Objectives : The aim of this study is to report the effect of Gagamtongchung-san and Korean medicine on the treatment of nummular eczema. Methods : A 52-year-old male had suffered from nummular eczema in forearm, dorsum manus and fossa cubitalis. We treated him with herbal medicine, acupuncture and herbal external medicine. In order to evaluate the results of these treatments, we observed pruritus and heat sensation of the patients and took photographs of the lesions. Results : After treatment, the nummular eczema lesions of patient was remarkably disappeared, NRS of pruritus and heat sensation decreased from 10 to under 2 and DLQI score changed from 28 to 9. Conclusions : According to the result, Gagamtongchung-san and Korean medicine can be effective for the treatment of nummular eczema and the improvement of quality-of-life.

Objective : The aim of this study is to report the effect of Hani-maehwa laser(fractional mode) treatment on acne scar. Methods : The patient with atrophic facial acne scars was treated with 5 sessions of laser therapy at 4-week intervals. The therapeutic response to treatment was assessed at 3 months after last laser session. The treatment effect was evaluated by standardized photography, anti aging, skin brightness and flatness. That was measured by micro fluorescence measurement camera(ECO SKIN, Cuvitz Inc.) in 16(left zygoma) and 26(right zygoma) spot. And side effects were also checked. Results : Atrophic facial acne scars have improved markedly. Anti aging, skin brightness and flatness were improved. Especially anti aging and flatness were noticeably improved. Adverse effects were not reported.Conclusions : Korean medicine cautery method applies to high level laser(CO₂ Hani-maehwa laser). These are different designs but same principle. It can be considered that laser therapy is effective method for treating acne scars.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate students' satisfaction on participation learning using role-play in clerkship of Oriental Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology department. Methods : In 2012, 93 sixth grade students undergoing Oriental Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology clerkship were included in this study. The students listened to a lecture on nasal disease. And three days later, Students were randomly divided into two groups, doctor or patient, and performed role-play in their role. After role- play, they completed the questionnaire, the questionnaire was composed of 16 items. Results : Mean of total satisfaction score was 4.14. Mean of interest and appropriacy score was 4.48, mean of usefulness satisfaction was 3.93. There was no significant difference in mean scores by the role groups. Students evaluated the role-play in clerkship positively. Conclusions : Students evaluated the role-play that it was interesting and useful educational tool in clerkship. It is necessary to undergo further trials and complement programs to upgrade the quality of Oriental medical clerkship.

Objectives : The purpose of this report is to know the effect of Younkyopaedok-san(連翹敗毒散), Sammulhwanggum-tang(三物黃芩湯) on eczema worsened by drug eruption and Gungguigyoae-tang(芎歸膠艾湯) on chronic eczema. Methods : We experienced one case of eczema treated with Younkyopaedok-san, Sammulhwanggum-tang and Gungguigyoae-tang. We used visual analogue scale(VAS). Results : After the treatment the grade of VAS was decreased and clinical symptoms were gradually disappeared. Conclusion : Younkyopaedok-san, Sammulhwanggum-tang and Gungguigyoae-tang had improved the signs and symptoms of eczema. 1. Younkyopaedok-san and Sammulhwanggum-tang were effective on the treatment of inflammatory eczema. 2. Gungguigyoae-tang was effective on the treatment of chronic eczema.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the trend of Tranditional Chinese Medicine for Otitis Media with Effusion(OME) in Chinese journals. Methods : Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) and Wanfang med online were used to search Chinese studies which were published from January, 2010 to April, 2020. Results : Among Chinese studies, Exterior-releasing medicinal(解表藥) and Heat-clearing medicinal(淸熱藥) were the most frequently used. The herbs which used the most frequently are Bupleuri Radix(柴胡), Acori Graminei Rhizoma(石菖蒲). All of studies have reported that Tranditional Chinese Medicine is effective for Otitis Media with Effusion. Conclusions : In analysis of selected studies, Tranditional Chinese Medicine is more effective than Western Medicine Treatments. Recurrence rates and side effects of OME can be reduced by cotreatment of Tranditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Treatments.

Objectives : Allergic rhinitis is highly increased in these days. We aimed to investigate therapeutic effect ofShinchulsanby observing changes in blood cells and the protein expression level of IL-4 in spleen of Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats with allergic rhinitis.Methods : Fifteen SD rats were divided into three groups: normal, control, and sample group. Allergic rhinitis was induced in the control and sample group by intraperitional and intranasal sensitization with 0.1% and 0.4% Ovalbumin solution. ThenShinchulsanwas orally administered only to the sample group for 28 days, while the rats in the control group was given normal saline.Results : 1.Shinchulsanshowed significantly decreased eosinophil level on the serum of the rat model.2.Shinchulsanshowed significantly decreased IgE level on the serum of the rat model.3.Shinchulsanshowed significantly decreased the protein expression levels of IL-4 in spleen of the rat model.4.Shinchulsanhad no hepatoxicity, according to AST and ALT on the serum.Conclusion : According to the above results, it is considered thatShinchulsanis helpful in treatment of allergic rhinitis.

Objective : The purpose of this study is research on three cases of recurrence facial palsy with sequelae. Method : The authors observed patients by the House-Brackmann grade system and by the Scale of Peitersen for operated acupuncture treatment, herbal treatment and herbal acupuncture. Result : After the treatment, the House-Brackmann grades were decreased in two cases of three and the Scale of Peitersen grades were decreased in two cases of three. Conclusion : These result suggest that early admission with Korean medicine treatment could be more effective in recovery of recurrent peripheral facial nerve palsy with sequelae.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the efficacy of using oriental medical treatment(herb-medicine, acupuncture) with Melonix Calyx Vomiting Therapy for atypical facial pain. Methods : We experienced two cases of atypical facial pain treated with oriental medical treatment(herb-medicine, acupuncture) and Melonix Calyx Vomiting Therapy(MCVT). MCVT is a traditional treatment, which induces vomiting by eating Melonix Calyx powder with water. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Pain Rating Scale(PRS). Result : After using MCVT with oriental medical treatment, VAS, PRS and clinical symptoms of 2 patients were improved remarkably. Conclusion : This study suggests that using MCVT with oriental medical treatment is effective on atypical facial pain.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of Korean medical treatments on Anal diseases and skin disorder around anal. Methods : Based on KCI, OASIS, NDSL, KISS with the keyword 'Anal', 'Hemorrhoid', 'Ani', 'Anal fistula', 'incontinence', 'anal prolapse', 'anal fissure'. published in 2000-2018.11.10., total 9 studies have been found and analyzed. Results : Among 9 studies, 15 cases were selected. Acupuncture, herb medicine, phamacopuncture, moxibustion, fumigation therapy and habit correction were used as treatment for Anal disease. All of research which selected have reported that the Korean medical treatment was effective. Conclusions : According to the results, Korean medical treatments can be effective treatment for anal diseases. Based of this result, studies which is multifocal will be needed steadily.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of allergic rhinitis related articles that have been published in the Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology & Dermatology(JKOOD). Method : We studied 32 articles of allergic rhinitis published in JKOOD from 1988 to 2018. 24 articles are classified into two categories; treatment-related article and diagnosis-related article which include pattern identification. And we reviewed the other 8 articles briefly in discussion. Results : 16 treatment articles are classified into two categories; 13 case reports and 3 retrospective observation studies. In case reports, the studies are classified into three categories; 3 acupuncture group, 3 herbal medicine group or 7 herbal medicine with other parallel treatments group. Conclusions : Further studies are needed on allergic rhinitis including treatment, alternative medicine and methods of evaluation in order to develop a level of evidence.
