A Method for Estimating an Instantaneous Phasor Based on a Modified Notch Filter

  • A method for estimating the instantaneous phasor of a fault current signal is proposed for high-speed distance protection that is immune to a DC-offset. The method uses a modified notch filter in order to eliminate the power frequency component from the fault current signal. Since the output of the modified notch filter is the delayed DC-offset, delay compensation results in the same waveform as the original DC-offset. Subtracting the obtained DC-offset from the fault current signal yields a sinusoidal waveform, which becomes the real part of the instantaneous phasor. The imaginary part of the instantaneous phasor is based on the first difference of the fault current signal. Since a DC-offset also appears in the first difference, the DC-offset is removed trom the first difference using the results of the delay compensation. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated for a-phase to ground faults on a 345kV 100km overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program was utilized to generate fault current signals for different fault locations and fault inception angles. The performance evaluation showed that the proposed method can estimate the instantaneous phasor of a fault current signal with high speed and high accuracy.

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for a realistic force feedback in a remote environment with varying communication time-delay. The remote environment is assumed as a virtual environment based on a computer graphics, for example, on-line shopping mall, internet game and cyber-education. The properties of a virtual object such as stiffness and viscosity are assumed to be unknown because they are changed according to the contact position and/or a penetrated depth into the object. The DARMAX model based output estimator is proposed to trace the correct impedance of the virtual object in real-time. The output estimator is developed on the input-output relationship. It can trace the varying impedance in real-time by virtue of P-matrix resetting algorithm. And the estimator can trace the correct impedance by using a white noise that prevents the biased input-output information. Realistic output forces are generated in real-time, by using the inputs and the estimated impedance, even though the communication time delay and the impedance of the virtual object are unknown and changed. The generated forces trace the analytical forces computed from the virtual model of the remote environment. Performance is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof haptic device and a spring-damper-based virtual model.

Application of recursive SSA as data pre-processing filter for stochastic subspace identification

  • The objective of this paper is to develop on-line system parameter estimation and damage detection technique from the response measurements through using the Recursive Covariance-Driven Stochastic Subspace identification (RSSI-COV) approach. To reduce the effect of noise on the results of identification, discussion on the pre-processing of data using recursive singular spectrum analysis (rSSA) is presented to remove the noise contaminant measurements so as to enhance the stability of data analysis. Through the application of rSSA-SSI-COV to the vibration measurement of bridge during scouring experiment, the ability of the proposed algorithm was proved to be robust to the noise perturbations and offers a very good online tracking capability. The accuracy and robustness offered by rSSA-SSI-COV provides a key to obtain the evidence of imminent bridge settlement and a very stable modal frequency tracking which makes it possible for early warning. The peak values of the identified $1^{st}$ mode shape slope ratio has shown to be a good indicator for damage location, meanwhile, the drastic movements of the peak of $2^{nd}$ mode slope ratio could be used as another feature to indicate imminent pier settlement.

  • To improve control performance of a non-linear system, many other reserches have used the sliding model control algorithm. The sliding mode controller is known to be robust against nonlinear and unmodeled dynamic terms. However, this algorithm raises the inherent chattering caused by excessive switching inputs around the sliding surface. Therefore, in order to solve the chattering problem and improve control performance, this study has developed the sliding mode controller with a perturbation estimator using the observer-based fuzzy adaptive network. The perturbation estimator based on the fuzzy adaptive network generates the control input of compensating unmodeled dynamics terms and disturbance. And the weighting parameters of the fuzzy adaptive network are updated on-line by adaptive law in order to force the estimation errors converge to zero. Therefore, the combination of sliding mode control and fuzzy adaptive network gives rise to the robust and intelligent routine. For evaluation control performance of the proposed approach, tracking control simulation is carried is carried out for the hydraulic motion simulator which is a 6-degree of freedom parallel manipulator.

Analysis of Infiltration Area using Prediction Model of Infiltration Risk based on Geospatial Information (지형공간정보 기반의 침투위험도 예측 모델을 이용한 최적침투지역 분석)

  • A simple and effective analysis method is presented for predicting the best infiltration area. Based on geospatial information, numerical estimation barometer for degree of infiltration risk has been derived. The dominant geospatial features influencing infiltration risk have been found to be area altitude, degree of surface gradient, relative direction of surface gradient to the surveillance line, degree of surface gradient repetition, regional forest information. Each feature has been numerically expressed corresponding to the degree of infiltration risk of that area. Four different detection probability maps of infiltration risk for the surveillance area are drawn on the actual map with respect to the numerically expressed five dominant factors of infiltration risks. By combining the four detection probability maps, the complete picture of thr best infiltration area has been drawn. By using the map and the analytic method the effectiveness of surveillance operation can be improved.

  • Existing area-based stereo algorithms rely heavily on rectangular windows for computing correspondence. While the algorithms with the rectangular windows are efficient, they generate relatively large matching errors due to variations of disparity profiles near depth discontinuities and doesnt take into account local deformations of the windows due to projective distortion. In this paper, in order to deal with these problems, a new correlation function with 4 directional line masks, based on robust estimator, is proposed for the selection of potential matching points. These points is selected to consider depth discontinuities and reduce effects on outliers. The proposed matching method finds an arbitrarily-shaped variable window around a pixel in the 3d array which is constructed with the selected matching points. In addition, the method take into account the local deformation of the variable window with a constant disparity, and perform the estimation of sub-pixel disparities. Experiments with various synthetic images show that the proposed technique significantly reduces matching errors both in the vicinity of depth discontinuities and in continuously smooth areas, and also does not be affected drastically due to outlier and noise.

Estimation of Soft Ground Characteristics using the Piezo-Cone Penetration Tests(CPTu) on Honam High-Speed Railway Planning Line (호남고속철도 계획노선에서의 피에조콘 관입시험(CPTu)에 의한 연약지반 특성 평가)

  • Piezocone penetration testing(CPTu) results such as cone resistance$(q_c)$, sleeve friction$(f_s)$, and pore pressure(u), have been carried out at 5 sites in Honam high-speed railway areas of Korea, in order to continuously estimate the characteristics of soil layers and the undrained shear strength$(S_u)$ in a soft ground. For the applications of the conventional CPTu results to undrained shear strength, the cone factors$(N_{kt})$ were deduced based on Field vane tests, and Monte-Carlo Simulation(MCS). Moreover the correlations of the undrained shear strength of CPTu by soil depths were compared and revised with the results of triaxial compression(UU test), field vane and Dilatometer tests(DMT). The depths of soft foundation at 5 sites in Honam high-speed railway areas were calculated based on the results of the various field tests in addition CPTu. The applicability of CPTu for a soft foundation criterion referred to the criteria of high-speed railway and related agencies in Korea was evaluated.

  • This paper describes the far-field estimation using the near-field measurement data. Measurement in far-field region gives us the acoustical characteristics of the source but in general measurement is made in near-field such as acoustic water tank or anechoic chamber, so far-field acoustical characteristics of the source should be predicted from near-field data. In this case, the number of measurement points in the near field which relates to the accuracy of the predicted field and the amount of data processing, should be optimized. Existing papers say that measurement points is proportional to kL and depends on geometry and directivity of the source. But they do not give us any definite criterion for the required number of measurement points. Boundary Collocation Method which is one of the far-field prediction methods, is analyzed based on Helmholtz integral equation and Green function and it has been found that the number of measurement points is optimized as 0.54kL which is about one half of the existing results.

Prediction of Turbidity in Treated Water and the Estimation of the Optimum Feed Concentration of Coagulants in Rapid Mixing Process using an Artificial Neural Network Model (인공신경망 모형을 이용한 급속혼화공정에서 적정 응집제 주입농도 결정 및 응집처리후 탁도의 예측)

  • The training and prediction modeling using an artificial neural network was implemented to predict the turbidity of treated water as well as to estimate the optimized feed concentration of polyaluminium chloride (PACl) in a water treatment plant. The parameters used in the input layers were pH, temperature, turbidity and alkalinity, while those in output layers were PACl and turbidity of treated water. Levenberg-Marquadt method of feedforward back-propagation perceptron in the neural network toolbox of MATLAB program was used in this study. Correlation coefficients of the training data with the measured data were 0.9997 for PACl and 0.6850 for turbidity and those of the testing data with measured data were 0.9140 for PACl and 0.3828 for turbidity, when four parameters at input layer, 12-12 nodes each at both the first and the second hidden layers, and two parameters(PACl and turbidity) at output layer were used. Although the predictability of PACl was improved, compared to that of the previous studies to use the only coagulant dose as output layer, turbidity in treated water could not be predicted well. Acquisition of more data through several years obtained with the advanced on-line measuring system could make the artificial neural network useful and practical in actual water treatment plants.

  • Railway curved zone have crucial effects on the speed of train. Length of transition curve is one of the important factor for alignment compatibility estimation in this sections, this value is decided by running speed and Cant. In this study, the extension method of transition curve is evaluated, based on the alignment of Jang Hang-Line, investigated field conditions of the sections in the curves exist. This research result show that changing of transition curve was proved by necessary to approximately two thirds of the curved sections, and method of fixing central point of track centerline and changing radius of curvature minimize the maximum shift in track centerline and deviation of radius, and also may be effective method for alignment suitability and speed up in case overall improvement is difficult.
