Purpose: With the increasing number of polytrauma patients treated at high-level trauma centers, plastic surgery has entered the specialty of traumatology. Plastic surgeons specialize in the simultaneous surgical care of patients with facial or hand trauma and soft tissue injuries requiring microsurgery. The purpose of this study was to introduce the role of plastic surgery in a high-level trauma center. Methods: Between January 2020 and December 2020, 5,712 patients with traumatic injuries were admitted to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital. Of these 5,712 patients, 1,578 patients were hospitalized for surgical treatment and/or critical care. Among the 1,578 hospitalized trauma patients, 551 patients (35%) required at least one plastic surgery procedure. The patient variables included age, sex, etiology, the injured area, and injury characteristics. We also retrospectively investigated surgical data such as the duration of the operation, hospital stay, length of time from injury to surgery, and collaboration with other departments. Results: The most common injury referred to plastic surgery was facial trauma (41%), followed by hand trauma (36%), and soft tissue injuries requiring microsurgery in various parts of the body other than the hand (7%). The majority of facial and hand traumas were concomitant injuries. Sixteen percent of patients underwent collaborative surgical management for polytrauma involving both plastic surgery and another department. Conclusions: The role of plastic surgery in multidisciplinary teams at high-level trauma centers has become increasingly important. The results of this study may help in the development of multidisciplinary trauma team strategies and future workforce planning.
The anterior interosseous artery (AIA) perforator flap is not commonly used in hand dorsum reconstruction compared with alternatives. However, it is a versatile flap with several advantages. Literature on the AIA perforator flap is based on the dorsal septocutaneous branch (DSB), which branches from the AIA and passes through fascia between the extensor pollicis longus (EPL) and extensor pollicis brevis muscles. In the described case, the authors reconstructed a hand dorsum defect in a 78-year-old man using an AIA perforator flap with double perforators supplied by the DSB and a new perforator branching from the distal than DSB. No complication was encountered, and the flap survived completely. A retrospective computed tomography review revealed the presence of the new perforator in 14 of 21 patients. Two types of new perforator were observed. One passed through the ulnar side of the extensor indicis proprius (EIP) muscle and penetrated fascia between the extensor digitorum minimi and extensor digitorum communis tendons, whereas the other passed between the EPL and EIP muscles. This report describes the anatomical location and clinical application of the new AIA perforators. The double perforators-based AIA flap provides a straightforward, reliable means of reconstructing hand dorsum defects.
Calcium ions play an important role in development and intracellular signaling. Dictyostelium discoideum has 14 genes encoding calcium -binding proteins (CBPs), but the function of most CBPs during development has not yet been studied. In this study, we investigated the specific functions of CBP7, one of 14 CBPs, in development using RNA interference cell lines of CBP7, cell lines overexpressing CBP7, cell lines with point mutations in the EF-hand domain, and cell lines expressing fragment proteins. was intended to reveal. CBP7 consists of 169 amino acids and contains 4EF-hand domains. The CBP7-overexpressing cells showed complete loss of developmental process. These cells remained in the single-cell growth stage under development -inducing conditions, while wild-type cells formed aggregations within 6-8h of development and eventually formed fruiting bodies. The experiments using point-mutated CBP7 protein showed that all EF-hand domains of CBP7 were important for CBP7 to function during developmental process. These results suggest that CBP7 plays an important role in developmental processes across all EF-hand domains.

This study intended to evaluate the visual sensibility of textiles of knitting simulation through the painting function of SDS-ONE, a computer knitting system, with the use of various fancy yarns for hand knitting. For this study, six kinds of fancy yarns with difference manufacturing style and form were selected: loop yarn, tamtam yarn, fur1 yarn, fur2 yarn, ladder yarn, and tape yarn. In order to create a computer knitting simulation, paint function of SDS-ONE was employed to scan the fancy yarns for hand knitting with a scanner. Then, after the registration of the yarns as data, the yarn was brought in for knitting simulation in plain stitch with 3 gauge. After that a survey was conducted involving 60 female experts in their twenties. Using SPSS 12.0, factor analysis, reliability, Pearson correlation coefficient, ANOVA, Duncan test, and regression analysis were performed to analyze the collected data. First, according to the result of analyzing the visual sense factor, three factors of the 'inflexibleness/ruggedness sense', 'lightweight sense', and 'smoothness sense' was extracted. According to the result of analyzing the visual sensibility factor, three factors of the 'activity', 'grace', and 'purity' was extracted. Second, With regard to preference and purchase intention, the knitted fabric with tamtam yarn(H2) was preferred than the other samples, indicating that the respondents had intention to purchase it. As for word-of-mouth intention, H2 ranked the first place, implying the respondents had intention to recommend it to other people. Third, the examination of the use of products each knitting simulation knit found that sweater and muffler are the most appropriate knit products. And H2 was the most suitable sample for sweater and muffler products. This study tried to prove that knit textile can be visually evaluated through a computer knitting simulation without the actual knitting and then to provide accurate data to related companies or the academic circle.
Harold Pinter's One for the Road(1984) is a play about violence. Nicholas, who appears to be the manager of a place, interrogates Victor, Nicky, and Victor's wife Gila in a room for one day from morning to night. There is no direct physical violence in this play. But hints about the atrocities that took place outside the stage make the audience guess the violence and cruelty. Violence, which is not seen as such, is the central theme of the play. One for the road is worth reading as a resistance to breaking the mirror of global ideology, not as it deals with violent events confined to Turkey. The problem which Pinter had in mind, in particular, is that the United States plays a leading role in producing world-class ideologies, and that Britain is involved in collusion with the United States in cultivating such ideological fantasies, both abroad and at home. This thesis analyzes the contrasting reactions of each character in the play based on this social context. In particular, the conflicting reactions of the characters on the system are the most important conflict in the drama. Nicolas is a manager who moves on the system without seeing the truth. Victor and his family, on the other hand, do not move within the same ideology as Nicholas. This paper will take a look at what their strategies of resistance is and how they are revealed in the work. In fact, Nicholas appears split. Nicholas seemingly reacted decisively to the interpellation of the system. He expresses his belief and respect for the legitimacy of his actions. However, he has repeatedly sought the respect and love of Victor. Nicholas is now swaying. The theme that Nicholas presents consciously by grabbing at his own sway is 'Patriotism.' But this fantasy splits through Victor's silence and death demands. Therefore, the questions to be answered are: So why does Nicolas appear to be torn apart in a system that directs violence? But why is he forced to assimilate into the system? What other figures imply? To answer these questions, this thesis will take Slavoj Zizek's view of ideology. On the other hand, there are previous studies that read the system of violence in One for the road from the Althusser's perspective. Surely, this play explores the role of Ideological State Apparatus. However, from the point of view of Althusser, it is not possible to read Nicholas's division and the point of resistance seen by Victor's family. Pinter does not limit the scope of the ideological system as a closed one that regenerates ideologies, but secures the domain of main body resistance and struggle. On the other hand, there are already several domestic theses that read Pinter's work in Zizek's perspective. But these theses are mainly focused on analysis of Mountain Language. What this thesis would suggest is that there is a potential for an ethical figure of Zizek to be considered in One for the Road.

Recently immersive virtual reality (VR) becomes popular due to the advanced development of I/O interfaces and related SWs for effectively constructing VR environments. In particular, natural and intuitive manipulation of 3D virtual objects is still considered as one of the most important user interaction issues. This paper presents a comparative study on the manipulation and interaction of 3D virtual objects using different interfaces and interactions in three VR environments. The comparative study includes both quantitative and qualitative aspects. Three different experimental setups are 1) typical desktop-based VR using mouse and keyboard, 2) hand gesture-supported desktop VR using a Leap Motion sensor, and 3) immersive VR by wearing an HMD with hand gesture interaction using a Leap Motion sensor. In the desktop VR with hand gestures, the Leap Motion sensor is put on the desk. On the other hand, in the immersive VR, the sensor is mounted on the HMD so that the user can manipulate virtual objects in the front of the HMD. For the quantitative analysis, a task completion time and success rate were measured. Experimental tasks require complex 3D transformation such as simultaneous 3D translation and 3D rotation. For the qualitative analysis, various factors relating to user experience such as ease of use, natural interaction, and stressfulness were evaluated. The qualitative and quantitative analyses show that the immersive VR with the natural hand gesture provides more intuitive and natural interactions, supports fast and effective performance on task completion, but causes stressful condition.

Purpose: Various types of flaps, with their own advantages and disadvantages, have been described for reconstruction of soft tissue defect with exposure of tendons, bones, or joints in the hand or foot. Local flaps with random vascularity have a limitation by their length. Free flaps are time-consuming procedure that may require the sacrifice of some major vessels. The ideal flap for covering soft tissue defects of the hand or foot must provide subcutaneous tissue that tendons can glide through which, supply enough subcutaneous tissue for cover of vital neural, bony, vascular and joint structures, and it has to be aesthetically pleasing. The adipofascial flap fulfills these criteria. It allows immediate or early closure of difficult wound of hand and foot in an easy way, and is especially indicated for small to medium-sized defects. Methods: From October 2005 to December 2006, seven cases underwent this procedure to reconstruct soft tissue defect on hand or foot. Results: All flaps survived completely, and no complications were observed. Conclusion: The adipofascial flap is a convenient flap for coverage of soft tissue with exposure of vital structure in the hand or foot, and provide several advantages, as following; easy and safe, short operating time, one stage procedure, thinness and good pliability of the flap, preservation of the major vascular pedicles, skin preservation at the donor site, thus preserve the shape of the limb and minimize donor site scar.

We present a framework for 3D hand gesture design and modeling. We adapted two different pattern matching techniques, Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), to support the registration and evaluation of 3D hand gestures as well as their recognition. One key ingredient of our framework is a concept for the convenient gesture design and registration using HMMs. DTW is used to recognize hand gestures with a limited training data, and evaluate how the performed gesture is similar to its template gesture. We facilitate the use of visual sensors and body sensors for capturing both locative and inertial gesture information. In our experimental evaluation, we designed 18 example hand gestures and analyzed the performance of recognition methods and gesture features under various conditions. We discuss the variability between users in gesture performance.

We propose AirPincher, a handheld pointing device for recognizing delicate mid-air hand gestures to control a remote display. AirPincher is designed to overcome disadvantages of the two kinds of existing hand gesture-aware techniques such as glove-based and vision-based. The glove-based techniques cause cumbersomeness of wearing gloves every time and the vision-based techniques incur performance dependence on distance between a user and a remote display. AirPincher allows a user to hold the device in one hand and to generate several delicate finger gestures. The gestures are captured by several sensors proximately embedded into AirPincher. These features help AirPincher avoid the aforementioned disadvantages of the existing techniques. We experimentally find an efficient size of the virtual input space and evaluate two types of pointing interfaces with AirPincher for a remote display. Our experiments suggest appropriate configurations to use the proposed device.

Purpose: This study surveyed how victims with acute traumatic hand injuries received pre-hospital care and how satisfied they were with that care. Method: A total of 100 adults were interviewed using a questionnaire at one microsurgical clinic in Korea. Results: Only 12 patients (12.0%) were transported by the ambulance and the others by private or company's vehicles. Only 9 patients (9.0 %) were able to get appropriate first response from the EMTs or industrial health providers at the scene of the accidents. The mean time required for transportation from the scene of the accident to the operation room of the microsurgical clinic was $372.65{\pm}719.17$ minutes. Most of the patients were satisfied with the pre-hospital care provided by the EMT or industrial health providers but dissatisfied with that provided by lay persons. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that there is a lack in the first response provided at the scene and the activation of EMS (Emergency Medical System) for acute hand injury. It is necessary to educate the public about the appropriate first response and rapid transportation to the appropriate microsurgical clinic.
