The Relationship between Management Performance and Publicness of National University Hospitals (공공의료기관의 경영성과와 공공성 관계)

  • This study is to analyze the relations between management performance and publicness of national university hospitals. The data from 2015 to 2017 were collected from annual reports and balancing accounts in 13 national university hospitals. The results of the study were as follows. Publicness index was found to have a negative(-) effect on net profit to gross revenues, operating margin. Medical social work had a significant positive(+) effect on normal profit to gross revenues, net profit to gross revenues. According to the location of the hospitals, it was found to have a significant effect on the normal profit to gross revenues. It is necessary to evaluate different projects of national university hospital in the public sectors. Based on this, it is necessary to re-establish the role for the purpose of establishment.

Investment efficiency and Relationship between Investment efficiency, Profitability in National University Hospitals (국립대학교병원의 투자효율 및 투자효율과 수익성 간의 관계)

  • The study has been carried out to understand productivity-related factors that have been connected to improve financial independence rate of national university hospital. In order to achieve such research purpose as working out implications of efficient resource management, data from the four years between 2007 to 2010 of 12 national university hospitals were reviewed. According to the results, the hospitals came up with significant differences in Value Added to Total Asset, Value Added to Tangible Fixed Assets, Value Added to Personnel Expenses and Value Added Ratio to Patient Revenues. In addition, after the relation between the investment efficiency and profitability of the national university hospitals was investigated, it was learned that application of basic environmental factors would have an influence on a profitability index Operating Margin. As long as the basic environmental factors are adopted, Operating Margin of the national university hospitals is improved under the condition that the Value Added to Tangible Fixed Assets for Production and the Value Added to Personnel Expenses gets higher but the Value Added Ratio to Patient Revenues gets lowered.

Investment Efficiency and Management Performance of Korean Regional Public Hospitals (지방공사의료원의 투자효율과 경영성과)

  • Objectives : This study examined relations between investment efficiency and management performance as indexes related to productivity of Korean regional public hospitals. Methods : The analysis data are financial information of Korean regional public hospitals from 2011 to 2014. For the indicators, value added to total assets, value added to productive activity tangible fixed assets, and value added to personnel expenses, operating margin to revenues, net profit to total earnings, and ratio of value added. Results : Significant relevance was not shown among indicators of investment efficiency. However, Significant relevance was shown between value added to personnel expense and productivity per value added. Conclusions : It confirmed that outside support funds like subsidy did not have effect on improving the management performance. Also, it could be known that availability about input of capital and labor was not realized organically.

A Comparison Study of Performance between Local Government Hospitals and General Hospitals (지방공사의료원과 의료법인의 성과 비교)

  • The objective of this study is to compare hospital performance between Local Government Hospitals and General Hospitals. To compare the result of the financial performance between two groups, there were significant differences in current ratio, Fixed ratio, total assets turnover, personnel expenses to gross revenues, management expenses to gross revenues, return on assets, operating margin. The significant impact relations of ROA(Return on Assets) were formed the total assets turnover, salaries, material costs, administrative expenses. Although two groups are the similar beds, most of LGH are in the red so the managers and local government must consider the financial efficiency of LGH.

The Factors Affecting the Profitability of Oriental Medicine Hospital of University in Korea (대학부속 한방병원의 수익성 영향요인 연구)

  • In this study, the factors affecting the profitability of the oriental medicine hospitals of University to be analyzed. To do this, profitability indicators and current ratio, liquidity, turnover ratio, cost factors analysis and suggested ways to improve management. The results are as follows, the operating margin(1.17%). the return on assets(3.76%), the net profit to gross revenues(2.37%), and the net profit to total assets(-1.89) were lower than the average of the entire oriental medicine hospitals in Korea(respectively 8.9%, 8.7%, 2.6%, 2.5%). Current ratio(256.76%), quick ratio(231.17%), fixed ratio(121.02%), and total assets turnover(135.69%) were similar to the average of all oriental medicine hospitals in Korea. But growth rate of total assets(-2.21%), and growth rate of patient revenue(1.89%) is low. And salaries(53.39%), materials costs(16.62%), administrative expenses(28.58%) were different to the average of all oriental medicine hospitals in Korea(respectively 35.3%, 10.7%, 45.1%). Meanwhile, the cost ratio of the oriental medicine hospitals of University was 98.59%. It was 7.49% higher than the 91.1% of the average of all oriental medicine hospitals in 2011. Correlation analysis, growth rate of patient revenue and operating margin increased at the same time, and net profit to gross revenues and net profit to total assets with a growth rate of total assets increased. And administrative expenses and profitability indicators showed a negative correlation. It means, in order to improve the profitability of the oriental medicine hospitals of University should focus on reducing administrative expenses. Multiple regression analysis, growth rate of total assets, total assets turnover, administrative expenses, and salaries has affected the profitability. Therefore, in order to improve the profitability of the oriental medicine hospitals of University to increase the total capital and the total capital turnover, and to reduce administrative expenses effort.
