Evaluation of a Waterless, Scrubless Chlorhexidine Gluconate/Ethanol Surgical Scrub and Povidone-Iodine for Antimicrobial Efficacy (물과 솔 없이 사용하는 외과적 손 소독제 Chlorhexidine/Ethanol 혼합제와 Povidone-iodine의 소독 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare 1% chlorhexidine-gluconate/61% ethanol (CHG/Ethanol) emollient and 7.5% povidone-iodine (PVI) scrub for antimicrobial, residual effect, and skin condition. Method: CHG/Ethanol emollient hand hygiene was performed waterless, and brushless by operating doctors and nurses (N=20). PVI hand washing was performed with water and a brush (N=20) for 5 min. The subjects were asked to press their left hand in hand-shaped agar before a surgical scrub, immediately after a surgical scrub and after the operation. The amount of isolated microorganisms were calculated by counting the number of divided areas($1{\times}1cm$, 160 cell) which were culture positive in the hand culture plate. The skin condition was evaluated. Result: The antimicrobial count of CHG/Ethanol emollient and PVI immediately post surgical scrub was 0.0 vs. 4.1 (p>.05), and after the operation was 0.1 vs. 37.8 (p>.05)respectively. The Residual effect of CHG/Ethanol emollient immediately post surgical scrub and after the operation were 0.0 vs. 0.1 (p>.05), and PVI were 4.1 vs. 37.8 (p>.05)respectively. The skin condition and satisfaction of CHG/Ethanol emollient was higher than PVI (p<.05). Conclusion: The antimicrobial effect between CHG/Ethanol emollient and PVI were the same. Considering skin condition, satisfaction and allergic reaction CHG/Ethanol emollient for surgical scrub is recommended in Korea.

A Continuous Conduction mode/Critical Conduction Mode Active Power Factor Correction Circuit with Input Voltage Sensor-less Control (입력전압을 감지하지 않는 전류연속/임계동작모드 Active Power Factor Correction Circuit)

  • An active power factor correction (PFC) circuit is presented which employs a newly proposed input voltage sensor-less control technique operated in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and critical conduction mode (CRM). The conventional PFC circuit with input voltage sensor-less control technique degrades the power factor (PF) under the light load condition due to DCM operation. In the proposed PFC circuit, the switching frequency is basically 70KHz in CCM operation. In light load condition, however, the PFC circuit operates in CRM and the switching frequency is increased up to 200KHz. So CCM/CRM operation of the PFC circuit alleviates the decreasing of the PF in light load condition. The proposed PFC controller IC has been implemented in a $0.35{\mu}m$ BCDMOS process and a 240W PFC prototype is built. Experimental results shows the PF of the proposed PFC circuit is improved up to 10% from the one employing the conventional CCM/DCM dual mode control technique. Also, the PF is improved up to 4% in the light load condition of the IEC 61000-3-2 Class D specifications.

A Study on Trim Variation to Reduce the Required Power of 11,000TEU Container Ship in Operation Condition (운항조건에서 11,000TEU 컨테이너선의 소요마력 저감을 위한 트림변화 연구)

  • In this paper, the effect of trim variation on the required power of 11,000TEU container ship was investigated under conditions considering the actual operation speed and draft. For each draft condition, the effective power (PE) and delivered power (PD) trends were investigated with changes in trim and ship speed. At this time, the displacement volume was fixed same as the value of the even trim condition and the both sinkage at the fore and after perpendicular are confirmed. The test ship speeds were determined by considering the operating speed. Both numerical and experimental methods were used to analyze the effects of trim variation. Numerical analysis results were used for evaluating the resistance performance, and the self-propulsion performance was estimated using experimental data obtained from model test.

The Optimal Operation on Auxiliary Spillway to Minimize the Flood Damage in Downstream River with Various Outflow Conditions (하류하천의 영향 최소화를 위한 보조 여수로 최적 활용방안 검토)

  • Recently, as the occurrence frequency of sudden floods due to climate change increased and the aging of the existing spillway, it is necessary to establish a plan to utilize an auxiliary spillway to minimize the flood damage of downstream rivers. Most studies have been conducted on the review of flow characteristics according to the operation of auxiliary spillway through the hydraulic experiments and numerical modeling. However, the studies on examination of flood damage in the downstream rivers and the stability of the revetment according to the operation of the auxiliary spillway were relatively insufficient in the literature. In this study, the stability of the revetment on the downstream river according to the outflow conditions of the existing and auxiliary spillway was examined by using 3D numerical model, FLOW-3D. The velocity, water surface elevation and shear stress results of FLOW-3D were compared with the permissible velocity and shear stress of design criteria. It was assumed the sluice gate was fully opened. As a result of numerical simulations of various auxiliary spillway operations during flood season, the single operation of the auxiliary spillway showed the reduction effect of maximum velocity and the water surface elevation compared with the single operation of the existing spillway. The stability of the revetment on downstream was satisfied under the condition of outflow less than 45% of the design flood discharge. However, the potential overtopping damage was confirmed in the case of exceeding the 45% of the design flood discharge. Therefore, the simultaneous operation with the existing spillway was important to ensure the stability on design flood discharge condition. As a result of examining the allocation ratio and the total allowable outflow, the reduction effect of maximum velocity was confirmed on the condition, where the amount of outflow on auxiliary spillway was more than that on existing spillway. It is because the flow of downstream rivers was concentrated in the center due to the outflow of existing spillway. The permissible velocity and shear stress were satisfied under the condition of less than 77% of the design flood discharge with simultaneous operation. It was found that the flood damage of downstream rivers can be minimized by setting the amount allocated to the auxiliary spillway to be larger than the amount allocated to the existing spillway for the total outflow with simultaneous operation condition. However, this study only reviewed the flow characteristics around the revetment according to the outflow of spillway under the full opening of the sluice gate condition. Therefore, the various sluice opening conditions and outflow scenarios will be asked to derive more efficient utilization of the auxiliary spillway in th future.

Determinationof Optimal Cutting Condition for High Quality Cutting Surface (표면품질 향상을 위한 레이저 절단조건)

  • The quality of cutting surface such as surface roughness, heat affected zone, serf width can be improved by controlling the parameters of cuting process. These parameters includes cutting velocity, laser beam power, material depth and assistant gas. Thermodynamic analysis and systematical experiments are attempted to pedict and determine the optimal cutting condition. There exists the optimal cutting condition to ensure high quality surface. Under this operation, the minimum surface roughness of the mild steel, the stainless steel and the titanium becomes 3.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ 13${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ respectively.

선삭공정용 데이터베이스 운용기술의 개발

  • The information with regard to the working rance of lathe, cutting tool, cutting condition is managed as detabase system for turning operation. Date with regard to the working range of lathe, cutting tool, cutting condition are stroed by the DBMS(Data Base Management System) and can be added, modified, deleted and retrieved. Data stored in database system are searched to select the most proper cutting tool and cutting condition with the input data fed from the design stage. The system developed in this work is operated by the pull down menu on the IBM PC/AT personal computer, or compatible series.

Optimal Path Planning of a Tractor-implement for Precision Farming (정밀농업을 위한 트랙터-작업기의 최적 경로계획)

  • Path planning for field operation of agricultural machinery is an indispensible part for precision farming or autonomous field operation. In this study, two algorithms (I, II) of generating a time-based shortest operation path were suggested to plan an optimal operation of an agricultural tractor-implement in a rectangular shaped field. The algorithms were based on modification of a minimum spanning tree algorithm, and applied for tractor-implement operations. the generated path was consisted of round operation and returning operation sections. The number of round operation was determined from the condition that a tractor can turn smoothly at headlands. The performance of the algorithms was evaluated by the calculation number for path generation and the total path length generated. Their stability was affected by the number of returning operation, but the algorithm II was considered to be more stable. In addition, the performances of the developed algorithms were compared with those of the conventional field operations at selected field sizes and shapes. The results showed that the algorithms could reduce field operation time greatly. For a 100m$\times$40m field, the reduced path length was 78m. The study also included an user interface program for implementing the algorithms and generating GPS coordinates that could be used in GIS softwares for precision farming.

  • The Tension Leveller of Cold Rolling Mill In POSCO performs levelling the strip in high speed line. But minor variations in operating condition of driving machines such as motor, gear box, and support bearings, a small gap-variation of supporter and strip slip by poor roll revolutions can cause serious problems in the quality of strip. In this study, firstly, A condition monitoring standard for each sensor is made through with the detail analysis of vibration and strip slip. Secondly, An automatic monitoring and diagnosing system was developed to monitor the condition of Tension Leveller, and diagnose the cause of abnormal condition. Finally, A diagnosing algorithm for abnormal condition and man-machine interface (MMI) for easy operation are developed.

  • The emergency diesel generator(EDG) of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear reactor on Station Black Out(SBO) condition. The operation reliability of onsite emergency diesel generator should be ensured by a conditioning monitoring system designed to monitor and analysis the condition of diesel generator. For this purpose, we have developing the technologies of condition monitoring for the wolsong unit 3&4 standby diesel generator including diesel engine performance. In this paper, technologies of condition monitoring for the wolsong standby diesel generator are described about three step. First is for selection of operating parameter for monitoring. Second is for technologies of online condition monitoring, Third is for monitoring of engine performance.

Control Effect of Temperature and Humidity by Ventilation Fan Operation Methods in Wintering Honey Bee House (월동용 양봉사의 환기팬 작동방식에 따른 온 ${\cdot}$ 습도 조절효과)

  • This study was conducted to establish the ventilation fan operation schedule to be able to provide satisfactory environment for colonies in thc wintering honey bee house. The simulation and practical measuring test were conducted to verify the applicability of an existing simulation program to thc calculation of inside thermal environment condition of the house, and the environment control performance was compared between the two types of fan operation schedule to find the proper schedule. It was concluded that the program could be used to design thc materials of the enclosure and the fan operation schedule and decide the number of accommodation hives. Inside temperature of bee house controlled by the fan operation schedule B was lower than the schedule A under the similar high outside temperature condition. In the presence of the high outside temperature condition, inside air temperature of bee house could be decreased by changing fan operation schedule A to schedule B. The humidity variation in bee house controlled by the tan operation of schedule B was smaller than that by schedule A. These results indicated that the schedule B was superior in the aspect of the environment control performance.
