  • Security issues in online games are increasing as the online game industry grows. Real money trading (RMT) by online game users has become a security issue in several countries including Korea because RMT is related to criminal activities such as money laundering or tax evasion. RMT-related activities are done by professional work forces, namely gold-farmers, and many of them employ the automated program, bot, to gain cyber asset in a quick and efficient way. Online game companies try to prevent the activities of gold-farmers using game bots detection algorithm and block their accounts or IP addresses. However, game bot detection algorithm can detect a part of gold-farmer's network and IP address blocking also can be detoured easily by using the virtual private server or IP spoofing. In this paper, we propose a method to detect gold-farmer groups by analyzing their connection patterns to the online game servers, particularly information on their routing and source locations. We verified that the proposed method can reveal gold-farmers' group effectively by analyzing real data from the famous MMORPG.

First, to analyze the market power of the rank 1 and 2 game contents in each genre, using the play time share ratio and standard deviation statistics values in the genre, ANOVA analysis and Cluster analysis were carried out for each genre. According to ANOVA analysis result, in the rank 1 game share ratio in each genre, there was a relationship of 'FPS/Racing > RST/Sports > Poker > Go-stop > RPG > Arcade > Board', and in the play time total share ratio of rank 1 and 2 games, the relationship of 'RTS > FPS/Racing > Sports > RPG > Go-stop > Poker > Arcade > Board' was verified. And in Cluster analysis, the groups of the genres with the degree of market power tendency and the variability at similar level were classified and stated.

  • Investigating the trend of online gamers plays an important role in forecasting, marketing and making policy decision in gaming industry. In this regards, various studies on gamers' trend and characteristics have been conducted. However, these precedent studies show limitation that they're static analysis since they are usually based on the surveys at a certain point. Therefore, this paper aims to identify some implications on forthcoming directions of gaming industry by analyzing dynamic trend of gamers based on the 8 years(from 2002 to 2009) of data from White Paper on Korean Games. Major implications found in this paper are as follows. Negative perception of games increases as the number of gamers increases. Among juveniles, games became a substitute for TV and the amount of time they play games depends on the existence and type of popular games of that time. Also, most item trading is intensively done by a small number of gamers.

  • 3D online game, with its striking realistic value, is leading the entire Korean game market which has various game genres. Technology sharing is very hard within the Korean game industry. That is because 1)there are few professionals, 2)most of the companies are small-scaled, and 3)there are security reasons. Therefore, it should be significant if we have software design techniques which make it possible to reuse the existing code when developing a network game so that we could save a lot of efforts. In this paper, the author analyzes the demand through the case in the client's design of the network game based on DirectX and proposes the effective software design methods for reusable code based on the creative patterns application in the GoF in the class design.

  • Recently, the game industry has been developed in a large scale, and online games and mobile games place significant weight on the game industry. This study demonstrated the results of their content production capability by age those who are randomly selected participants into three groups of elementary school, middle school, and university students to get game content production capability from them. To evaluate content production capability, a short-term training was conducted for elementary school and middle school students, and they produced contents with a little low level of completeness. University students had a long-term training several times more than that of elementary school and middle school students, and they produced contents with a higher level of completeness. This study employed evaluation methods with evaluation criteria of the same number of persons and items. Evaluation scores of 80.5 for elementary school students, 88.3 for middle school students, and 78.3 for university students were demonstrated on the basis of a maximum scale of 100 points. Thus, it is said that if a systemic professional training is performed for them to develop game potentiality from the stage of middle school students, it is possible to raise professional personnel for game content production at an early stage and highly contribute to Nation's Competitiveness.

  • Various lean design and construction methods such as target value design, pull planning, value stream mapping have successfully transformed the commercial building construction industry into achieving improved productivity, higher design and construction quality, and meeting the target values of construction projects. Considering the significant advantages of lean, the accelerated dissemination and adoption of lean methods and tools for construction is highly desirable. Currently, the lean design and construction body of knowledge is imparted primarily through publications and conferences. However, one of the most effective ways to impart this soft knowledge is through getting students and trainees involved in hands-on participatory games, which can quickly help them truly understand the concept and apply it to real-world problems. The COVID-19 Pandemic has raised an urgent need of developing virtual games that can be played simultaneously from various locations over the Internet, but these virtual games should be as effective as in-person games. This research develops an online 3D simulation game for Target Value Design that is as effective as in-person games or possibly better in terms of knowledge capture and retention and enjoyable environment and experience. The virtual game is tested on volunteers using feedback from pre-and post- simulation surveys to evaluate its efficacy.
