A Study on an Equipment Performance Measurement System for Effective Bottleneck Management (병목 설비의 개선 활동에 유용한 설비관리 지표체계에 관한 연구)

  • Manufacturing companies' cost competitiveness with respect to equipment management can be achieved by satisfying additional market demands by their own capacity without purchasing additional equipments. In essence, it can be accomplished by making continuous investigation into bottlenecks and improvement on them. Therefore, equipment performance measure systems should be designed so that they can support manufacturing companies' such endeavors. With the purpose of establishing an effective equipment performance measurement system for detecting and improving bottlenecks, this study (1) suggests some desirable features that such a system should have, (2) evaluates conventional equipment performance measurement systems in terms of their usefulness for the detection and improvement of bottlenecks, and (3) proposes an improved system. We also perform a simulation experiment to demonstrate the limitations of the conventional systems and show how the proposed system can resolve the problems.

Design and Development of an Advanced Real-Time Satellite Simulator

  • An advanced real-time satellite simulator (ARTSS) has been developed to support the ground operations activities of the ETRI satellite control system, such as testing of the system facilities, validation of flight control procedures, verification of satellite commands as well as training of the ground operators. The design of ARTSS is based on the top-down approach and makes use of a modular programming to ensure flexibility in modification and expansion of the system. Graphics-based monitoring and control facilities enhance the satellite simulation environment. The software spacecraft model in ARTSS simulates the characteristics of a geostationary communication satellite using a momentum bias three-axis stabilization control technique. The system can be also interfaced with a hardware payload subsystem such as Ku-band communication transponder to enhance the simulator capability. Therefore, ARTSS is a high fidelity satellite simulation tool that can be used on low-cost desk top computers. In this paper, we describe the design features, the simulation models and the real-time operating functions of the simulator.

  • Human Factors Engineering(HFE) program should be developed from the early stage of the design process for Nuclear Power Plant. The HFE program is conducted in accordance with the guidance in the Standard Review Plan(SRP) NUREG 0800, Chapter 18. The major purpose of this program is to reduce the incidence of human error during the operating life of the plants. A comprehensive human factors program is prepared by KOPEC to assure that key elements of human factors involvement are not inadvertently overlooked and the early, complete, and continuing inclusion of HFE in the design process. This paper is to introduce engineering steps of the HF activities to verify that the HF involvements on man-machine interface are adequate to support safe and efficient operation of nuclear power plant. If systems are developed without sufficient consideration on the HFE in the design, such systems may cost a high price due to the malfunction of the plant induced by the human errors.

  • As the IT service environment grows, it is critical in terms of IT service quality to minimize the occurrence of failures due to changes in applications and to diagnose and recover in a short period of time how failure will affect the business. Thus, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has been building and operating ITSMs to implement IT service management in a leading manner. Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) is divided into events, obstacles, changes, versions and setup management to ensure flexibility and stability in service delivery. It is also operated separately from service level, availability, capacity, financial and IT service continuity management to ensure service quality and cost efficiency. Based on ITSM military service history, this study looks at the impact of quality of service on value, satisfaction, and trust. The results of the analysis are highly valuable for future ITSM implementation and operation.

  • Recently, most managers of Small & Medium Enterprises(SMEs) think that all problem of a company is solved if only implementation of ERP or e-business. But it's too risky. Technology of IT is developing so radical, so managers didn't have enough time to consider what system is appropriate in their business process and how implement information system is when they establish Information System. This Study addresses the present Information System that operating and needed for SMEs based on the Value Chain of IS. Thus through the prediction on the consequence of IS implementation, we could cut down unnecessary investment cost and support core competence of a company. Next time, the study on the classification of more detail IS associated in SME's performance is required.

  • Reliability growth testing used to evaluate reliability in the automobile industry have not always been able to correctly address reliability concerns with increased confidence. The demand to confirm to all product performance requirements under various operating environments has added to the complexity of accurately assessin theproduct's reliability in the required development time. In addition, it is often desired to determine the relationship of a product's reliability to cost, development time, design, manufacturability and assembly. This paper presents the methods for reliability growth modeling to evaluate and interpret reliability concerns to support the reliability analysis of automobile assemblies and systems. This reliability growth modeling process is a mechanism to help "build in" reliability during early phases in the vehicle devleopment stage.

  • Purpose: The RAM objective is a very important factor that has a great effect on the improvement of the operation ration during the operation maintenance and the reduction of the life cycle cost. It is used as a design criterion during the system development, and its sufficiency should be evaluated during its test evaluation. Method: This study analyzed the cases related to RAM objective setting and suggested the improvement measures. Result: The base data for RAM objective is OMS/MP, which needs to be drawn up under the supervision of the requirement military, and a high-accuracy operating availability should be set through ALDT calculation which reflects the military logistics support environment. In addition, data collection necessary for RAM objective and RAM analysis should be made by supplementing the input data of DELIIS. Conclusion: This study suggests improvement of RAM objective considering for the weapon system.

  • This paper addresses the design and implementation of a wireless network. proposed as a cost-effective support platform for PLCs. With this network. one or more supervising stations may access remote equipment like PLCs. An applicable communication methods are described and we applied efficient method among them to PLCs communication. The paper specifies these requirements and indicates methods to fulfill them. Also. it provides to the model of operation, and focuses on the implementation approach. The hardware and software design is described together with a number of critical points related to wireless communication on the Cnet. Furthermore, a discussion on system expandability and performance is tackled and some observations are stated. The main conclusion is, that the proposed method can feature good performance under normal operating conditions.

  • The turbine industry demands a reliable design with affordable cost. As technological advances begin to support turbines of huge sizes, and the increasing importance of wind turbines from day to day make design safety conditions more important. Wind turbines are exposed to environmental conditions that can affect their installation, durability, and operation. International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61400-1 design load cases consist of analyses involving wind turbine operating conditions. This design load cases (DLC) is important for determining fatigue loads (i.e., forces and moments) that occur as a result of expected conditions throughout the life of the machine. With the help of FAST (Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures, and Turbulence), an open source software, the NREL 5MW land base wind turbine model was used. IEC 61400-1 wind turbine design standard procedures assessed turbine behavior and fatigue damage to the tower base of dynamic loads in different design conditions. Real characteristic wind speed distribution and multi-directional effect specific to the site were taken into consideration. The effect of these conditions on the economic service life of the turbine has been studied.

A study on the Cost-effective Architecture Design of High-speed Soft-decision Viterbi Decoder for Multi-band OFDM Systems (Multi-band OFDM 시스템용 고속 연판정 비터비 디코더의 효율적인 하드웨어 구조 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we present a cost-effective architecture of high-speed soft-decision Viterbi decoder for Multi-band OFDM(MB-OFDM) systems. In the design of modem for MB-OFDM systems, a parallel processing architecture is general]y used for the reliable hardware implementation, because the systems should support a very high-speed data rate of at most 480Mbps. A Viterbi decoder also should be designed by using a parallel processing structure and support a very high-speed data rate. Therefore, we present a optimized hardware architecture for 4-way parallel processing Viterbi decoder in this paper. In order to optimize the hardware of Viterbi decoder, we compare and analyze various ACS architectures and find the optimal one among them with respect to hardware complexity and operating frequency The Viterbi decoder with a optimal hardware architecture is designed and verified by using Verilog HDL, and synthesized into gate-level circuits with TSMC 0.13um library. In the synthesis results, we find that the Viterbi decoder contains about 280K gates and works properly at the speed required in MB-OFDM systems.
