on malocclusion, growth change prediction and establishment of treatment method and prognosis, and measurements from submentovertex view. Cephalometric view and submentovertex view were taken of skeletal Class I adults with optimal profile and correlations between them have been observed. Following results were obtained: 1. To learn about factors that influence average condylar angulation, FACE, INT-CO-ANG, MN-CORPUS, CON-RATIO, GON-RATIO, MN-RATIO were used as variables and underwent multiple regression analysis. As a result, the following equation was obtained : CON-AVE=.l73(FACE)-.322(INT-CO-ANG)+36.34(GON-RATIO) +.420(MN-CORPUS) (($R^2=.85451$) 2. The following equation was obtained concerning facial type score. FACE= .050(CON-ANG)+.023(INT-CO-ANG)-.075(MN-CORPUS)($R^2=.31547$) 3. Among the submentovertex measurements, MN-CORPUS, CON-RATIO, GON-RATIO, MN-RATIO showed close correlations. (P<0.05) 4. Average condylar angualtions were $23.37^{\circ}$ on the right and $20.71^{\circ}$ on left. There was a difference between the two. FACE : facial type soore. CON-ANG: mean value of condylar angulation. CON-AVE: mean value of Rt. Lt condylar angulation. INT-CO-ANG : angle between Rt. Lt condylar axis. MN-CORPUS : angle formed between RT. Lt gonion & pogonion. CON-RATIO: lntercondylar distance/mandibular body length. GON-RATIO : intergonion distanoe/mandibular body length. MN-RATIO: lntermylohyoid distance/mandibular body length. MX-RATIO: intermaxillary tuberosity distance/ANS-PNS distance.
Kilauea Volcano is one of the most active volcano in the world. In this study, we used the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 satellite imagery to measure the surface deformation occurring near the summit of the Kilauea volcano from 2015 to 2017. In order to measure two-dimensional surface deformation, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) and multiple aperture SAR interferometry (MAI) methods were performed using two interferometric pairs. To improve the precision of 2D measurement, we compared root-mean-squared deviation (RMSD) of the difference of measurement value as we change the effective antenna length and normalized squint value, which are factors that can affect the measurement performance of the MAI method. Through the compare, the values of the factors, which can measure deformation most precisely, were selected. After select optimal values of the factors, the RMSD values of the difference of the MAI measurement were decreased from 4.07 cm to 2.05 cm. In each interferograms, the maximum deformation in line-of-sight direction is -28.6 cm and -27.3 cm, respectively, and the maximum deformation in the along-track direction is 20.2 cm and 20.8 cm, in the opposite direction is -24.9 cm and -24.3 cm, respectively. After stacking the two interferograms, two-dimensional surface deformation mapping was performed, and a maximum surface deformation of approximately 30.4 cm was measured in the northwest direction. In addition, large deformation of more than 20 cm were measured in all directions. The measurement results show that the risk of eruption activity is increasing in Kilauea Volcano. The measurements of the surface deformation of Kilauea volcano from 2015 to 2017 are expected to be helpful for the study of the eruption activity of Kilauea volcano in the future.
This study was undertaken to investigate the relation between orthodontic force magnitude and the amount of tooth movement. And more light force application for reducing root resorption Twenty-four rats were divided into three experimental groups(A, B, C) based on force magnitude and application method. Springs of 50g force were applied to A group, springs of 100g force were applied to B group and springs of 25g force were applied to C group initially, and after 4 days springs of C group were changed to springs of 50g force. Two kinds of $sentally^{(R)}$(GAC U.S.A.) closed coil spring, 50g and 100g, were used. And we made 25g springs by heat treatment process of 50g springs. Each spring was inserted between the maxillary central incisor and the maxillary left first molar. Amounts of tooth movement were measured everyday by digital caliper($Digimatic^{(R)}$, Mitutoyo, Japan) under inhalation anesthesia for 15 days. After 15 days, all rats were sacrificed and histological samples were obtained with Hematoxyline-Eosin stain and Masson's trichrome stain. Following conclusion were made; 1. Group B showed the mean cumulative tooth movement of $2.19{\pm}0.41mm$ at 15th day, which was greatest among three groups, followed by group C($2.06{\pm}0.10mm$), group A($1.90{\pm}0.49mm$) respectively. however, there was no statistically difference among three groups. 2. All groups showed general tooth movement pattern and A, B, C group finished lag phase at 9th, 8th, 7th day, but there was no statistical significance. 3. Group A,B,C showed root resorption and especially group B showed the most severe root resorption and group C showed milder root resorption than other groups. According to the above results, large initial force with the development of a flirty widespread hyalinized zone may cause severe root resorption, so initial force should be applied lightly to reduce hyalinized area and eventually root resorption and then increased force will induce efficient tooth movement.
trans-Resveratrol(3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is phenolic compound present in grapes, wines, and peanuts, has been reported to have health benefits including anticarcinogenic effects, protection against cardiovascular diseases and reduced cancer risk. A simple method for the quantitative extraction of trans-resveratrol from peanut has been developed. Optimal conditions for extraction were investigated. Type of solvent, time, and temperature assayed influenced trans-resveratrol yield. Adequate extraction condition was decided to ethanol/water (80:20v/v) maintained at $25^{\circ}C$ for 45 min. After extraction, the protocol consists of sample preparation using a $\textrm{C}_{18}$ solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridge after concentrate with rotary evaporator and quantified by reversed phase HPLC using a $\textrm{C}_{18}$ column at 308 nm. Analytical methods for measuring trans-resveratrol in peanut were adapted to isolate, identify, and quantify trans-resveratrol in 11 peanut varieties by HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) with UV detector, The 11 peanut varieties content ranged from 0.018 to 1.125 $\mu\textrm{g}/\textrm{g}$ with an average of 0.289 $\mu\textrm{g}/\textrm{g}$. The contents were higher in the seeds with than without testa, regardless of varieties. The trans-resveratrol content was Higher in 110, 130 days after sowing than that of other period.
To improve the storage method for kimchi, optimal ripening kimchi was irradiated with doses of 1, 3, 5kGy Co-60gamma radiation, followed by the microbiological, physicochemical and senosory evaluations during storage at $5^{\circ}C$. 1. Total aerobic count increased in the beginning of storage and then decreased slowly as the number of total lactobacilli (anaerobe) increased. The above, total aerobic and lactobacilli were reduced by 1 to 3 log cycles with irradiation and at the 90th day after storage the number of total lactobacilli remained $1.30{\times}10^{8}$ per ml in 3 kGy irradiated group. Irradiation treatment at 3 kGy sterilized coliforms and molds contaminating the sample as the level of $2.0{\times}10^{4}$ per ml and $5.4{\times}10^{2}$ per ml respectively and no apparent growth was observed in both control and 1 kGy irradiated groups after 20 days of storage. The population of yeast, $3.5{\times}10^{3}$ per ml initially, increased steadily during kimchi storage and at 90 days of storage the number was shown to be $5.6{\times}10^{4}$ per ml and $6.5{\times}10^{2}$ per ml in control and 3 kGy irradiated groups, respectively. 2. In the physicochemical changes during kimchi storage, pH, acidity and volatile acid of non-irradiated control at the 45th day after storage were 4.0, 0.7% and 0.066%, while those of 3 kGy irradiated group were 4.2, 0.59 and 0.06% at the 90th day of storage, respectively. The reducing sugar content of all stored samples changed inversely total acidity content, indicating irradiation delayed the changes of them. The amount of ascorbic acid decreased gradually with the storage time and irradiation dose increase. Textural parameters of 3 kGy irradiated group were superior to those of other groups at the latter stage of storage. 3. Sensory evaluations showed that 3 kGy irradiation was the optimum dose level to extend the shelf-life of kimchi more than two months as compared to control.

Part of the locally applied, as well as the systemic applied, fluoride is absorbed into the body to aid in the prevention of caries. However, beyond a certain level, systemic distribution of fluoride can cause chronic fluorosis with attending systemic symptoms and dental fluorosis. Thus it is vital to determine the level of fluoride with minimal side effects which will provide optimal caries prevention. A commonly utilized method of regressively determining fluoride intade is to measure the fluoride concentration of excreted urine. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the clearance time and concentration of fluoride in urine after administration of various doses of fluoride using HMDS-diffusion technique and fluoride ion electrode(Orion, 96-09, U.S.A.). Urine samples were collected in 7 adult subjects every morning after administration of fluoride supplements such as no fluoride(control group), 1mg fluoride(group 1), 2mg fluoride(group 2), 3mg fluoride(group 3), 4mg fluoride(group 4). The obtained results were as follows 1. Mean urinary fluoride concentration of control group was $0.707{\pm}0.362ppm$. 2. Fluoride levels followed as group 4(4.076ppm). group 3(2.400ppm), group 2(1.494ppm), group 1(1.051ppm) at day 1 after fluoride administration. There were no statistical differences between the urinary fluoride concentration of group 1, 2, 3 and control group after day 2, but there was statistical difference between group 4 and control group at day 2(p<0.05). 3. Urinary fluoride concentration increased and plateaued according to increasing fluoride dosage. The increased concentration remained significantly higher till day 2, but after day 3, there was no significant difference compared to the control.
The purpose of this study is to examine the quality characteristics of lamb stock by different salt contents in it. For this purpose, mechanical tests (color value, pH, sugar content, salinity, amino-acid content) and sensory evaluation (attribute difference test & acceptance) were conducted, showing the following results; Salinity and sugar increased significantly (p<0.01, p<0.001) with salt contents increased. The 0.1% salt addition group contained 32 kinds of free amino-acids, while 0.2% and 0.3% contained 34. 0.4% salt addition group turned out to contain 34 kinds of free amino-acid in it. The amount of the free amino-acid content was also the highest with 0.3% sample group, followed by 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.1% sample group. In the test group, 9 kinds of essential amino-acid were discovered, and all samples contained histidine and arginine, which were essential in the growth of children. Among all samples, arginine appeared to be the highest in content. Each of the essential amino-acid content varied with statistical significance among the sample groups. In addition, 14 kinds of amino-acids other than the above mentioned were discovered, as well. The 0.3% salt addition group showed the highest 'after taste' value, and the differences among the sample groups were statistically significant(p<0.001). The acceptance test of the lamb stock showed that the flavor and mouth feel did not vary among the sample groups with statistical significance. The control group had the highest value for appearance, measuring scoring 4.32, and the sample group of 0.2% salt addition showed the lowest value of appearance, scoring 3.63. As for the preference on the taste, the highest value of 4.09 came from the 0.3% salt addition group. The differences between the sample groups were statistically significant. Finally, with regard to the overall quality, the 0.3% salt addition group had the highest value of 4.23 while the control group scored the lowest, 3.52. The differences among the samples were statistically significant. The overall result of the study indicated that the optimal rate of salt addition in making lamb stock was 0.3%.
