In this paper, an algorithm to increase the shift speed is suggested by increasing the line pressure for a metal belt CVT. In order to control the shift speed, an algorithm to calculate the target shift speed is presented from the modified CVT shift dynamics. In applying the shift speed control algorithm, a criterion is proposed to prevent the excessive hydraulic loss due to the increased line pressure. Simulations are performed based on the dynamic models of the hydraulic control valves, powertrain and the vehicle. It is found from the simulation results that performance of the engine operation can be improved by the faster shift speed, which results in the improved fuel economy by 2% compared with that of the conventional electronic control CVT in spite of the increased hydraulic loss due to the increased line pressure.

In this paper, we consider a terminal, linear control system with delay, subject to unknown but bounded disturbances. For this system, we consider the problem of constructing a worst-case optimal feedback control policy, which can be corrected at fixed, intermediate time instants. The policy should guarantee that for all admissible uncertainties the system states are in prescribed neighborhoods of predefined system states, at all fixed, intermediate time instants, and in the neighborhood of a given state at a terminal time instant, and the value of the cost function is the best guaranteed value. Simple explicit rules(which can be easily implemented on-line) for constructing the optimal control policy in the original control problem are derived.
Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) adjustable speed drives offer significant advantages over induction motor drives in a wide variety of industrial applications such as high power density, high efficiency, improved dynamic performance and reliability. This paper proposes on-line efficiency optimization of IPMSM drive using fuzzy logic control(FLC) and the loss minimization method. In order to optimize the efficiency the loss minimization algorithm is developed based on motor model and operating condition. The d-axis armature current is utilized to minimize the losses of the IPMSM in a closed loop vector control environment. The controllable electrical loss which consists of the copper loss and the iron loss can be minimized by the optimal control of the armature current. The minimization of loss is possible to realize efficiency optimization control for the proposed IPMSM. The optimal current can be decided according to the operating speed and the load conditions. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system and the operating characteristics controlled by the loss minimization method and FLC control are examined in detail.
Fuel-consumption and catalyst-out emissions of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle are affected by operating region of an engine. In many researches, It is generally known that it is profitable in fuel- consumption to operate engine in OOL(Optimal Operating Line). We established the mathematical model of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle, which is linear time-invariant. To operate an engine in OOL, we applied RHC(Receding Horizon Control) to the driving control of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle. And it is known that the RHC has advantages such as good tracking performance under state and control constraints. This RHC is obtained by using linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization. In this paper, there are three main topics. First, without state and control constraints, the optimal tracking of OOL was simulated. Second, with state and control constraints by engine and motor performances, the optimal tracking of OOL was simulated. In the last, we studied on the optimal gear ratio. That is to say, we combined the RHC and the iterative simulation to extract the optimal gear ratio. In this simulation, the vehicle is commanded to track the reference vehicle trajectory and the engine is operated in the optimal operating region which is made by the state constraints.

This paper proposed a optimal scale factors technique of a fuzzy-neural network for a load frequency control of two areas power system. The optimal scale factors control technique is optimize from an initial fuzzy logic control rule, and then is learned with an error back propagation learning algorithm of the fuzzy-neural network. In application two areas the load frequency control of the power system, it hopes to have response characteristic better than optimal control technique which is the conventional control technique and to show to minimize a frequency deviation and reaching and settling time of a tie line power flow deviation

In this paper, we proposed a method that optimal values of fuzzy control rule base and quantization of membership function are searched by genetic algorithm. Proposed method searched the optimal values of membership function and control rules using genetic algorithm by off-line. Then fuzzy controller operates using these values by on-line. Proposed fuzzy control system is optimized the control rule base and membership function by genetic algorithm without expert's knowledge. We investigated proposed method through simulation and experiment using DC motor and one link manipulator, and confirmed the following usefulness.

In this paper, engine-CVT consolidated control algorithm was developed. Engine -CVT control strategy suggested uses throttle control based on power difference and CVT ratio control based in CVT ratio map. Simulation results showed that the larger the rate of CVT ratio, the better the engine performance in the optimal operation line. Also, it was found that the engine performance where the magnitude of the acceleration changes abruptly depends on the magnitude of the rate of CVT ratio. Comparing the results of CVT control only without engine control, the engine-CVT control algorithm suggested in this work showed better performance demonstrating that the consolidated control algorithm should be required for the engine optimal operation.
The objective of this study is to predict the minimization effect of the noise and vibration during the construction and the train operation regarding to the design modification of the Taegu Subway Line No. 1. It was suggested optimal control blasting methods to reduce the causing vibration Nuance to the resident in City Taegu and also proposed the better governing method to decrease the environmental hazard to the near buildings and residents during the train operation. When the high-density gaseous reaction of explosion products exerts a high pressure in motion outward, a dynamic stress field will be created in the surrounding buildings. Therefore, in the region close to the charge, permanent damage begins to occur at a great critical level of partial velocity, that is difficult from different structure as working conditions. It is reliable to predict that the damages could be reduced if we know the peak velocity and the exact reasons through the conducting of detail studies of structural analysis of the related buildings with the optimal blasting designs. A blasting technique should be deemed to take advantage of the reduction of damage of the surrounding rocks and structures to improve the in-city blasting. This is a typical in-city blasting operation where success depends on closely controlling the ground vibrations in case of better designed blasting methods. There are techniques that can be applied to prevent large vibrations from damaging the important buildings through the Route Modification of the Taegu Subway Line No. 1.

This research focused on deciding optimal manufacturing WIP (Work-In-Process) limit for a small production system. Reducing WIP leads to stable capacity, better manufacturing flow and decrease inventory. WIP is the one of the important issue, since it can affect manufacturing area, like productivity and line efficiency and bottlenecks in manufacturing process. Several approaches implemented in this research. First, two strategies applied to decide WIP limit. One is roulette wheel selection and the other one is elite strategy. Second, for each strategy, JIT (Just In Time), CONWIP (Constant WIP), Gated Max WIP System and CWIPL (Critical WIP Loops) system applied to find a best material flow mechanism. Therefore, pull control system is preferred to control production line efficiently. In the production line, the WIP limit has been decided based on mathematical models or expert's decision. However, due to the complexity of the process or increase of the variables, it is difficult to obtain optimal WIP limit. To obtain an optimal WIP limit, GA applied in each material control system. When evaluating the performance of the result, fitness function is used by reflecting WIP parameter. Elite strategy showed better performance than roulette wheel selection when evaluating fitness value. Elite strategy reach to the optimal WIP limit faster than roulette wheel selection and generation time is short. For this reason, this study proposes a fast and reliable method for determining the WIP level by applying genetic algorithm to pull system based production process. This research showed that this method could be applied to a more complex production system.

As competition is introduced in the electricity supply industry, congestion becomes a more important issue. Congestion in a transmission network occurs due to an operating condition that causes limit violations on the transmission capacities. Congestion leads to inefficient use of the system, or causes additional costs (Congestion cost). One way to reduce this inefficiency or congestion cost is to control the transmission flow through the installation of UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller). This paper also deals with an optimal siting of the UPFC for reducing congestion cost by using shadow prices. A performance index for an optimal siting is defined as a combination of line flow sensitivities and shadow prices. The proposed algorithm is applied to the sample system with a condition, which is concerning the quadratic cost functions. Test results show that the siting of the UPFC is optimal to minimize the congestion cost by the proposed algorithm.
