The purpose of this study is to experiment online public access catalog enhancements to improve its subject access capability. Three catalog databases, enhanced with title keywords, controlled vocabulary, and content words with controlled vocabulary respectively, were implemented. 18 searchers performed 2 subject searshes against 3 different catalog databases. And the transaction logs are analyzed. The results of the study can be summarized as follows : Controlled vocabulary catalog database achieved 41.8% recall ratio in average ; the addition of table of contents words to the controlled vocabulary is an effective technique with increasing recall ration upto 55% without decreasing precision ; and the database enhanced with title keywords shows 31.7% recall ratio in average. Of the three kinds of catalog databases, only the catalog with contents words produced 2 unique relevant documents. The results indicate that both user training and system development is required to have better search performance in online public access catalog.

The aims of automation efforts in libraries are the rationalization of interval work and improvement of user services. After a period of exclusive internal computer utilization, later voluntary contact with the computer (e.g., circulation control with self services), patrons of American libraries now have to go to a computer terminal if they want certain information. Online public access catalogs(OPAC) have been used in American libraries since the end of the seventies. But OP AC are accepted by patron only if they have a useful and flexible user interface. This paper briefly describes the use of online catalogs in different type of libraries, categories of user (user, non-user), aspect of catalog use in context with computer experience etc. The disscussion then focuses on the characteristics of the final report of online catalog use study of Council on Library Resources and user problems in searching, as reported in many other catalog use studies.

본 논문은 어린이청소년자료를 검색하고자 하는 이용자의 정보요구를 반영한 검색의 접근점이 온라인목록 구축에 반영되어야 할 필요성을 역설하였다. 예를 들면 이용자 연령, 자료유형, 주제/테마, 소재지, 권장도서, 서평, 수상작 정보 등의 검색접근점은 어린이청소년자료를 위한 온라인목록시스템에 반드시 포함시켜야 할 접근점으로 파악하였다. 국립중앙도서관 KOLIS-NET이 소장하고 있는 어린이청소년자료를 기반으로, 어린이청소년자료 온라인 종합목록시스템 구축방안을 제시하고 있다.

이 연구는 온라인 목록의 화면 설계시 색상, 아이콘, 하나 이상의 간략 서지의 나열 방법, 상세 레코드의 공간적 배치의 네 가지 요소들이 실제로 온라인 목록의 사용성에 영향을 미치는지를 알아 보고자한 것이다. 또한 도서관에서의 정보검색 시스템들 중 온라인 목록의 구축시 탐색의 수행과 관련된 요소와 선호도에 관련된 요소들을 어떻게 조화시켜야 하는지에 관해 고찰한 것이다.

본 연구의 목적은 교수매체로써 그림책을 탐색하고자 하는 초등학교 교사들의 접근점에 대한 요구를 파악하고 학교도서관 DLS(Digital Library System)의 접근점 개선방안을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 국내외 7개 도서관 온라인목록시스템에서 제공하는 접근점을 조사하였다. 그리고 초등학교 교사들을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하여 최종적으로 220개의 응답을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 교사들이 가장 필요로 하는 그림책의 접근점은 주제, 학년/연령, 내용, 교과/단원, 범교과학습주제 등으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 필요성이 높게 나타난 접근점을 DLS의 목록레코드에서 제공하고, 통제어휘집을 개발하고, 시스템의 기능이나 인터페이스를 개선하여 그림책에 대한 접근성을 향상시키는 방안을 제안하였다.

본 연구는 공공도서관 온라인목록에 대한 이용자들의 이용상황과 이용목적, 이용빈도, 이용유형 등의 이용실태를 조사하고 현행 온라인목록 시스템상의 문제점과 개선방안을 제시함으로써 정보이용 서비스의 개선과 새로운 시스템 구축시 이용자 인터페이스를 향상시킬 수 있는 기초자료를 제공하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 연구의 방법과 대상은 온라인목록의 이론정립을 위하여 선행연구를 근거로 한 문헌연구와 온라인목록 이용에 영향을 미치는 제 요인과 이용수준과의 관계를 규명하기 위하여 시민도서관 온라인목록 이용자 308명을 분석대상으로 하여 질문지기법과 면담에 의한 실증연구를 병행하였다.

본 논문은 어린이 자료를 서비스하는 두 개의 영문 서지 정보시스템이 제공하는 접근점과 접근점 제공방식을 분석하여 다양한 정보를 제공하도록 설계된 접근점과 접근점 제공방식을 확인하였다. 분석대상 서지정보시스템으로서 A 공공도서관 목록시스템과 N 어린이소설전문 데이터베이스를 선정하였다. 분석 결과, 이 두 시스템 모두 접근점은 자료의 내적 외적 접근점을 모두 포함하고 있었다. 또한 접근점 제공방식은 키워드 입력뿐만 아니라 이용자에게 부담이 적은 '인식' 단계의 인지활동을 지원하는 브라우즈와 하이퍼링크를 통한 내비게이션 방식을 제공함으로써 이용자와 서지정보시스템간의 '상호작용,' 이용자의 '정보만남,' 그리고 '우연성'을 지원하고 있었다. 본 논문의 결과는 어린이를 대상으로 봉사하는 사서와 시스템개발자들이 어린이를 위한 서지정보시스템 접근점 개발시 참고할 수 있다.

The Ewha Music Database (EMDB) is an online database comprised of primary source materials related to music education from East Asia during the modern era (1880 to 1945) when Korea, Japan, and China were geopolitically and culturally intertwined. We developed the incipit search in EMDB as an embedded tool. This is the first attempt in Korea to implement a unique search function of musical data using alphabets of musical notes. Unlike in traditional search system that uses general literature information search conditions, such as author, title, publisher, year, number of pages, etc., it offers a new way of searching a musical piece/work and sheet music. This study confirms that digital information technology is an important methodology for research of music culture as a field of humanities.

본 연구는 이용자들이 온라인목록을 주제탐색용으로 사용할 때 어떠한 탐색행태특성을 나타내는지를 조사하고자 하였다. 101명에게 한 건의 주제탐색문제를 제시하고 그들의 탐색수행 과정을 관찰하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 주제탐색을 위해 사용한 주요 탐색의 접근점은 주제필드$(55.2\%)$와 서명필드$(42.2\%)$로서 그 차이는 크지 않았다. 2)주제탐색에서의 탐색실패율은 $59.3\%$로 나타났다. 3)탐색실패의 원인은 부적절한 탐색어사용$(0.5\%)$과 불리안논리자를 기용하지 않은$(42.5\%)$ 결과로 들어났다. 4) 탐색실패에 대처하는 방안으로 탐색어변경$(42.0\%)$이나 탐색 대상필드 변경$(33.8\%)$ 방법이 가장 많이 시도되었다.

본 논문에서는 H공공도서관의 도서관 온라인 열람목록(OPAC) 시스템에 구축되어 있는 장서와 대출기록 및 이용자 데이터를 수집하여 이를 분석하고 그 결과를 공공도서관 운영에 적용할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 수집된 자료는 H도서관에서 소장하고 있는 대출이 가능한 단행본 총 57,927권의 서지데이타와 11,871명의 이용자 데이터, 대출기록 27,145건이었다. 대출기록 분석 데이터에서 관계변수로 장서유형, 대출빈도, 대출권수와 대출횟수, 출판년도, 이용요인을 추출하여 상관계수와 비모수검증법 등의 다양한 통계적 기법으로 분석하였다.
