  • Qualification includes all activities to demonstrate that a product meets and exceeds the reliability goals. Manufacturers need to spend time and resources for the qualification processes under the pressure of reducing time to market, as well as offering a competitive price. Failure to qualify a product could result in economic loss such as warranty and recall claims and the manufacturer could lose the reputation in the market. In order to provide valid and reliable qualification results, manufacturers are required to make extra effort based on the operational and environmental characteristics of the product. This paper discusses optimal interval censoring design for reliability prediction of electronic packages under limited time and resources. This design should provide more accurate assessment of package capability and thus deliver better reliability prediction.

  • This paper presents the design of a smart A/D conversion interface used for measuring the load of a truck. Since the load-cell sensor to be used is very sensitive for weight variation, the interface board must have the low-drift and the A/D conversion for accuracy. A new integrator and comparator has been developed to reduce the offset voltage and the drift current of operational amplifiers and has been adapted into the interface board. Also, a software algorithm has been developed to obtain the stable and accrurate A/D conversion. This software includes a RS-485 communication program to control the interface, which gives a capability of backing-up the calibration data and transferring control data. The test and evaluation of the designed interface has been shown as having the better performance compared to the other types of existing weighing systems and sensor instruments.

  • In this paper a high efficiency soft switching boost converter is proposed for photovoltaic system. Using some resonant components, the circuit can be achieved the soft switching capability. Each of the switches in the proposed circuit performs ZV (Zero Voltage) or ZC (Zero Current) switching. Thus, the high efficiency characteristic can also be obtained, and then the size of the total system can be reduced. The operational modes of the verifying the effectiveness of the proposed circuit. As a matter of course, we will present the simulation results in this paper.

Subsystem Synthesis Methods with Independent Coordinates for Real-Time Multibody Dynamics

  • For real time dynamic simulation, two different subsystem synthesis methods with independent generalized coordinates have been developed and compared. In each formulation, the subsystem equations of motion are generated in terms of independent generalized coordinates. The first formulation is based on the relative Cartesian coordinates with respect to moving subsystem base body. The second formulation is based on the relative joint coordinates using recursive formulation. Computational efficiency of the formulations has been compared theoretically by the arithmetic operational counts. In order to verify real-time capability of the formulations, bump run simulations of a quarter car model with SLA suspension subsystem have been carried out to measure the actual CPU time.

  • Now that the e-commerce users are explosively increasing, there is always followed by a sharp increase in load from the e-commerce system and the heavy traffic on the network, where leads to the delayed service for the client's request. The natural consequences contain decreasing customer satisfaction and weakening the business's competitive position in markets. Therefore, we'll need to study the e-commerce system in due consideration of the operational efficiency and response speed. This study includes a design of e-commerce system, with a hierarchical structure based on the local server, which has the capability of caching necessary to distribute the system load, makes a proposal concerning a split web-cache algorithm devoted to the local web server to finally give an analysis of the performance through the appropriate trial.

  • The DGPS is used to improve the accuracy of the GPS by determining the positioning error data known locatio and subsequently transmitting the determined error, or corrective factors, to users of the GPS operating in the same geographical area. The accuracy of the DGPS available to real0time users is published in the Federal Radio-Navigation Plan to be better than 10 meters, although users often experience accuracies of better than 3 meters. USA recently decided to expand the marine DGPS service for land applications and initiated the Nationwide DGPS chain. Korea is processing for improving the marine DGPS. We have not achieved Full Operational Capability. But after announcing FOC, we have to begin expansion of DGPS into land. This paper investigate the availability of marine DGPS in land. The results will provide a basic guide for estimation of a propagation loss of the marine DGPS frequency in land.

  • A real time multibody vehicle dynamics model has been developed and implemented using a subsystem synthesis method based on recursive formulation. To verify real time simulation capability the developed model has been applied to HMMWV(High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) with steering system. For the kinematically driven steering system, the coupled front suspension-steering subsystem can be decoupled into two SLA suspension subsystems, which improves the efficiency of simulation. To investigate theoretical efficiency, operational counting method has been also employed to compare the proposed model with the conventional recursive dynamics model. Various simulations such as unsymmetric bump run, step steering(J-turn) and sine steering input test have been carried out to verify the real time feasibility of the proposed model.

  • This paper proposes an 18-step back-to-back (BTB) voltage source converter using four sets of 3-Level converter modules with auxiliary circuits to increase the number of steps. The proposed BTB voltage source converter has the independent control capability of active power and reactive power at the interconnected ac system. The operational feasibility of the proposed BTB converter was verified through many simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. The feasibility of hardware implementation was verified through experimental results with a scaled hardware prototype. The proposed BTB converter could be widely applied for interconnecting the renewable energy source to the power grid.

  • Automatic Transfer Crane is needed for automation of container terminal. It requires the control capability of exact position for loading/unloading job in yard. But it has the limitation of improvement because it has the operational environmental and its structural problems. It has the positioning errors caused by the deformation of rail, yawing motion of crane, wear of wheel, sliding motion between wheel and rail and so on. This study shows the calibration method of crane position by using the primitivity sensor and calibrating plate fixed on the ground.

  • The sub-zero cold is a major environmental consideration for the operational readiness of FCEVs because fuel cells produce water and utilize wet air with varying water content to generate electricity. Typical fuel cells thus have a fatal flaw in freezing conditions at startup. This drawback becomes more serious with the outsourced fuel cell that is entirely water-based for its internal humidification. In this background, the HMC's self-designed fuel cell was developed as an alternative and was employed in the Tucson-based FCEV in 2006 demonstrating its good cold-startup characteristics. The cold-startup capacity of the vehicle was validated through tests in the cold chamber and on the road, resulting in 50% stack power achieved in 250 seconds at $-15^{\circ}C$.
