Though a glass tens has outstanding optical performance, it has not been widely used because manufacturing process shows poor productivity and high cost. However, press-forming method of glass lens overcomes these disadvantages with mass production. When glass lens is produced by press-forming method using closed die, it is needed that the volume of glass lens preform is precisely measured in order to prevent incomplete products and to increase in life of die. The present. paper shows the shortcoming of forming process with closed die, and performs FEM simulation of forming process with open die in order to overcome this shortcoming. The design parameters of open die are selected on the basis of assembly with optical module and maintenance of optical performance. FEM simulation is carried out with selected parameter of open die and two basic preform. According to distribution of effective strain in glass lens, optical property of glass lens formed at each set of die and preform is compared.

To provide the clear images from the direct light on electrical board and display devices, anti glare treatment of display cover glass is needed. In this study, the effects of surface treatment temperature, concentration, and etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase on optical elements control such as gloss, haze of reflected light and transmittance, were investigated. Cover glasses were treated at different coating thickness and additive concentration. The optical properties were examined using spectrophotometer, gloss and haze meter. The surface morphology and roughness were measured by the optical microscope and Ra measuring instrument. The etching rate and surface morphologies were dramatically affected by the concentration of acid additive in the viscous gel because of re-crystallization of components in the etching solution, hydrogel formation and coagulant after coating on glass substrate. In our experimental range, cover glass which is surface-treated with various optical properties as well as the morphology uniformity was obtained; in particular, optical properties could be controlled by etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase and the concentration of additive. The gloss was depended on the surface roughness and it showed the linear relationship between optical transmittance and haze of reflected light, respectively.
Chalcogenide glasses have been investigated in their thermodynamic, structural, and optical properties for application in various opto-electronic devices. In this study, the $Sb_{20}Se_{80-x}Ge_x$ with x = 10, 15, 20, and 25 were selected to investigate the glass stability according to germanium ratios. The thermal, structural, and optical properties of these glasses were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-Vis-IR Spectrophotometry, respectively. The DSC results revealed that $Ge_{20}Sb_{20}Se_{60}$ composition showing the best glass stability theoretically results due to a lower glass transition activation energy of 230 kJ/mol and higher crystallization activation energy of 260 kJ/mol. The structural and optical analyses of annealed thin films were carried out. The XRD analysis reveals obvious results associated with glass stabilities. The values of slope U, derived from optical analysis, offered information on the atomic and electronic configuration in Urbach tails, associated with the glass stability.

In this research, the optimal grinding condition has been obtained by design of experiment (DOE) fur the development of aspheric lens for the 3 Mega Pixel, 2.5x optical zoom camera-phone module. Also, the tungsten carbide (WC) mold was processed by the method of ultra precision grinding under this optimal grinding condition. The influence of diamond-liked carbon (DLC) coating on form accuracy (PV) and surface roughness (Ra) of the mold was evaluated through measurements after DCL coating using ion plating on the ground mold. Also, aspheric glass lenses were molded, some before DLC coating of the mold and some after the DLC coating. The optical characteristics of each sample, molded by the different molds, were compared with each other.
In manufacturing optical fibers, the process starts with the glass fiber drawing from the heated and softened silica preform in the furnace, and the freshly drawn glass fiber is still at high temperature when it leaves the glass fiber drawing furnace. It is necessary to cool down the glass fiber to the ambient temperature before it then enters the fiber coating applicator, since the hot glass fiber is known to cause several technical difficulties in achieving high quality fiber coating. As the fiber drawing speed keeps increasing, a current manufacturing of optical fibers requires a dedicated cooling unit with helium gas injection. A series of three-dimensional flow and heat transfer computations are carried out to investigate the effectiveness of fiber cooling in the fiber cooling unit. The glass fiber cooling unit is simplified into the long cylindrical enclosure at which the hot glass fiber passes through at high speed, and the helium is being supplied through several injection slots of rectangular shape along the cooling unit. This study presents and discusses the effects of helium injection rates on the glass fiber cooling rates.

Laser printer, faximile and copy machine are a few examples of OA(office automation) system. In such a system, the reflecting mirror has been employed for transmitting a target image to optical device. Therefore, to develope a good quality of optical system, the quality control of optical mirror was required. In recent years, considerable efforts have been directed toward the development of automated optical glass inspection system because the inspection is eye-fatigue and monotonous job for humans to perform. In this paper, we propose a inspection system applying algorithm of image processing for detecting defects of optical glass such as pinhole, scratch. From the experiments, the proposed inspection system shows reliable results.

By adding La₂O₃ to optical multicomponent glass composition, after making mother glass and core fiber that enable to enlarge the infrared transmittance region, then surveyed the optical properties. Through thermal analysis of the glass abstained by melt-quenching after selecting stable basic composition on devitrification and replace SiO₂ by 4-12wt% La₂O₃. As La₂O₃ increases up to l2wt% transition temperature, refractive index, density, deformation temperature increased, whereas thermal expansion coefficient decreased. As a result of inspectig transmittance in UV/VIS/IR region, visable region indicated the decrease of transmittance by increasing the La₂O₃ and transmittance region was enlarged by increasing the La₂O₃ in IR region. Also, fabricate core fiber at 820℃ and severy the optical loss we could fact that La₂O₃ composition added 12wt% showed the minimum optical loss.

PbO contained multicomponent glass and fibers have been obtained by melting process and double crucible method. PbO containing glass is most promising for fabrication of high-numerical aperture optical fiber. In this study, main composition is $SiO_2$, PbO and glass composition mix component oxide such as $K_2O$, $Na_2O$, $B_2O_3$, $A1_2O_3$. Also, the optical, mechanical and structural properties of manufactured fibers by double crucible method are investigated.
Infrared radiation (IR) refers to the region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum where wavelengths range from about 700 nm to 1 mm. Any object with a temperature above absolute zero (0 K) radiates in the infrared region, and a material that transmits radiant energy in the range of 0.74 to 1.4 um is referred to as a near-infrared optical material. Germanate-based glass is attracting attention as a glass material for infrared optical lenses because of its simple manufacturing process. With the recent development of the glass molding press (GMP) process, thermal imaging cameras using oxide-based infrared lenses can be easily mass-produced, expanding their uses. To improve the mechanical and optical properties of commercial materials consisting of ternary systems, germanate-based heavy metal oxide glasses were prepared using a melt-cooling method. The fabricated samples were evaluated for thermal, structural, and optical properties using DSC, XRD, and XRF, respectively. To derive a composition with high glass stability for lens applications, ZnO and Sb2O3 were substituted at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mol%. The glass with 1 mol% added Sb2O3 was confirmed to have the optimal conditions, with an optical transmittance of 80 % or more, a glass transition temperature of 660 ℃, a refractive index of 1.810, and a Vickers hardness of 558. The possibility of its application as an alternative infrared lens material to existing commercial materials capable of GMP processing was confirmed.
The th ermal and optical properties of multicomponent oxide glass optical fiber by adding heavy metal oxide Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$(0-20wt%) were investigated. The fiber samples were made by the method of rod in tube. The optical loss of fiber was measured in 0.3-1.8.mu.m wavelength region. As Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ increased up to 20wt%, the transition and softening temperature of bulk glass were increased from 495.deg. C to 579.deg. C and from 548.deg. C to 641.deg. C, respectively. Whereas the thermal expansion coefficient was decreased from 102 to 79.1x10$^{-7}$ /.deg. C. The refractive index was increased from 1.621 to 1.665, and IR cut-off wavelength was enlarged from 4.64.mu.m to 6.1.mu.m. The optical loss of fiber was remarkably decreased in 1.146.mu.m-1.8.mu.m wavelength region.
