This paper is studied the high-repetition rate optical-pulse stream generation using optical loop mirror coupler. With the recent development of the ultrahigh-speed optical time division multiplexed system, hish-repetition rate optical-pulse stream generation is necessary. This is different from conventional approaches, which use fiber or integrated waveguide delay line circuits. The high-repetition-rate optical-pulse multiplication phenomenon occurs when the optical pulse's spectral width is greater than the transfer bandwidth of the coupler used. From the analysis, the output repetition rate can be controlled by using fiber couplers with different equivalent transfer bandwidths. The pulse separation spacing is controlled by number of cascaded coupler in optical loop mirror coupler scheme.
In this paper, a new measuring system is :proposed which can measure the fine 6-DOF displacement of rigid bodies. Its measurement principle is based on detection of laser beam reflected from a specially fabricated mirror that looks like a triangular pyramid having an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45$^{\circ}$ to its bottom surface. We call this mirror 3-facet mirror. The 3-facet mirror is mounted on the object whose 6-DOF displacement is to be measured. The measurement is operated by a laser-based optical system composed of a 3-facet mirror, a laser source, three position-sensitive detectors(PSD). In the sensor system, three PSDs are located at three corner points of a triangular formation, which is an equilateral triangular formation tying parallel to the reference plane. The sensitive areas of three PSDs are oriented toward the center point of the triangular formation. The object whose 6-DOF displacement is to be measured is situated at the center with the 3-facet mirror on its top surface. A laser beam is emitted from the laser source located at the upright position and vertically incident on the top of the 3-fatcet mirror. Since each reflective facet faces toward each PSD, the laser beam is reflected at the 3-facet mirror and splits into three sub-beams, each of which is reflected from the three facets and finally arrives at three PSDs, respectively. Since each PSD is a 2-dimensional sensor, we can acquire the information on the 6-DOF displacement of the 3-facet mirror. From this principle, we can get 6-DOF displacement of any object simply by mounting the 3-facet mirror on the object. In this paper, we model the relationship between the 6-DOF displacement of the object and the outputs of three PSDs. And, a series of simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed sensing system can be an effective means of obtaining 3-dimensional position and orientation of arbitrary objects.
We present a novel optical system for an augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD) with two virtual images at different conjugates by employing a confocal off-axis two-mirror and introducing the horopter circle. For a far virtual image with large asymmetrical aberrations, we initially obtain an off-axis two-mirror system corrected for these aberrations and compensated for the down angle by configuring its parameters to satisfy the confocal and Scheimpflug conditions, respectively. In addition, this system is designed to reduce the biocular parallax by matching Petzval surface into the longitudinal horopter circle in a near virtual image. This design approach enables us to easily balance the residual aberrations and biocular parallax when configuring the optical system with two different conjugates, which results in an AR HUD available for near and far virtual images together.

We present the optical design of Linear Astigmatism Free - Three Mirror System (LAF-TMS) D200 for UVO-Multiband Polarizing Imager System (UVOMPIS). LAF-TMS D200 is the off-axis wide-field telescope with EPD = 200 mm, F/2, and Field of View (FoV) = 2° × 4°. Its optical mirrors are optimized to freeform surfaces for high-quality optical performance over a wide FoV. The proposed mirror holder consists of four aluminum optomechanical modules that have applied for LAF-TMS D150 which is a prototype of the LAF-TMS system. It can accurately mount mirrors and also can sustain from vibration environments. As a feasibility study, quasi-static, modal, harmonic, and random vibration analyses have been performed to LAF-TMS D150 optomechanical structure under the qualification level of the Soyuz-2/Fregat launch system. We evaluate the vibration analysis results in terms of von Mises stress and Margin of Safety.
The effects of a dielectric multilayer mirror on the efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) were investigated by using optical simulation. Adoption of a dielectric mirror consisting of alternating SiN and $SiO_2$ layers narrowed the emission spectrum due to the microcavity effect, and increased the outcoupling efficiency by a few percent. The layer thicknesses of the dielectric mirror were adjusted to change the wavelength of the resonance mode, which may be used to increase the color purity.
Silicon based micro mirror array is a highly efficient component for use in optical applications such as adaptive optical systems and optical correlators. A micro mirror array designed, fabricated and tested here is consisted of $5{\times}5$ single layer polysilicon, electrostatically driven actuators. In this paper, deflection characteristics and pull-in behavior of the actuators for analog control was studied and particularly, the influence of the residual stress in flexure beams for the restorative force of actuators was considered. The springs are modeled as a residual stress-free spring and a spring with residual stress. In calculation, a mirror with the residual stress-free springs has 30.3N/m spring constant and 31.1V pull-in voltage. On the other hand, a mirror with the stressed springs has 23.6N/m and 27.4V respectively. The experimental result, which is 20.5N/m and 25.5V, shows that the stressed springs ore well modeled.
Not only the magnitude of the mirror surface error, the pattern matters as it produces certain aberrations. In particular, the surface error of the freeform mirrors, which are optimized to eliminate specific aberrations, might show much higher sensitivity in optical performance. Therefore, we analyze the mirror surface error with Zernike polynomials with the goal of generating a realistic error surface. We investigate the surface error of the freeform mirror fabricated by diamond turning machine to analyze the realistic tendency of the error. The surface error with 0.22 ㎛ root-mean-square value is fitted to the Zernike terms using the incremental fitting method, which increases the number of the fitting coefficients through steps. Furthermore, optical performance via surface error pattern based on Zernike terms is studied to see the influences of each term. With this study, realistic error surface generation may allow higher accuracy not only for the feasibility test but also for all tests and predictions using optical simulations.

A prototype of the GMT FSM has been developed to acquire and to enhance the key technology - mirror fabrication and tip-tilt actuation. The ellipsoidal off-axis mirror has been designed, analyzed, and fabricated from light-weighting to grinding, polishing, and figuring of the mirror surface. The mirror was tested by using an interferometer together with CGHs, which revealed the surface error of 13.7 nm rms in the diameter of 1030 mm. The SCOTS test was employed to independently validate the test results. It measured the surface error to be 17.4 nm rms in the diameter of 1010 mm. Both tests show the optical surface of the FSMP mirror within the required value of 20 nm rms surface error.
Optical payloads for earth-observation satellites become bigger as the required resolution becomes finer. For example, the diameter of the primary mirror of IKONOS, which has ground sampling distances of 1m/4m in panchromatic/multi spectral bands, is about 700mm. As the size of optical payload becomes bigger, the light-weighting of the mirrors becomes more significant. This paper presents the FEM results of the following four mirror types of 300 m diameter under gravity release and temperature changes: flat back mirror, single arch mirror, double arch mirror, and honeycomb sandwich mirror. Furthermore, this paper extends the FEM results to larger mirrors up to the diameter of 1m based on a general scaling law and Valenete\`s equation.
