A Basic Study on Mode of Operation for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship

  • As the development of the 4th industiral revolution in the maritime industry has progressed, the technical development of autonomous ships, and the development of international regulations have been accelerated. In particular, the IMO Maritime Safety Committee(MSC) has established a road-map for the development of the non-mandatory goal-based MASS instrument(MASS Code) and started developing a non-mandatory MASS Code at MSC 105th meeting. Many countries are actively participating in the Correspondence Group on the development of MASS Code, and the development of detailed requirements for MASS functions in the MASS Code is underway. Especially, the concept of "Mode of Operation" for MASS functions was mentioned in the Correspondence Group for the first time, and it is expected that discussions on these modes will be conducted from the IMO MASS JWG meeting to held in April 2023. The concept of "Mode of Operation" will be useful in explaining MASS and MASS functions and will be discussed in the future for the development of MASS Code. This paper reviews the contents of the IMCA M 220 document, which provides guidelines on operating modes, to conduct research on the benchmark for setting the operating modes of MASS.

  • This paper proposes a method of fault diagnostics on switching mode power supply. When the error of switching mode power supply cannot be found when the conventional diagnostics is performed, this proposed method first performs diagnosis on the switching mode power supply strictly to judge the operating condition. This method analyzes the PWM wave which depends on the load change, to make sure the feedback control of the power supply to diagnosis the operation of the power supply system.

  • This paper describes the optimal sizing of each component using computer simulation and presents the efficient operating scheme of series HEV using hardware simulator the equivalent system. As the sizing method of components have been experimental and empirical it is needed to spend much time and development cost. however the results of computer simulation will set the optimal sizing of components in short time. There are two type of driving control power-tracking mode and load-levelling mode in series HEV. This paper presents that series HEV be operated in the load-levelling mode which is more efficient that power-tracking mode.

  • This paper presents the reconfigurable flight controller in the presence of jammed actuator fault using the adaptive sliding mode control scheme. It is developed under the assumption that the control surface fault cannot be detected and the positions of stuck control surfaces are unknown. It is well known that sliding mode controller shows good performance for the systems with various uncertainties. None-operating stuck actuator makes the system behave like bias which degrades the system performance and sometimes destabilizes the system.   • The cooling load in winter season is significant in many commercial buildings and hotels because of the usage of office equipments and the high efficiency of wall insulation. The development of a multi-heat pump that can cover heating and cooling simultaneously for each indoor unit is required. In this study, a 4-room simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump system was designed and its performance was measured at each operating mode. The system used R-410A and adopted variable speed compressor. The problems on the designed system were analyzed and defined. In addition, the solutions of the problems were suggested to improve system efficiency and to obtain the stable operation.

  • This study is focused on the numerical predictions of heat and smoke exhaust characteristics in an underground subway station stopping a fire train. Various ventilation operating modes with the fan equipped the platform and tunnels are considered. Distributions of temperature, carbon monoxide and visibility at a height of 1.7 m(breath height) above the platform are analysed for different ventilation fan operation mode. The numerical results show that smoke and heat is rapidly removed through tunnel by operating the tunnels fans. We suggested that during evacuation of passengers is not completed, the ventilation system in the platform is activated. After completion of passenger evacuation tunnel fans are activated but the fans in the platform are stopped.

  • Compared to Packaged Terminal Air Conditioning Systems, Radiant Cooling Systems have the advantage of energy saving and thermal comfort. Thermally Activated Building System (TABS) is one of the radiant heating and cooling systems. The main difference between TABS and other radiant systems lies in the usage of the time-lag effect of storing heat energy in the concrete. Current energy usage in summer time is concentrated within a specific time by using Packaged Terminal Air-Conditioner (PTAC). Due to the time-lag effect of TABS, energy usage can be distributed to other time zones. To maximize this effect, it is important to determine the appropriate operating mode, which for TABS is dependent upon the cooling load generated by the occupancy schedule. In this study, occupancy schedules are determined for various residential types. The operating modes of TABS for these residential types are estimated by using a dynamic computational simulation method. The results indicate that the operating modes of TABS can be determined by residential type and occupancy schedule. The load handled ratio by TABS is set up differently according to the cooling load profile obtained from residential type and occupancy schedule. By using TABS, energy consumption could be reduced by 20% compared to PTAC.

  • DLN-2.6 combustion tuning was carried out for the maintenance of GE 7FA+e gas turbine at Seo-Incheon combined cycle power plant. DLN-2.6 combustion system has the higher level of yellow plume and combustion vibration problem in the initial operating mode than that of the base mode($100{\sim}160MW$). The objectives of this study are to investigate the causes of yellow plume and combustion vibration problems at the starting mode and to suggest the best operating condition for the reliable working of the real combustors. By the analysis of tuning data, we could conclude that a yellow plume is caused by the rich mixture(${\phi}{\sim}1$) in a PM 1 nozzle at mode 3($20{\sim}30MW$). In addition, the combustion vibration($120{\sim}140Hz$) might be related to the cold flow characteristics of PM 3 nozzles at mode 6B($40{\sim}45MW$).

  • Since the oil crisis, we have been concerned about the energy saving techniques of electric generating systems. As a part of the effort to save energy, automatic electric load sharing device was developed. Usually, ship's electric generating system consists of two or three sets of generator. And, electric generating system is operated as single or parallel operation mode according to the demanded electric power. Therefore, it is important to investigate generators operating mode for the supply of required electric power in the ship in order to decrease the operating cost. So, this paper suggests the method to solve the optimal electric load distribution problem by dynamic programming. And, this thesis indicates that the proposed method is superior to the lagrange multiplier's method in obtaining optimal load distribution solution in the ship's electric generating system.

  • This paper proposes soft switching boost converter operating in zero current switching(ZCS) mode for photovoltaic and fuel cell power generation. The proposed topology is capable of reducing the size, and capability of passive element by using soft switching, and it allows for reduction of IGBT switching losses, for the increased of switching frequency. A detail mode analysis of operating in presented. We present the converter topology, principle of operation and simulation results obtained from the PSIM simulator. The performance of the proposed technique in evaluation on 1kW(380V,2.6A) experimental prototype circuit operating at 30kHz.
