  • Currently, the number of bridge structures in Korea is continuously increasing and enlarged, and the number of old bridges that have been in service for more than 30 years is also steadily increasing. Bridge aging is being treated as a serious social problem not only in Korea but also around the world, and the existing manpower-centered inspection method is revealing its limitations. Recently, various bridge damage detection studies using deep learning-based image processing algorithms have been conducted, but due to the limitations of the bridge damage data set, most of the bridge damage detection studies are mainly limited to one type of crack, which is also based on a close set classification model. As a detection method, when applied to an actual bridge image, a serious misrecognition problem may occur due to input images of an unknown class such as a background or other objects. In this study, five types of bridge damage including crack were defined and a data set was built, trained as a deep learning model, and an open set recognition-based bridge multiple damage recognition model applied with OpenMax algorithm was constructed. And after performing classification and recognition performance evaluation on the open set including untrained images, the results were analyzed.

  • The open set recognition method should be used for the cases that the classes of test data are not known completely in the training phase. So it is required to include two processes of classification and the validation test. This kind of research is very necessary for commercialization of face recognition modules, but few domestic researches results about it have been published. In this paper, we propose an open set face recognition method that includes two sequential validation phases. In the first phase, with dummy classes we perform classification based on sparse representation. Here, when the test data is classified into a dummy class, we conclude that the data is invalid. If the data is classified into one of the regular training classes, for second validation test we extract four features and apply them for the proposed decision function. In experiments, we proposed a simulation method for open set recognition and showed that the proposed validation test outperform SCI of the well-known validation method

  • This paper deals with text-prompt speaker recognition based on dynamic time warping (DTW). The Genetic Algorithm was applied to the creation of reference patterns for suitable reflection of the speaker characteristics, one of the most important determinants in the fields of speaker recognition. In order to overcome the weakness of text-dependent and text-independent speaker recognition, the text-prompt type was suggested. Performed speaker identification and verification in close and open set respectively, hence the Genetic algorithm-based reference patterns had been proven to have better performance in both recognition rate and speed than that of conventional reference patterns.

  • Recognition of three-dimensional objects with convexities and concavities is a hard and challenging problem. This paper presents a feature extraction method out of three-dimensional objects for the purpose of classification. This new method not only provides invariance to scale, translation, and rotation $R^3$ but also distinguishes any three-dimensional model objects with concavities and convexities by measuring a relative similarity in the information space where a set of characteristics features of objects is mapped.

  • Hearing impairment children possess poor underlying perceptual knowledge of the sound system and show delayed development of segmental organization of that system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between phonological awareness ability and word identification ability in hearing impaired children. 14 children with moderately severe hearing loss participated in this study. All tasks were individually administered. Phonological awareness tests consisted of syllable blending, syllable segmentation, syllable deletion, body-coda discrimination, phoneme blending, phoneme segmentation and phoneme deletion. Close-set Monosyllabic Words(12 items) and lists 1 and 2 of open-set Monosyllabic Words in EARS-K were examined for word identification. Results of this study were as follows: First, from the phonological awareness task, the close-set word identification showed a high positive correlation with the coda discrimination, phoneme blending and phoneme deletion. The open-set word identification showed a high positive correlation with phoneme blending, phoneme deletion and phoneme segmentation. Second, from the level of phonological awareness, the close-set word identification showed a high positive correlation with the level of body-coda awareness and phoneme awareness while the open-set word identification showed a high positive correlation only with the level of phoneme awareness.

  • As autonomous driving research is actively progressing, lane detection is an essential technology in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) to locate a vehicle and maintain a route. Lane detection is detected using an image processing algorithm such as Hough transform and RANSAC (Random Sample Consensus). This paper implements a linear shape detection algorithm using OpenCV on Raspberry Pi 3 B+. Thresholds were set through OpenCV Gaussian blur structure and Canny edge detection, and lane recognition was successful through linear detection algorithm.

  • Recently, deep learning networks with high performance for object recognition are emerging. In the case of object recognition using deep learning, it is important to build a training data set to improve performance. To build a data set, we need to collect and label the images. This process requires a lot of time and manpower. For this reason, open data sets are used. However, there are objects that do not have large open data sets. One of them is data required for license plate detection and recognition. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an artificial license plate generator system that can create large data sets by minimizing images. In addition, the detection rate according to the artificial license plate arrangement structure was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the best layout structure was FVC_III and B, and the most suitable network was D2Det. Although the artificial data set performance was 2-3% lower than that of the actual data set, the time to build the artificial data was about 11 times faster than the time to build the actual data set, proving that it is a time-efficient data set building system.

  • This paper proposes a method of recognition abandoned objects using convolutional neural networks. The method first detects an area for an abandoned object in image and, if there is a detected area, applies convolutional neural networks to that area to recognize which object is represented. Experiments were conducted through an application system that detects illegal trash dumping. The experiments result showed the area of abandoned object was detected efficiently. The detected areas enter the input of convolutional neural networks and are classified into whether it is a trash or not. To do this, I trained convolutional neural networks with my own trash dataset and open database. As a training result, I achieved high accuracy for the test set not included in the training set.

  • In this paper, we propose an i-vector based language recognition system to identify the spoken language of the speaker, which uses multiple discriminative deep neural network (DNN) models analogous to the multi-class support vector machine (SVM) classification system. The proposed model was trained and tested using the i-vectors included in the NIST 2015 i-vector Machine Learning Challenge database, and shown to outperform the conventional language recognition methods such as cosine distance, SVM and softmax NN classifier in open-set experiments.

  • Face detection algorithm of OpenCV recognizes the faces by Haar matching between input image and Haar features which are learned through a set of training images consisting of many front faces. Therefore the face detection method by Haar matching yields a high face detection rate for the front faces but not in the case of the pan and deformed faces. On the assumption that distributional characteristics of color histogram is similar even if deformed or side faces, a face detection method using the histogram pattern matching is proposed in this paper. In the case of the missed detection and false detection caused by Haar matching, the proposed face detection algorithm applies the histogram pattern matching with the correct detected face area of the previous frame so that the face region with the most similar histogram distribution is determined. The experiment for evaluating the face detection performance reveals that the face detection rate was enhanced about 8% than the conventional method.
