이미지 상관법을 이용한 원공 인장 시편 변위 및 변형율 측정을 위한 알고리즘 개발에 관한 연구 (Study on the Development of the Displacement and Strain Distribution Measurement Algorithm to the Open Hole Tension Test by Using the Digital Image Correlation)

  • The mechanical jointing method is very important in the machine parts and structure. They are used by the bolts and rivet because it is very convenient to replace the parts and the structure. However, the mechanical jointing methods using the bolt and rivet needed the open hole. The machine parts life cycle is reduced because this open hole created the stress concentration. Therefore, the measurement methods are needed to evaluate phenomenon of the stress concentration. This paper discusses the development of the measurement algorithm using the digital image correlation methods to measure the strain distribution of the open hole. To implement the measurement algorithm using the DIC, the LabVIEW 2010 programming tool was used. To measure the strain distribution of the open hole, the tensile specimens having an open hole are made by using the aluminum 6061-T6. To secure the reliability of measurement result using the DIC, the DIC measurement results and FEM analysis results were compared.

충격시 CFRP 복합재 판의 거동과 충격후 압축강도에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Investigation on the Behaviour of CFRP Laminated Composites under Impact and Compression After Impact (CAI))

  • The importance of understanding the response of structural composites to impact and CAI cannot be overstated to develop analytical models for impact damage and CAI strength predictions. This paper presents experimental findings observed from quasi-static lateral load tests, low velocity impact tests, CAI strength and open hole compressive strength tests using 3mm thick composite plates ($[45/-45/0/90]_{3s}$ - IM7/8552). The conclusion is drawn that damage areas for both quasi-static lateral load and impact tests are similar and the curves of several drop weight impacts with varying energy levels (between 5.4 J and 18.7 J) fallow the static curve well. In addition, at a given energy the peak force is in good agreement between the static and impact cases. From the CAI strength and open hole compressive strength tests, it is identified that the failure behaviour of the specimens was very similar to that observed in laminated plates with open holes under compression loading. The residual strengths are in good agreement with the measured open hole compressive strengths, considering the impact damage site as an equivalent hole. The experimental findings suggest that simple analytical models for the prediction of impact damage area and CAI strength can be developed on the basis of the failure mechanism observed from the experimental tests.

항공기 복합재료 적용 시편의 4점 굽힘 강도 연구 (A Study on 4 Point Bending Strength of Aircraft Composite Specimens)

  • In this study, it was performed damage assesment of small scale composite aircraft developing. This aircraft adopted the sandwich structure to skin of wing. This study aims to investigate the residual strength of sandwich composites with Nomex honeycomb core and carbon fiber face sheets after the open hole damage by the experimental investigation. The 4-point bending tests were used to find the bending strength, and the open hole was applied to introduce the simulated damage on the specimen. The bending strength test results after open hole was compared with the results of no damaged specimen test. The FEM analysis is assessed via an experimental 4-point bending test.

  • 고다층 배선 기판에 형성된 개방 스터브(open stub)를 제거한 후면드릴가공홀(Back-Drilled-Hole, BDH)과 일반적인 구조인 관통홀(Plated-Through-Hole, PTH) 구조의 전기적 특성에 대한 분석을 하였으며, 고속 선호를 부품 실장면으로부터 내층의 스트립라인으로 전송하기 위해 비아홀의 급전 길이가 가장 긴 전송층을 선택하였다. 10 GHz의 광대역 주파수 내에서 실험계획법(DOE, design of experiment)을 적용하여 비아홀 구조 내에 외층과 급전층 사이의 비아홀의 길이, 접지층에 형성된 천공(anti-pad)의 크기와 급전층에 형성된 패드 (pad)의 크기가 최대 반사 손실 반전력 주파수와 삽입 손실에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이로 부터 거시적 모델(macro model)을 위한 회귀 실험식을 추출하여 실험 결과와 비교 평가하였고, 실험 영역 외에서도 측정 결과와 5% 이내의 오차를 보이고 있음을 확인하였다.

Investigation of Tensile Behaviors in Open Hole and Bolt Joint Configurations of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites

  • This study investigated the open hole tensile (OHT) properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites and compared them to bolt joint tensile (BJT) properties. The net nominal modulus and strength (1376 MPa) were found to be higher than the gross nominal strength (1041 MPa), likely due to increasing hole size. The OHT and BJT specimens exhibited similar stiffness, as expected without bolt rotation causing secondary bending. OHT specimens experienced a sharp drop in stress indicating unstable crack propagation, delamination, and catastrophic failure. BJT specimens failed through shear out on the bolt side and bearing failure on the nut side, involving fiber kinking, matrix splitting, and delamination, resulting in lower strength compared to OHT specimens. The strength retention of carbon fiber/epoxy composites with open holes was 66%. Delamination initiation at the hole's edge caused a reduction in the stress concentration factor. Filling the hole with a bolt suppressed this relieving mechanism, leading to lower strength in BJT specimens compared to OHT specimens. Bolt joint efficiency was calculated as 15%. The reduction in strength in bolted joints was attributed to fiber-matrix splitting and delamination, aligning with Hart Smith's bolted joint efficiency diagram. These findings contribute to materials selection and structural reliability estimation for carbon fiber/epoxy composites. They highlight the behavior of open hole and bolt joint configurations under tensile loading, providing valuable insights for engineering applications.

Visualization of Surface Deformation on an Open-Hole Specimen Based on Grating Shearography

  • This contribution contained the classical work of an open-hole tensile plate to demonstrate the performance of grating shearography and to compare with the results obtained by other full-field measurement techniques, The isotropic plate with an open-hole has often appeared in the previous contributions introducing novel full-field method and system. Grating shearography directly provided six quantitative measurands about the specimen's surface kinematics by using a single measurement set: three in-plane strains, in plane rotation, and two out-of-plane slopes. The quasi-plane wavefront of grating metrology led to high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and thus neither fitting nor filtering was applied, and the small shearing distance of $101{\mu}m$ could be used. The small shearing distance provided the outstanding spatial resolution of $80{\mu}m$ and sensitivity appropriate for experimental mechanics. Finally, the grating shearography enabled the visualization of the complex surface deformation around the hole and also detected parasitic flexions of the specimen in the micrometer regime during the tensile test.

섬유강화 복합재료에서 결함의 보강재에 의한 강도 평가 (The Strength Evaluation of Reinforced Flaw by Stiffener in Woven Fiber Reinforced Composite Plates)

  • The use of advanced composite materials has grown in recent years in aerospace and other structures. Out of various kinds of repairing methods the one selecteh for this study is an idealized case which simulates a situation where a damaged laminate has been repaired by drilling a hole and therefter plugging the hole with reinforcement. Two typesof reinforcement are investigated ;adhesively bonged plug reinforcement or snug-fit unbonded plug in the hole. For each case of reinforcement, four different sizes of hole diameter and three types of reinforcing material(steel, aluminum, plexiglass) are employed for investigation. The experiment are mainloy forced on the evaluation of ultimate strength of laminate with reinforced hole in comparison to its counterpart with the open hole.

원공을 가지는 복합재 적층판의 인장강도 예측 기법 (A Method to Predict the Open-Hole Tensile Strength of Composite Laminate)

  • 전통적인 특성길이 방법을 이용하여 원공이 있는 복합재 적층판의 강도를 예측하기 위해서는 원공이 있는 적층뿐만 아니라 원공이 없는 적층판에 대한 시험 결과와 유한요소해석이 필요하였다. 본 논문에서는 응력집중계수와 재료상수를 이용하여 유한요소해석 없이 복합재 적층판 원공 주위의 응력분포 및 인장특성길이를 추정하고, 이를 바탕으로 원공이 있는 복합재 적층판의 인장강도를 예측할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 새로운 방법에서는 재료의 효과가 변수로 고려되므로 다양한 재료에 대한 적용이 가능하며 원공이 있는 복합재 적층판에 대한 시험도 생략할 수 있다. 적층판 주위의 응력분포는 유한요소해석과의 비교를 통해 검증하였고, 최종적으로는 USN125 탄소/에폭시 적층판을 제작하여 파손하중 예측 결과와 시험 결과를 비교하였다. 원공이 있는 다양한 형상의 복합재 적층판의 파손강도 예측 결과는 최대 8% 이내의 오차로 시험 결과와 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.

카본/에폭시 면재 및 허니컴 코어 샌드위치 복합재 구조의 구멍 손상에 의한 4점 굽힘 강도 연구 (A Study on 4 Point Bending Strength of Carbon/epoxy Face Sheet and Honeycomb Core Sandwich Composite Structure after Open Hole Damage)

  • 본 연구에서는 전기체 복합재가 적용되어 설계된 소형 항공기의 손상 평가 및 유지 보수 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 개발 중인 항공기의 스킨 부위는 샌드위치 구조가 적용되었다. 본 연구에서는 노멕스 허니컴코어와 카본 면재가 적용된 샌드위치 복합재 구조에 대해 구멍 손상 이후의 잔류 강도 평가에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 4점 굽힘 시험을 통해 시편의 굽힘 강도를 확인하고, 시편에 손상을 모사하기 위하여 시편의 중앙 부위에 구멍 손상을 가하였다. 손상된 시편을 손상 전 시편과 동일한 시험을 통해 손상 전의 강도와 비교하였다. 또한 손상된 복합재 구조는 손상 부위 제거 후 패치 수리 기법을 적용하고 손상된 시편과 보수된 시편의 굽힘 강도 시험결과를 비교하였다. 샌드위치 복합재 구조 시편의 유지 보수 후 굽힘 강도 시험 결과 손상 전 시편의 강도와 비교하여 강도의 95%까지 회복되는 것으로 분석되었다.

Laminate Tensile Failure Strength Prediction using Stress Failure Criteria

  • This paper presents a method that uses the stress failure criteria to predict the tensile failure strength of open-hole laminates with stress concentrations. The composite material used in this study corresponds to a 177 ℃ cured, carbon/epoxy unidirectional tape prepreg. The results obtained by testing ten different laminates were compared and analyzed to verify the tensile strength of the open-hole laminates predicted using the proposed stress failure criteria. The findings of this study confirm that the tensile strength predictions performed using the proposed method are generally accurate, except in cases involving highly soft laminates (10% of 0° ply).
