A Performance Monitoring Method for Combined Cycle Power Plants (복합화력 성능감시 정량화 기법)

  • This paper outlines how the on-line performance monitoring system can be used to improve the efficiency and maintenance of the equipments. And a method of the heat rate allocation to each equipment was suggested to monitor the performance of combined cycle power plants. This calculates the expected heat rate of current conditions and compares it with actual values. Loss allocation in heat rate is reconciled by calculating the magnitude of the deficiency contributed by major components, such as the gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, steam turbine and condenser. Expected power output is determined by a detailed model and correction curves of the plant. This simulation models are found to reproduce high accuracy in behavior of the cycle for various operating conditions, both in design and in off-design condition. Errors are lower than 2% in most cases.

Development of an In-process Confocal Positioning System for Nanostereolithography Using Evanescent Light

  • A novel stereolithography method using evanescent light has been proposed as a means to realize 100-nanometer resolution. An in-process measurement system with high accuracy has been introduced to the nanostereolithography apparatus. Specifically, an optical microscopic system was developed to monitor the exposure process and a confocal positioning system was established to improve the longitudinal positioning accuracy in the layer-by-layer process. A high-power objective lens, a tube lens, and a charge coupled device (CCD) were included in the optical microscopic system, whereas a laser, a high-power objective lens, a piezoelectric (PZT) stage, a condenser lens, a pinhole, and a photomultiplier (PMT) made up the confocal microscopic system. Two verification experiments were conducted, and the results indicated that the optical microscopic system had a horizontal resolution of 200 nm and that the confocal positioning system provided a depth resolution of 30.8 nm. These results indicate that nanostereolithography can be successfully performed with this system.

  • Sodium hypochlorite is used worldwide as a water disinfectant and in bleaching agent. Sodium hypochlorite applied to water initially undergoes hydrolysis to form free chlorine consisting of hypochlorous acid(HOCl) and hypochlorite ion($OCl^-$). For free chlorine determination, an electrochemical method is simple due to the electroactivity of free chlorine; it measures current and is free of most reagents. Amperometric free chlorine sensor has been developed with gold (Au)-based electrode. The 3-electrode free chlorine sensor whose working and counter electrodes were Pt exhibited excellent response to HClO at +400mV vs. Ag/AgCl/sat. KCl. In addition, the use of a pH error correction algorithm provided a reliable measurement of residual free chlorine in water sample without any pretreatment in the normal pH range(pH 6~8) of municipal water supply. The free chlorine sensor installed in on-line monitoring system could be used to continually monitor the level of residual free chlorine in real samples.

  • Along with the rapid emergence of the Internet and e-commerce, online auctions are hitting the spotlights. The inconveniences found in off-line auctions, such as time and place restriction and limited number of items, are solved in the online auction. However, not so many auction sites have integrated auction information systems, which monitor the present status of auctions, resulting in greater inconvenience for the online auction users. Moreover, there is no auction site that suggests the appropriate starting or closing price that is useful for users when they make, their bids, What the online auction users need is an auction system that can solve such problems. This study is purported for solving the problems by designing and implementing a real time auction system that applies the comparison search functions and the agent functions. In other words, an integrated database system using a bidder-oriented agent for providing information is built so that the users can search and compare the information on the item they are interested in and make a faster and more accurate purchase. Also the appropriate starting and closing prices are offered to the sellers and bidders through the integrated system for a closer and more accurate comparison and analysis of the prices. For future work, the product recommendation service, which accurately reflects the bidding patterns, and the methods for studying the multi bidding pattern will be applied to the suggested system to realize a real time auction information system that supports CRM(Customer Relationship Management) .

  • The catenaries must guarantee the constant electricity to the trains, so that the safety and the estimate of fatigue degree and the inspection of abrasion degree should be done rapidly. This thesis proposes the system that can manage the performance/failure of the catenaries using the image process as the solution for the weak points of the existing inspection such as the decrease of immediateness and the lack of constancy in the human resources. This study simulates the ALD using VHSV (Virture HSV) which is the unreal HSV images, not getting the real HSV in ages to the image processing technique that repeats the erosion and the expansion of the images as the methods that can monitor the slight/critical defects of the catenaries as dealing with the result of the catenaries inspection images. The final ALD (Abnormal Line Detection) system is designed based on this simulation. I have demonstrated it with the VHSV (Virture HSV) virtual images as the materials of the test and inspected it through testing the defects of the catenaries for the thesis.

  • Abnormal operating sounds radiated from a moving transfer robot in LCD (liquid crystal display) product lines have been used for the fault detection line of a robot instead of other source signals such as vibrations, acoustic emissions, and electrical signals. Its advantage as a source signal makes it possible to monitor the status of multiple faults by using only a microphone, despite a relatively low sensitivity. The wavelet packet transform for feature extraction and the artificial neural network for fault classification are employed. It can be observed that the abnormal operating sound is sufficiently useful as a source signal for the fault diagnosis of mechanical components as well as other source signals.

  • A PFA lined ball valve, which is machined with fluorinated resin PFA to its inner part for improving corrosion resistance, non-stickness, heat-resistance, has been widely used to the chemical/pharmaceutical industries, the semiconductor/LCD manufacturing processes, etc. with the high purity chemicals as working fluid. EPA stated that 60% of all fugitive emissions come from the valve stem packing in a typical petroleum or chemical processing plant. They monitor regulated components for leaks and maintain seal performance at acceptable levels. Korean industrial standards only deals with the bubble test for in-line leakage of valves, which has the detectable leak rate of $10^{-4}$ [$mbar{\cdot}L{\cdot}s^{-1}$], therefore, it is not sufficient to check fugitive emissions. In this study, we conducted Helium leak detection from a PFA lined ball valve and evaluated fugitive emissions according to ISO 15848-1, which has the detectable leak rate of $10^{-9}$ [$mbar{\cdot}L{\cdot}s^{-1}$], for manufacturing the high-reliable PFA lined ball valves against fugitive emissions.

  • The partial discharge detecting method using the ultrasonic technique has been investigated to monitor the insulation ageing of a transformer. However, the result of the studies on the ultrasonic technique for detecting of partial discharge in the operating transformer is not enough yet to utilize. This paper presents the analysis of the ultrasonic signals due to the partial discharge in a model transformer and the corona in air at a shielded high voltage room. In addition, the ultrasonic signals due to the vibration from the core, operation of the cooling pump, the fan and the OLTC at the 345㎸ power transformer, were analyzed and corona noise from overhead transmission line in 345㎸ substation were measured to remove the electrical and mechanical noises from the transformer. Furthermore, ultrasonic signal due to the partial discharge in the 154㎸ power transformer with in $C_2$$H_2$ gas warning condition was measured. The inside of the transformer was examined with care. which confirms the existence of the partial discharge source.

  • An automated reaction calorimeter was used to directly monitor the rate of emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVAs) having different degrees of blockiness. By using this technique in conjunction with other off-line measurements of the evolution of particle size distributions, important details of the process were observed. No constant graft rate period was observed for both low and high initial monomer-water ratios. The gel effect was observed for the low monomer-water ratio recipe. The particle size distributions were broad (particle diameter 40~100 nm) and bimodal. Continuous nucleation was observed to be accompanied by 'limited aggregation' and flocculation during the particle growth stages. It was speculated to be due to the occurrence of the extensive 'limited aggregation' and chain transfer to PVA leading to grafting.

  • The lightning arrester is a very important overvoltage protection device in the electric power system. Therefore, the inspection of lightning arrester whether it keeps its performance or not properly has close related to verifying the safety confidence of the electric power system. But the development of the deterioration measuring method and on-line detecting system, is necessary to monitor the deterioration of the lightening arrestor. In this paper, we developed the lightning arrester degradation monitoring system. This system detected leakage current of lightning arrester by using the ZCT, and analyze the third harmonics ingredient of leakage current using DFT method in the Data Acquisition Unit(DAU). The analyzed current signal is transmit to the Human-Machine Interface(HMI), and HMI alarmed when accident are occurred and informed with the amplitude of leakage current to the operator.
