Gold-sapphire Plasmonic Nanostructures for Coherent Extreme-ultraviolet Pulse Generation

  • Plasmonic high-order harmonic generation (HHG) is used in nanoscale optical applications because it can help in realizing a compact coherent ultrashort pulse generator on the nanoscale, using plasmonic field enhancement. The plasmonic amplification of nanostructures induces nonlinear optical phenomena such as second-order harmonic generation, third-order harmonic generation, frequency mixing, and HHG. This amplification also causes damage to the structure itself. In this study, the plasmonic amplification according to the design of a metal-coated sapphire conical structure is theoretically calculated, and we analyze the effects of this optical amplification on HHG and damage to the sample.

세슘 원자 증기 기반 광 증폭기의 온도와 빔 크기에 따른 광 증폭 특성 연구 (Study of the Variation of Optical Amplification Characteristics with Incident Beam Size and Temperature of a Cesium-vapor-based Optical Amplifier)

  • 버퍼가스와 세슘 증기가 혼합된 광 증폭 시스템을 구성하고 세슘 용기의 온도 및 빔 직경의 변화에 따른 광 증폭 특성을 조사하였다. 광 증폭인자 및 추출 효율 등 광 증폭기 특성이 세슘 용기의 온도 및 빔 직경에 따라 크게 변하는 것을 확인하였는데, 90 ℃의 세슘 용기온도에서 200 ㎛ 직경을 가진 펌프(500 mW) 및 씨앗 광(10 mW)이 입사하였을 때 최대 56%의 광 추출효율을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, 전산 모사를 통하여 계산한 광 증폭 특성이 실험으로부터 얻은 결과와 합리적으로 일치하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This paper is to develop an optical ruer displacement sensor for monitoring high speed spindle. Proper magnitude of optical power as well as amplification of output signal are necessary to improve sensitivity of the sensor. In this paper, to meet the need of improvement of the sensor resolution, we choose proper optical power and amplification level through speculating on optical power of a laser diode.

장거리 해저 무중계 전송기술 연구 (Consideration for the Repeaterless Transmission in Long Distance Optical Submarine Cable System)

  • 수백Km 정도의 섬과 섬 섬과 내륙을 해저광케이블로 연결하는 경우 일반 국가간의 500Km이상의 장거리의 중계기 증폭 시스템과 달리 송신단 및 수신단, 광케이블에 EDFA 기술을 적용하여 무중계 시스템을 설계할 수 있다. 중계기가 없음으로 해서 중계기에 공급하는 전력시스템, 동튜브가 내장된 해저케이블, 중계 증폭시 필요한 여기 파장공급용 Laser Diode등이 필요가 없어 고신뢰성 및 경제적인 시스템을 구성 할 수 있다. 그러나 중계 증폭을 하지 않는 만큼 저손실의 광케이블을 사용하여야 한다. 이러한 광증폭 제약 요소들을 고려하여 장거리 무중계 시스템을 고찰 하였다.

  • 비선형광학 결정을 이용한 optical parametric generation(OPG)은 coherent tunable radiation을 얻는 방법으로 매우 효과적이다. Beta barium borate(BBO) 결정은 비선형성이 클 뿐만 아니라 광손상문턱이 높고 자외선에서부터 근 적외선영역까지(2 -0.2$mu extrm{m}$) 투명하여 optical parametric oscillation(OPO)이나 OPG/OPA(optical parametric generation/amplification)에 많이 활용되고 있다.[1-2] 분광학적 연구와 여러 가지 응용 측면에서 넓은 영역의 파장가변이 손쉽고 높은 에너지를 갖는 pico 초coherent source는 중요하며, 이는 결정의 비선형성을 이용하여 공진기를 구성하지 않고서도 OPG/OPA를 통하여 실현 가능하다.   • The optical fibers are an interesting medium for effective tunable optical frequency conversion in the spectral range of UV, Visible, and near-IR through the nonlinear processes. A number of papers for developing the wideband and flat-gain amplifier for the WDM system applications through the combination of EDFA or thulium-doped fluoride fiber amplifier and Raman amplifier, are reported$^{(1)}$ . Even though a variety of papers related to Raman amplifications are published, the amplification with the feedback of the residual pump is not investigated yet. Accordingly, in this paper, we report the characteristics of forward Raman amplification by the simple and double-pass fiber Raman configuration through the feedback of residual pump beam. (omitted)

  • 평판 도파로에서 pump가 체렌코프 복사(Cerenkov radiation)의 파동인 경우, pump, signal, 그리고 idler 사이의 매개적 상호작용에 의한 signal의 증폭현상을 해석하였다. 결합모드 이론을 사용하여 pump의 고갈(depletion)을 무시할 수 있는 경우, 수치적 계산으로 쉽게 풀 수 있는 1차 결합모드 미분방정식을 유도하였다. 이 미분방정식의 근사해와 수치적 계산 예를 통해서 signal이 매개적으로 증폭될 수 있음을 보였다.

Single Logarithmic Amplification and Deep Learning-based Fixed-threshold On-off Keying Detection for Free-space Optical Communication

  • This paper proposes single logarithmic amplification (single-LA) and deep learning (DL)-based fixed-threshold on-off keying (OOK) detection for free-space optical (FSO) communication. Multilevel LAs (MLAs) can be used to mitigate intensity fluctuations in the received OOK signal by their nonlinear gain characteristics; however, it is ineffective in the case of high scintillation, owing to degradation of the OOK signal's extinction ratio. Therefore, a DL technique is applied to realize effective scintillation compensation in single-LA applications. Fully connected (FC) networks and fully connected neural networks (FCNN), which have nonlinear modeling characteristics, are deployed in this work. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through simulations under various scintillation effects. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional adaptive-threshold-decision, single-LA-based, MLA-based, FC-based, and FCNN-based OOK detection techniques.

50 cm of Zirconia, Bismuth and Silica Erbium-doped Fibers for Double-pass Amplification with a Broadband Mirror

  • Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) have saturated the technological market but are still widely used in high-speed and long-distance communication systems. To overcome EDFA saturation and limitations, its erbium-doped fiber is co-doped with other materials such as zirconia and bismuth. This article demonstrates and compares the performance using three different fibers as the gain medium for zirconia-erbium-doped fibers (Zr-EDF), bismuth-erbium-doped fibers (Bi-EDF), and commercial silica-erbium-doped fibers (Si- EDF). The optical amplifier was configured with a double-pass amplification system, with a broadband mirror at the end of its configuration to allow double-pass operation in the system. The important parameters in amplifiers such as optical properties, optical amplification and noise values were also examined and discussed. All three fibers were 0.5 m long and entered with different input signals: 30 dBm for low input and 10 dBm for high input. Zr-EDF turned out to be the most relevant optical amplifier as it had the highest optical gain, longest transmission distance, highest average flatness gain with minimal jitter, and relevant noise figures suitable for the latest communication technology.

  • The inertial fusion research at ILE, Osaka moves to the fast ignition scheme with using PW laser system to achieve hot core plasma of keV-temperature by heating additionally the dense plasma imploded by the multi-beam Gekko laser system.
