  • The aim of this paper is to suggest a design method of the model following optimal boiler-turbine H.inf. control system using genetic algorithm. This boiler-turbine H.inf. control system is designed by applying genetic algortihm with reference model to the optimal determination of weighting functions and design parameter .gamma. that are given by Glover-Doyle algornithm whch can design H.inf. contrlaaer in the sate. space. The first method to do this is ghat the gains of weightinf functions and .gamma. are optimized simultaneously by genetic algroithm. And the second method is that not only the gains and .gamma. but also the dynamics of weighting functions are optimized at the same time by genetic algonithm. The effectiveness of this boiler-turbine H.inf. control system is verified and compared with LQG/LTR control system by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we characterize the smoothest density with prescribed moments. Hong and Kim(1995) proved the existence and uniqueness of such as density. we introduce the general optimal control problem and prove some theorems on the characterization of the minimizer using the optimal control problem techniques.

  • This paper suggests an inverse optimal PID control design method for the trajectory tracking case of mechanical systems. Also, simple coarse/fine performance tuning laws are suggested based on the analysis for performance limitation of inverse optimal PID controller. Experimental results for a robot manipulator show the validity of our analysis for the performance tuning methods.

  • The feedback controllers for the active vibration control of elastic systems are developed using optimal regulator, optimal tracking, time optimal and noise observer algorithms. Using the modal analysis of the elastic systems, the effects of the actuator positions, the input weighting factor and the magnitude of the constraint of the actuator force are investigated.

  • In this paper we consider the optimal control problem of both operators and parameters for nonlinear hyperbolic systems. For the identification problem, we show that for every value of the parameter and operators, the optimal control problem has a solution. Moreover we obtain the necessary conditions of optimality for the optimal control problem on the system.

  • This paper proposes an optimal current control method for improving efficiency of Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor. The proposed optimal current control method is based on the maximum torque point analysis of Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The proposed method can increase the effective voltage at the maximum torque point of BLDC motor and increase the output torque per unit current to increase the efficiency. In order to verify the proposed optimal current control method, have developed the prototype of a 50 [W] class motor drive and experimented by 20 [W] motor using the dynamometer set. This was verified.

  • This paper presents an optimal initial firing angle control based on the energy consumption and regenerative energy of a parallel multi-pulse thyristor dual converter for urban railway power substations. To prevent short circuiting the thyristor dual converter, a hysteresis band for maintaining a zero-current discontinuous section (ZCDS) is essential during mode changes. During conversion from the ZCDS to forward or reverse mode, the DC trolley voltage can be stabilized by selecting the optimal initial firing angle without an overshoot and slow response. However, the optimal initial firing angle is different depending on the line impedance of each converter. Therefore, the control algorithm for tracking the optimal initial firing angle is proposed to eliminate the overshoot and slow response of DC trolley voltage. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed algorithm yields the fastest DC voltage control performance in the transient state by tracking the optimal firing angle.

  • In CVT vehicle, the engine speed is completely decoupled from the vehicle speed within the range from maximum transmission ratio to minimum transmission ratio. This allows the engine to operate in optimal state(e.g. best fuel economy or maximum power mode.) In this study, the CVT control algorithm for optimal operation of engine is suggested. In order to implement the real time digital control of electro-hydraulic CVT system, a software called CVTCON has been developed. CVTCON also includes the CVT operation module, (2) system test module, (3) system control module and (4) data management module. By using the CVTCON and the electro-hydraulic CVT system, two modes of experiments were carried out: constant throttle opening mode and acceleration mode. From the experimental result, it was found that the algorithm suggested in this study showed optimal operation of the CVT system.

  • In this paper, the optimal position selection of error sensors and transducers to attenuate interior noise from outside noise sources using active control techniques is presented. To get an optimal control characteristics in adaptive noise control systems, it is necessary to optimize the positions of sensors and transducers. A new type of simulated annealing method has been proposed as searching technique to find optimal transducers and sensors positions in which the sum of the squared pressures at sensor position in an enclosure can be best minimized. Computer simulations and experiments have been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • We consider the Newton's method for an direct solver of the optimal control problems of the Navier-Stokes equations. We show that the finite element solutions of the optimal control problem for Stoke equations may be chosen as the initial guess for the quadratic convergence of Newton's algorithm applied to the optimal control problem for the Navier-Stokes equations provided there are sufficiently small mesh size h and the moderate Reynold's number.
