  • This paper deals with the prediction of characteristic for permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM). The open-circuit field distribution is predicted using a two-dimensional(2-D) analytical solution derivd in terms of magnetic vector potential. The slotting and skew effect is considered using the relative permeance function. and than using this result, flux linkage and back EMF is calculated. The results are validated extensively by finite element(FE) analyses and measurement.

A Study on the Corrosion Properties of Underwater Wet Arc Welds using the SM 41 (선체용 압연 강판의 습식 수중 아크 용접부의 부식특성에 관한 연구)

  • Underwater wet arc welds were experimentally performed on 11mm thick KR-RA steel plate using six different types of flux coated electrodes of 4.0mm diameter, KSKR, KSKT, USBL, JPUW, UWEA and UWEB. From analysis of bead appearance, detachability of weld slag, spatter occurrence and arc stability, JPUW gives the best result, and UWEB is superior to KSKR and KSKT. By experimental result of hardness distribution on the weld bonds, UWEB weld has the narrowest bond structure which is probable condition to get the best mechanical properties of weld. UWEB and JPUW welds have more even hardness distribution across weld deposit and base metal. Upon polarization test to measure the respondency of corrosion, the electrode of UWEB shows the most excellent degree due to the low open circuit potential difference.

The Preparation of Poly(N-methylpyrrole) Bilayers with Entrapped Anthraquinone-2-sulfonate

  • Anthraquinone-2-sulfonate (AQS) release from poly(N-methylpyrrole anthraquinone-2-sulfonate) (PNMP-AQS) was investigated at open circuit and compared with electrochemically stimulated release during potential cycling. It was found that the fast AQS release from PNMP-AQS single layers is substantially retarded and the amounts of spontaneously and electrochemically releasable AQS can be reduced by constructing bilayers, consisting of PNMP-AQS inner layers and PNMP outer layers. PNMP-Cl outer layers exhibited higher effectiveness for entrapping AQS within inner layers than PNMP/poly(styrene slfonate). The effects of outer layer thicknesses on AQS release were also examined with PNMP-AQS:PMP-Cl. The electroactivity enhancement of PNMP-AQS:PNMP-Cl bilayers due to entrapped AQS was confirmed by chronocoulometry.

Evaluation of Corrosion Resistance Properties of Hexagonal Boron Nitride Based Polymer Composite Coatings for Carbon Steel in a Saline Environment

  • Herein, we report polyvinyl butyral composites coatings containing various loadings of 72-h bath sonicated hexagonal boron nitride particles (5 ㎛) to enhance barrier properties of coatings. Barrier properties of coatings were determined in 3.5 wt% NaCl after different time periods of immersion via electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and potentiodynamic polarization test. Coatings containing sonicated hexagonal boron particles exhibited improved corrosion resistance for longer periods of immersion compared to neat coating. We also discussed effects of hexagonal boron nitride on healing properties of polyvinyl butyral. Coatings containing 1.0 wt% loading of sonicated hexagonal boron nitride showed improved long-term barrier properties than coatings with other compositions. The presence of hexagonal boron nitride also affected the healing properties of polyvinyl butyral coatings besides their barrier properties. Such improved barrier properties of composites coatings were attributed to the high aspect ratio, plate-like shape, and electrically insulated nature of the filler.

  • In this study, the optimum amount of chloride ions is used to collaborate with hybrid corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel rebar treatment in simulated pore concrete (SCP) solution is discovered. The corrosion inhibition performance of hybrid inhibitors is carried on by open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PP). The highest corrosion inhibition resistance is found in case of LP-C2 after 240 h exposure. Surface studies including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to figure out the surface morphology of the steel rebar treated with hybrid inhibitors in order to collaborate well with electrochemical studies. Anodic type inhibition action was confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization study.

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) structures play a significant role in the construction industries. An embeddable solid-state reference electrode (ESSRE) was used to evaluate the corrosion status of steel rebar in the concrete of various cover thicknesses that exposed to the maritime environment (3.5 % NaCl) in this study. From the open circuit potential measurement (OCP), the passive state, the corrosion uncertainty, and the 90% probability of corrosion state of the steel rebars in the concrete were monitored by ESSRE. From the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method, severe corrosion was observed at the exposure period of 1510, 1847, 2350, and 3020 h for C10, C15, C20, and C30 concrete, respectively. The results confirm that the ESSRE can be useful to identify the corrosion occurrence and severe corrosion of steel rebar embedded in different cover depth concrete structures.

  • Phosphate based inhibitor is playing a decisive role in inhibiting the corrosion of steel rebar in chloride condition. We have used different amount of ammonium phosphate monobasic (APMB) as corrosion inhibitor in mortar with different amount of chloride ions. The compressive strength, flexural strength, open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization resistance (PPR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy were performed to access the effect of inhibitor on corrosion resistance. As the amount of inhibitor is increased, the compressive strength increased. The electrochemical results show that as the amount of inhibitor and chloride ions are increased, the total impedance and corrosion resistance of steel rebar increased attributed to the formation of the stable oxide films onto the steel rebar surface. It is suggested that APMB can work in high concentration of chloride ions present in concrete where phosphate ion helps in formation of stable and protective phosphate based oxide film.

  • In this study, the optimum amount of hybrid inhibitors i.e. L-Arginine (LA) and sodium phosphate tribasic dodecahydrate (SP), applied for carbon steel rebar in simulated pore concrete (SCP) solution contaminated with 3.5 wt.% NaCl, was discovered. The corrosion inhibition performance of hybrid inhibitors was investigated by open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization. The highest corrosion inhibition efficiency was found as 99.52% corresponding to 2% LA and 0.25% SP after 210 h exposure. Anodic type inhibition action was confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization study.   • In this present study, the corrosion mitigation effect of conifer cone extract (CC) was examined in the cement mortar to improve the steel rebar (SR) corrosion resistance. The corrosion inhibition properties of the SR embedded in cement mortar (CM) admixed with different percentage (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 %) of CC was studied by open circuit potential (OCP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests. This result confirms that the CM with 0.5% of CC added has better corrosion resistance than the blank specimen (0 % of CC). Although, the percentage of CC increase above 0.5%, the CC could yield a negative impact on CM properties in terms of reducing the corrosion resistance due to the reduction of cement hydration reaction. It was highlighted that the SR embedded in CM containing 0.5% of CC had increased corrosion resistance.

A Study of Over Voltage Ground Relay Operation Status at Opening of No-load Charged Cable (무부하 충전케이블 개방시 잔류전압에의한 과전압계전기 동작현상 연구)

  • Fault current is flowed into 154/23kV M. Tr when line-to-ground fault occurs in power system. NGR(Neutral Grounded Reactor) is set up in order to prevent M.Tr fault by limiting magnitude of fault currents. Here, disconnection of NGR causes voltage increase by L-C resonance and line-to-ground fault in an unearthed system results in voltage increase at healthy phases. So Over Voltage Ground Relay(OVGR) is used for tripping M.Tr. Also, buses at second phases of M.Trs are all connected with section circuit breakers closed for the purpose of parallel operation and load shedding. In case of speciality buses are comprised of power cable in part for GIS connection. When no-load charged cable or bus is open by a section CB, unbalanced voltage charged on the bus is induced. Also discrepant opening time for circuit breakers on different phases gives rise to unbalanced zero sequence voltage. It was observed that this zero sequence voltage detected in the 22.9kV P.T (Potential Transformer for bus) mal-operated 59GT and tripped M.Tr. The zero sequence voltage of which vanishing time is longer than relay operating time came out by EMTDC simulation. Also, it was shown that the voltage waves of actual test are similar to those of simulation. On the basis of above results, R-C circuit complement on the relay without any effect on a power system made operating time of the relay longer than vanishing time of distorted waves. Consequently, operating time of the relay was delayed and magnitude of distorted waves was decreased by increasing time constant of the relay.
