  • The main objective of this paper is to investigate the potential utility of multisensor remotely sensed data for improved coastal wetland mapping. Five data fusion models, three algebraic models (Multiplicative (MT), Brovey (BT) and Wavelet transform (WT)) and two spectral domain models (Principals component transform (PCT) and Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS)) were implemented and tested over the multisensor data. The fused images were then compared based on visual and statistical approaches. The results show that the wavelet transform provides greater flexibility for combining optical data sets and has good potential for preserving the spatial and spectral content of the original images . However, this model yields poor information when combining optical and microwave data. Brovey transform is more reliable for fusing optical and microwave image data and yields improved information about different wetland features of the coastal zone.

  • Optimized geometrical structure, atomic charges, molecular electrostatic potential, nonlinear optical (NLO) effects and thermodynamic properties of the title compound N-(2,5-methylphenyl)salicylaldimine (I) have been investigated by using ab initio quantum chemical computational studies. Calculated results showed that the enol form of (I) is more stable than keto form. The solvent effect was investigated for obtained molecular energies, hardneses and the atomic charge distributions of (I). Natural bond orbital and frontier molecular orbital analysis of the title compound were also performed. The total molecular dipole moment (${\mu}$), linear polarizability (${\alpha}$), and first-order hyperpolarizability (${\beta}$) were calculated by B3LYP method with 6-31G(d), 6-31+G(d,p), 6-31++G(d,p), 6-311+G(d) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets to investigate the NLO properties of the compound (I). The standard thermodynamic functions were obtained for the title compound with the temperature ranging from 200 to 450 K.

  • Neutron cross section data on Dy-160, Dy-161, Dy-162, Dy-163 and Dy-164 were calculated and evaluated in the energy range of 1 keV to 20 MeV using a spherical optical model, statistical model and pre-equilibrium model. The energy dependent optical model potential parameters were obtained based on the recent experimental data. The width fluctuation correction in Hauser-Feshbach particle decay and the quantum mechanical approach in pre-equilibrium analysis were introduced and gave a better cross section calculation in EMPIRE-II. The total, elastic scattering and threshold reaction cross sections were evaluated and compared with the evaluated files. The model calculated (n, tot), (n, ${\gamma}$) and (n, p) cross sections were in good agreement with the experimental data in the measured energy range. The results will be applied to ENDF/B-VI for data improvement.

  • Unpolarized 1.047-GeV proton inelastic scatterings from the Ni isotopes $^{62}Ni$ and $^{64}Ni$ are analyzed phenomenologically employing an optical potential model and the first-order collective model in the relativistic Dirac coupled channel formalism. The Dirac equations are reduced to $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger-like$ second-order differential equations, and the effective central and spin-orbit optical potentials are analyzed by considering the mass-number dependence. The multistep excitation via the $2^+$ state is found to be important for the $4^+$ state excitation in the ground state rotational band for proton inelastic scatterings from the Ni isotopes. The calculated deformation parameters for the $2^+$ and the $4^+$ states of the ground state rotational band and for the first $3^-$ state are found to agree pretty well with those obtained from nonrelativistic calculations.

  • We propose portable equipment that monitors current and voltage of high-potential power transmission lines. In the equipment, a current and voltage sensor are attached to an insulator that supports a power transmission line: A clamped to the power line and the detected current signal is transmitted to the ground station by a wireless optical link using transmission line is detected by a high resistance element, zinc oxide (ZnO). That acts as a potential divider between the power line and ground. We make an experimental device for 66kV power line and demonstrate that it can monitor currents proposed equipment is small-sized, light, and inexpensive in comparison with the conventional CT (current transformer) and PT (potential transformer) since it does not require high potential insulators and magnetic cores, further, the equipment is easily installed owing to its small size and its simple structure.

  • We have observed the short-channel effect, narrow-channel effect and small-geometry effect in terms of a variation of the threshold voltage. For a short-channel effect the threshold voltage was largely determined by the DIBL effect which stimulates more carrier injection in the channel by reducing the potential barrier between the source and channel. The effect becomes more significant for a shorter-channel device. However, the potential, field and current density distributions in the channel along the transverse direction showed a better uniformity for shorter-channel devices under the same voltage conditions. The uniformity of the current density distribution near the drain on the potential minimum point becomes worse with increasing the drain voltage due to the enhanced DIBL effect. This means that considerations for channel-width effect should be given due to the variation of the channel distributions for short-channel devices. For CCDs which are always operated at a pinch-off state the channel uniformity thus becomes significant since they often use a device structure with a channel length of > 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a very high drain (or diffusion) voltage. • We have fabricated the diffractive optical head(DOH) for optical pick up, which one adaptable to a optical recoding information storage. DOH consists of a focusing grating coupler(FGC) and a solid immersion Jens(SIL). FGC is device that the light converge into a focus by surface lattice. FGC have been studied as a potential application of pick up head for the information storage. In this study, FGC was designed and fabricated to make focus near to possible diffraction limit. We also fabricated recording head combined with SIL. The focus was measured in the range of $1.1{\mu}m$ as near to possible diffraction limit in the FGC having a focusing length of $600{\mu}m$ and a lattice area of 500 * $500{\mu}m$.

  • We demonstrate an optical gate architecture using a single SOA to perform AND, OR and NOT logic functions. Simple reconfigurable all-optical logic operations are implemented using RZ modulated signals at 40 Gb/s. Contrast ratio and extinction ratio values have been analysed for the different types of logic gates. Maximum extinction ratio and contrast ratio achieved are 19dB and 17.2 dB respectively. Simple structure and potential for integration makes this architecture an interesting approach in photonic computing and optical signal processing.

  • Using tightly focused femtosecond laser pulses, we produce an optical waveguide and devices in transparent materials. This technique has the potential to generate not only channel waveguides, but also three-dimensional optical devices. In this paper, an optical splitter and U-grooves, which are used for fiber alignment, are simultaneously fabricated in a fused silica glass using near-IR femtosecond laser pulses. The fiber- aligned optical splitter has a low insertion loss, less than 4 dB, including an intrinsic splitting loss of 3 dB and excess loss due to the passive alignment of a single-mode fiber. Finally, we present an output field pattern, demonstrating that the splitting ratio of the optical splitter becomes approximately 1:1.

  • Recently, polymethyl methacrylate based plastic optical fibers (POFs) have attracted considerable attention as a potential medium for local area network (LAN) and home network applications. Since the POFs have very low optical loss at around 650mm, in particular, it becomes quite important to develop GHz transmitters operating at this wavelength for high bit rate optical transmission applications of the POFs. In this paper, we present generation of ${\geq}1.5 Gbps$ pseudo-random binary sequence optical signals by using a gain switched InGaA1P Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser with a high frequency filter, operating at 650mm, and the application of these signals to bandwidth measurement of POFs.
