Performance Evaluation of SDN Controllers: RYU and POX for WBAN-based Healthcare Applications

  • Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have made it easier for healthcare workers and patients to monitor patients' status continuously in real time. WBANs have complex and diverse network structures; thus, management and control can be challenging. Therefore, considering emerging Software-defined networks (SDN) with WBANs is a promising technology since SDN implements a new network management and design approach. The SDN concept is used in this study to create more adaptable and dynamic network architectures for WBANs. The study focuses on comparing the performance of two SDN controllers, POX and Ryu, using Mininet, an open-source simulation tool, to construct network topologies. The performance of the controllers is evaluated based on bandwidth, throughput, and round-trip time metrics for networks using an OpenFlow switch with sixteen nodes and a controller for each topology. The study finds that the choice of network controller can significantly impact network performance and suggests that monitoring network performance indicators is crucial for optimizing network performance. The project provides valuable insights into the performance of SDN-based WBANs using POX and Ryu controllers and highlights the importance of selecting the appropriate network controller for a given network architecture.

  • We present two decomposition approximations for the mean sojourn times in open single class queing networks. If there is a single bottleneck station, the approximations are asymptotically exact in both light and heavy traffic. When applied to a Jackson network or an M/G/1 queue, these approximations are exact for all values of the traffic intensity.

중소기업의 개방형 혁신활동 특성과 외부 협력 네트워크 분석 (Analyzing the Characteristics of Open Innovation Activity and the External Collaboration Network in SMEs)

  • 이 논문은 중소기업을 대상으로 최근 기술혁신의 새로운 패러다임으로 대두되고 있는 개방형 혁신활동을 파악하는데 목적을 두었다. 특히 중소기업들이 기술혁신 과정에서 어떻게 외부와의 협력 네트워크가 구축되며, 실제로 어떤 단계에서 개방형 혁신활동이 이루어지는 가를 분석하였다. 외부와의 협력을 통해 기술개발을 경험한 3,400개 중소기업을 대상으로 개방형 혁신활동의 특성을 파악하였으며, 기술혁신과정의 어떤 단계에서 어떻게 개방형 혁신활동이 이루어지는 가를 구체적으로 파악하기 위하여 충북테크노파크에 입지한 14개 업체를 대상으로 하여 심층 인터뷰도 병행하였다. 연구 결과 기업 자체의 혁신역량이 부족한 중소기업의 경우 아이디어 단계 및 기술개발 단계에서 개방형 혁신활동을 통해 외부로부터 다양한 자원을 활용하며, 기업이 혁신적일수록 개방형 혁신활동을 활발하게 수행하고 있고, 이직이나 창업과 같은 노동시장의 유연성도 나타나고 있다.

  • 우리나라 군에서 부대간 정보교환을 위해 전술정보통신체계(Tactical information communication network; TICN)를 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 공개소프트웨어(Open source software; OSS)를 기반으로 TICN 체계에 적용 가능한 다자간 음성 및 영상통화용 미디어처리보드를 개발하였다. 한편 무기체계 및 무기체계에 장착되는 부품에 공개소프트웨어를 적용하기 위해서는 방위사업청의 무기체계 소프트웨어 개발 및 관리 매뉴얼에 따른 적절한 검토를 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 미디어처리보드에 적용된 공개소프트웨어를 대상으로 방위사업청 메뉴얼의 부록인 '공개소프트웨어 무기체계 적용 가이드라인'에서 요구하는 검토 사항에 대한 분석을 수행하고, 적절한 대응 방안을 제시하였다.

  • When DG interconnection into network is examined, details of the review are overvoltage, protective device malfunction, etc. In the case of protective device malfunction, replacing protective device into bi-directional protective device and installation NGR are the solution. Overvoltage at interconnection point occurs because the load is relatively less than DG output. When overvoltage at interconnection point occurs, DG interconnection is not permitted because this overvoltage affect other customers. Interconnection by installation new distribution line is one solution but it costs much money. Without installation new investment, change of NOP(Normal Open Point) position is a possible solution about DG interconnection into network.

  • 본 논문은 Cable Modem이 Embedded되어 양방향 서비스가 지원되는 방송수신장치인 양방향 Digital Cable수신기의 IP기반의 Network응용프로그램인 SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol)를 이용하여 원격지에서 센서 데이터를 실시간 모니터링하고 Processing 할 수 있는 시스템 개발에 관한 것이다. 센서는 양방향 Digital Cable수신기의 하나의 장치로서 인식되며 원격지의 Management Server에 센서데이터를 전송 할 수 MIB(Management Information Base)객체로 존재하게 되며 Digital Cable 방송수신장치는 시스템에 대한 정보나 센서데이터에 관한 정보를 전송할 SNMP Agent를 보유하게 되어 케이블 네트워크에서 정보의 전달이 가능하게 된다.

Noisy Data Aggregation with Independent Sensors: Insights and Open Problems

  • Our networked world has been growing exponentially fast. The explosion in volume of machine-to-machine (M2M) transactions threatens to exceed the transport capacity of the networks that link them. Therefore, it is quite essential to reconsider the tradeoff between using many data sets versus using good data sets. We focus on this tradeoff in the context of the quality of information aggregated from many sensors in a noisy environment. We start with a basic theoretical model considered in the famous "CEO problem'' in the field of information theory. From a point of view of large deviations, we successfully find a simple statement for the optimal strategies under the limited network capacity condition. Moreover, we propose an open problem for a sensor network scenario and report a numerical result.

Meeting the Demands for Major International Traffic Flows through Railnet Austria's Maintenance and Capacity Planning Regime

  • Serving as a strategic crossing point for major corridors in Central Europe, Railnet Austria's Infrastructure Network incurs continual increases in international traffic flows and is therefore subject to accumulating traffic congestion with potential restrictions to infrastructure access. This imposes challenges towards preserving open access to Railnet Austria's existing railway network and hinders quality infrastructure service during maintenance, repair, and upgrading. Through Railnet Austria's experiences, the economic viability of a railway network can be sustained through maintaining open access with good quality service of planned trainpaths, thus representing new challenges for future infrastructure maintenance and capacity planning. Railnet Austria's Capacity Management Department has proven that these challenges can be accommodated more effectively through recent technological developments in data warehousing and software development.

  • Location Based Services, or LBS refers to value-added service by processing information utilizing mobile user location. With the rapidly increasing wireless internet subscribers and world LBS market, the various location based applications are introduced such as buddy finder, proximity and security services. As the killer application of the wireless internet, the LBS has preconsidered technology about location determination technology, LBS middleware server for various application, and diverse contents processing technology. This paper describes the open architecture for LBS platform ensuring interoperability among the wireless networks and various location-based application services and the functional requirements for the LBS platform. The LBS platform in a narrow sense provides a standard interfaces for location management and network management for location services as follows, positioning (location acquisition through network or/and handset), location managing, location based functions, profile management, authentication and security, location based billing, information roaming between carriers and the system monitoring independent to specific network or ISP/CPs(Content Providers).
