We investigated the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and the Hanle spectrum in a paraffin coated Rb vapor cell. The EIT spectrum was observed in the $F_g=2$, $3{\rightarrow}F_e=3$ transition of the $^{85}Rb$$D_1$-line by using two independent external cavity diode lasers, and the Hanle spectrum was observed by using one external cavity diode laser in the $\Lambda$-type scheme between the Zeeman sublevels of the $F_g=2{\rightarrow}F_e=1$ transition of the $^{87}Rb$$D_1$-line. In the Hanle spectrum, we could observe the dual-structured spectrum in the paraffin coated vapor cell. We investigated the dual-structured lineshape by applying an external magnetic field, and varying the direction of the magnetic field. The narrow linewidth of dual-structured EIT was measured to be approximately 200 Hz.
ZnAl-LDH(layered double hydroxide) (Zn:Al=2:1 mole ratio) modified with stearic acid (SA) or oleic acid (OA) was synthesized by a coprecipitation method and compounded to SAN polymer at various contents. All the SAN composites were manufactured by a co-rotating twin-screw extruder and subsequently injection molded into several specimen. Morphology, transparency, and thermal resistance of these composites were evaluated by TEM, XRD(X-ray diffractometry), UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and thermogravimetric analysis. SAN nanocomposites containing OA-$Zn_2Al$ LDH showed better optical transmittance than SAN nanocomposites containing SA-$Zn_2Al$ LDH. All the SAN nanocomposites containing OA-$Zn_2Al$ LDH or SA-$Zn_2Al$ LDH exhibited improvement of thermal resistance at second stage of thermal oxidation. These results were explained by the fact that the interaction between organic modifier and polymer performed an important role in the property improvement of polymer nanocomposites.

The 'field-effect' underlies the operation of most conventional electronic devices. However, effective control and implementation of the field-effect in semiconductor devices are limited due to screening of the electric-field by conducting electrodes. Thus far, the electronic devices have necessarily been designed to avoid or minimize the electric-field screening effect. As an alternative approach to this, a new type of conducting electrodes which would be transparent to both visible light and electric-field while being electrically conductive have been developed. Here, we define these electrodes as 'electric-field transparent electrodes' and provide a review on related work. Particular attention is paid to the material selection and design strategies to enhance the electric-field transparency of the electrodes while maintaining good electrical conductivity and optical transparency. We then introduce potential applications of the electric-field transparent electrodes in electronic and optoelectronic devices.

We have fabricated transparent polymer composite films with high thermal emissivity, which can be used for heat dissipation of transparent electronics. PMMA (poly(methyl methacrylate)) solution with high transparency and thermal emissivity is mixed with various fillers (carbon nanotubes (CNTs), aluminum nitride (AlN), or silicon carbide (SiC)) with high thermal conductivity. We have achieved the thermal emissivity as high as 0.94 by the addition of CNTs. Compared with the PMMA film on glass, however, the addition of AlN or SiC is shown to rather decrease the thermal emissivity. It is also observed that the thickness of the PMMA film does not affect its thermal emissivity. To avoid any degradation of the thermal conductivity, therefore, the PMMA film thickness is desirable to be $1{\mu}m$. There also exists a tradeoff between the optical transmittance and thermal conductivity on the selection of the amount of fillers.
New poly(arylene ether)s (PAEs) with both transparency and heat-resistance were prepared by a polycondensation of FBPODS, an ordered-sequence aromatic dihalide, and cardo typed aromatic diols containing fluorene and/or adamantane moiety and also non-cardo typed 1,5-naphthalene diol. The resulting polymers had their glass transition temperatures ranged from 202 to $247^{\circ}C$. Based on TGA data, they exhibited excellent thermal stabilities, showing 5% weight loss at $434-487^{\circ}C$. They had low thermal expansion coefficients of 58-59 ppm at temperature range of $50-200^{\circ}C$ as well as good mechanical properties with moduli of 1757-2143 MPa. The optical transmittance for the PAE films was over 70% at 550 nm, except for the PAE that contains naphthalene moiety (30% at 550 nm). They also showed water uptake of about 0.68% regardless of their chemical compositions. Therefore, the newly developed PAEs show strong potential as plastic substrates for flexible devices for display, solar cell and e-paper.
This study is to compare and analyze two types of 'transparency' concept expressed in architecture and garment which has not only been an important theme in the post-modern expression of architeture but been shown in various types of concept. This study examined the characteristics of transparency and through theoretical studies divided them into four types; frankness(purity ambiguity comparison exposure and eroticism) Purity building would use the matrial which is transparent glasses for the expprssion of its purity and clothing would use the transparent matrial for the expression of the natural beauty of human body and the purity of human of itself. Ambiguity is expressed in the outer side of architecture by duplicating transparent materials and by phenomenon of optical illusion and inflection. On the contrary in garment it is shown in the outward formation of underclothing. Comparison in architecture is expressed by the use of void but opaque materials as well as solid but transparent materials. Extinction is expressed with the visual effect of context of the surrounding by the use of opaque glass and reflexive glass. In garment the effect of comparison is expressed by the use of mixing transparent materials and opaque materials. Building would express the inside of itself by the way of its exposure and clothing would also express its frankness through the human body is partly opened or clossed at the same thime that arises from eroticism of the way of the expression of human feelings.
In this paper, we introduce our system for manufacturing a Rb vapor cell and describe its fabrication process in a sequence of removing impurities, cold trapping, and sealing off. Saturated absorption spectroscopy was performed to verify the quality of our cell by comparing it to that of a commercial one. By using the lab-fabricated Rb vapor cell, we observed electromagnetically induced transparency in a ladder-type system corresponding to the 5S1/2-5P3/2-28D5/2 transition of the 85Rb atom. A highly excited Rydberg atomic system was prepared using two counter-propagating external cavity diode lasers with wavelengths of 780 nm and 480 nm. We also observed the Autler-Townes splitting signal while a radio-frequency source around 100 GHz incidents into the Rydberg atomic medium.
Disinfection of a waterborne pathogenic protozoa, Giardia lamblia, by the conventional chlorine method has been known to be difficult. An alternative disinfection has been carried out by using a UV -light illuminating opticalfiber photoreactor. Light intensity diffused from one piece of a clad-removed optical-fiber was $1- 1.5{\mu}Em^{-2}s^{-1}$. Disinfection capability in a UV -light irradiated optical-fiber reactor suspended with 0.01 g $TiO_{2}\;dm^{-3}$ was 1.4 times that in the same reactor without $TiO_{2}$ photocatalysts. To resolve the absorption and scattering of UV light by the particles themselves as well as the difficulty of recycling particles in the slurrytype reactor, $TiO_{2}$ which was obtained by a hydrothermal method, was immobilized on clad-removed optical fibers. Such pretreatment of fiber surface resulted in an excellent transparency, which enhanced the UV light to diffuse laterally from a fiber surface. Coating time of the prepared solution by the hydrothermal method was not effective after more than two times. Disinfection capability in the $TiO_{2}$-immobilized optical-fiber reactor was $83\%$ in 1 h at $40^{\circ}C$, which was slightly higher than $76\%$ at $22^{\circ}C$ and $68\%$ at $10^{\circ}C$. Disinfection capability at $22^{\circ}C$ increased from $74\%$ at an initial pH of 3.4, through $76\%$ at pH 6.5, to $87\%$ at an initial pH of 10. Oxygen supply with air-flow rate of 5 $cm^3\;min^{-1}$ did not seem to increase the disinfection capability with UV /immobilized $TiO_2$.
Poly(ο-hydroxyamide)s as polybenzoxazoles precursors were synthesized by polycondensation from 2,2'-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane and various bis-acids. And the polymers were modified to acid-sensitive polyamides by introducing tetrahydropyran in order to impart photosensitivity. A study of optical transmittance at 365 nm, according to the chemical structure of bis-acid, revealed that the polymer derived from 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid showed better optical transparency than those from other bis-acids. This tendency of optical transmittance could be explained by formation of charge transfer complex. In case of the polymer derived from 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid, the electron accepting characteristic of bis-acid is reduced by introduction of electron donating group, -O-. Thus, optical transmittance increased due to the diminished formation of intramolecular charge transfer complex. In addition, the optical transmittance increased with increasing the THP content in the polymer. This is attributed to the reduced intermolecular interaction by the loosening of the packing density of the polymer chain.
Novel polythiol materials of urethane lens series for plastic optical lens were synthesized from polyol materials via thioisouronium of thiourea with c-HCl in refluxing aqueous solution, in which polythiol material was carried out from hydrolysis of thioisouronium by ammonia water. Their structure properties were identified by EA, EI-MS, FT-IR, $^1H\;and\;^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopies and TGA. Their ophthalmic lenses as polythiourethane material were prepared by thermal curing to an injected glass mold using the evenly solutions of diisocyanates series (TDI, XDI, HDI or IPDI) with polythiols. Polythiourethane shows that the strong stretching mode for SH group of polythiol disappeared in FT-IR spectra after thermosetting polymerization. Thermal deformation starting temperature of ophthalmic lenses was determined by TMA. Ophthalmic lenses made from characteristic polythiol and diisocyanate series have transparency, colorless and good impact strength, in which thermal resistance and impact strength of ophthalmic lenses were influenced by diisocyanate series. Physical properties of ophthalmic lens have contrast thermal resistance with impact strength. The property of thermal resistance and impact strength for respective ophthalmic lenses was examined by TMA and drop ball test.
