This study is conducted to determine the effects of dietary source of $\omega$3 fatty acids on preneoplastic foci and the glutathione dependent enzymes in rat hepatocarcinogenesis initiated by diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed one of three diets containing 10% (w/w) fats fixed p/s = -1.0 and $\omega$6/$\omega$3 ratio = -0.4 or 4.0 ; fish oil-com oil blended (FC), com oil-beef tallow-fish oil blended (CF), com oil-beef tallow-perilla oil blended (CP), from gestation period. At 10 weeks, animals of experimental groups were injected intraperitoneally with DEN (200 mg/kg body weight) and two-thirds partial hepatectomy was carried out 3 weeks later and were sacrificed 8 weeks after DEN initiation. The area and number of glutathione S-transferase placenta (GST-P) positive foci were significantly decreased in rats fed diets containing fish oil (FC and CF) than those fed perilla oil diet (CP). Fish oil feeding significantly increased the activities of glutathione dependent enzymes. Rats fed diets containing fish oil (FC and CF) significantly increased the glutathione (GSH) content and the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), and glutathione S-transferase (GST). Glutathione dependent enzymes had significantly negative correlation with GST-P positive foci. Glucose 6-phosphatase (G6Pase) was increased in rats feeding fish oil. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances were not different among groups. Therefore, the preventive effect against hepatocarcinogenesis might be explained by induction of the glutathione dependent enzymes and G6Pase. (Korean J Nutrition 36(8): 785∼792, 2003)
Absorption spectra were observed for several Ho(III)-ligand systems in aqueous solution under the changes of ligand concentration and temperature. The intensity change of hypersensitive band $(^5I_8\;\to\;^5G_6)$ was quite remarkable with temperature and concentration, and was interpreted as the change of coordination environments. The transition intensities observed in these spectra were analyzed in terms of the Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters, $\Omega_\lambda$ ($\lambda$ = 2, 4, 6), for 4f $\to$ 4f electric dipole transitions. The $\Omega_2$ parameter was the most sensitive to the temperature and concentration. Using the changes of $\Omega_2$, $Cl^-$ and ${NO_3}^-$ ions were found to form inner sphere complexes in aqueous solution.

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the impact of nonsurgical periodontal treatment combined with one-year dietary supplementation with omega (${\omega}$)-3 on the serum levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), and arachidonic acid (AA). Methods: Fifteen patients with chronic generalized periodontitis were treated with scaling and root planing. The test group consisted of seven patients ($43.1{\pm}6.0$ years) supplemented with ${\omega}$-3, consisting of EPA plus DHA, three capsules, each of 300 mg of ${\omega}$-3 (180-mg EPA/120-mg DHA), for 12 months. The control group was composed of eight patients ($46.1{\pm}11.6$ years) that took a placebo capsule for 12 months. The periodontal examination and the serum levels of DPA, EPA, DHA, and AA were performed at baseline (T0), and 4 (T1), and 12 (T2) months after therapy. Results: In the test group, AA and DPA levels had been reduced significantly at T1 (P<0.05). AA and EPA levels had been increased significantly at T2 (P<0.05). The ${\Delta}EPA$ was significantly higher in the test compared to the placebo group at T2-T0 (P=0.02). The AA/EPA had decreased significantly at T1 and T2 relative to baseline (P<0.05). Conclusions: Nonsurgical periodontal treatment combined with ${\omega}$-3 supplementation significantly increased the EPA levels and decreased the AA/EPA ratio in serum after one year follow-up. However, no effect on the clinical outcome of periodontal therapy was observed.
The Korean daily intake of vegetable oils has increased about 2.5-fold from 17 g/day to 46 g/day for the last several decades. Perilla (Perilla frutescens var. frutescens) has been cultivated in Korea for a long time as a dietary oil seed which has the highest content of ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid, accounting for nearly 60%. It is known that the main role of ALA is as a precursor to the longer-chain ${\omega}-3$, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the metabolic products of ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid (ALA, ${\omega}-3$). Dietary ${\omega}-3$ fatty acids reduce inflammation and the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and arthritis, but they also may act as functional components for cognitive and behavioral function. Thus, ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid is one of the essential nutrients in modern dietary patterns in which much linoleic acid is consumed. Nevertheless, perilla oil, rich in ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid, can be easily oxidized, giving rise to controversies with respect to shelf life, the deterioration of the product's commercial value, and further related toxicity. Recent research using genetic modifications has tried to develop new plant oil seeds that balance the ratio of ${\omega}-6/{\omega}-3$ fatty acids. Such trials could be a strategy for improving an easily oxidizable property of perilla oil due to high ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid. Alternatively, appropriate application of antioxidant to the oil can be considerable.
This paper examined the structure, fire resistance of brass fittings type CSST employed in gas appliances and the reliability verification. Brass fittings of type CSST consisted of cladding, tubing, nut, clamp ring, socket, and ball valve. The applicable JIA standard regulates the maximum working pressure to be 4.2 kPa, which is the highest pressure of the relevant standards and the KS D 3625 stipulates the maximum pressure to be 3.24 kPa. With a normal product, the average resistance within the confidence interval was found to be $7.36m{\Omega}$. The average resistance within the confidence interval was $6.67m{\Omega}$ after the fire resistance tests. The analysis indicated that the AD was 1.584 and the standard deviation was 0.3972 with respect of a normal product. Compared to the normal product, however, the damaged product after the fire resistance test showed better features, such as an AD of 1.145 and a standard deviation of 0.2467. Moreover, the average resistance of the normal product was $7.359m{\Omega}$ and the standard deviation in histogram analysis was 0.3972. The average resistance of the damaged product after the fire resistance test in the histogram was $6.67m{\Omega}$ and the standard deviation was 0.2467.
We construct exponentially fitted interpolation formulas using the values of the ${\omega}$-dependent function $f$ as well as its derivatives up to the $n$th order at a finite number of nodes on a closed interval ${\Omega}$. The function $f$ is of the form, $$f(x)=f_1(x)cos({\omega}x)+f_2(x)sin({\omega}x),x{\in}{\Omega}$$, where $f_1$ and $f_2$ are smooth enough to be approximated by polynomials on ${\Omega}$. Some properties of the formulas are newly found. The properties are numerically investigated and reexamined by producing some figures.

Both ratio error and phase angle error in voltage transformer(VT) depend on values of burden of VT used. A method of evaluation for linearity of ratio error and phase angle error in VT measurement equipment have been developed using the standard resistance burdens, with negligible AC-DC resistance difference less than $10^-6$. These burden consists of five standard resistors, with nominal resistance of 100 $\Omega$, 1 k$\Omega$, 10 k$\Omega$, 100 k$\Omega$, and 1 M$\Omega$. The developed method has been applied in VT measurement equipment of industry and the validity of the developed method has been verified by showing the consistency of the result of linearity obtained using VT with wide ratio error.
Eight of the individuals had a unilateral S-RAD TKA and Multi-Radius TKA ($Scorpio^{TM}$ PS, Howmedica-Osteonics, Inc.). The instrument were used Peak Motion Measurement $System^{TM}$, $MYOPAC^{TM}$EMG System, KIN-COM $III^{TM}$ System. The Figure 3 shows that the average time for the S-RAD group to accomplish the sit-to-stand movement was 1.59 s, which was 0.19 s less than the M-RAD group (p= 0.033). In Figure 5, the S-RAD TKA group tended to have $7^{\Omega}{\cdot}S^{-1}$ less trunk flexion velocity than that of the M-RAD group (p= 0.058). The Figure 6 shows that the S-RAD TKA limb tended to have less ADD displacement (p = 0.071) than that of the M-RAD TKA limb. We failed to find significant differences for ABD and ADD displacements between the S-RAD and M-RAD N-TKA limbs (p= 0.128 and 0.457, respectively). The VM of the S-RAD TKA limb demonstrated significant less RMS EMG than that of the M-RAD TKA limb from $60^{\Omega}$ to $15^{\Omega}$ of knee flexion (p 0.05). The VL of the S-RAD TKA limb also demonstrated significant less RMS EMG than that of the M-RAD TKA limb from $60^{\Omega}$ to $45^{\Omega}$ of knee flexion (p 0.05). Similar to the VM and VL, the RF of the S-RAD TKA limb showed less RMS EMG than that of the M-RAD TKA limb from $60^{\Omega}$ to $30^{\Omega}$ of knee flexion (p 0.05).
Effects of dietary fatty acids and vitamin E on antioxidant vitamin status were studied in rat brain sections. Sources of dietary fat(10t%) were safflower oil(SO) poor in $\omega$3 fatty acid and mixed oil (MO) with computer-adjustd fatty acid ratios(AA/DHA=1.4, $\omega$6/$\omega$3=6.3, P/M/S=1.0/1.5/1, AA=2.%)with (ME) and without(MO) vitamin E(500mg/kg diet). Rats were fed the three kinds of diet from 3-4 wks prior to the conception. At the age of 3 & 9wks of the 2nd generation rat, antioxidant vitamins were measured in frontal cortex(FC), corpus striatum (CS), cerebellum(CB) and hippocampus(HP) using a multiwavelength, reverse phase gradient HPLC system. The levels of antioxidant vitamins converged to the similar value in all groups at 9 wks of age. Retinol, lycopene and cryptoxanthin levels of all experimental groups were found to be the highest in hippocampus at both 3 & 9wks of age. The levels of vitamin E appeared to be higher in the order of HP>CS-CB>FC in MO & ME. Beta-carotene and retinol showed the lowest level in hippocampus of vitamin E supplemented groups, even though vitamin E level tended to be higher in other sections. It seemed that vitamin E has an inhibitory action on the uptake of beta-carotene or acts as a preferred antioxidant to beta-carotene in certain section of the brain. By improving fatty acid balance (AA/DHA = 1.4, $\omega$6/$\omega$3=6.3, P/M/S=1.0/1.5/1, AA = 2%), the levels of vitamin E, retinol, lycopene & beta=carotene tended to be higher in MO than in SO, although crytoxanthin became lower at 3wks of age. In short, dietary fatty acids and vitamin E have different influence on antioxidant vitamin status in different rat brain sections. The higher levels of antioxidant vitamins in hippocampus should be pursued further in relation to behavioral development of rats.

Indium tin oxide, which is used as transparent conducting layer in flexible device, is deposited on PET film by a magnetron sputtering in 300 mm wide roll-to-roll process (vacuum web coating). Sheet resistance, specific resistance and transmittance is differed by sputtering parameters such as working pressures, oxygen partial pressure, and thickness of ITO layer. ITO layer is deposited about 90 nm at roll speed of 0.24 m/min and its sputtering power is 3 kW. From the XRD spectrum deposited ITO layer is verified as amorphous. Under working pressure varied from $3{\times}10^{-4}\;Torr$ to $2{\times}10^{-3}\;Torr$, sheet resistance is lowest at the working pressure of $1{\times}10^{-3}\;Torr$ and its value is from $110\;{\Omega}/{\square}$ to $260\;{\Omega}/{\square}$ at the thickness of 90 nm. Oxygen partial pressure also varies sheet resistance and is optimized at the regime from 0.2% ($1.8{\times}10^{-6}\;Torr$) to 0.6% ($6{\times}10^{-6}\;Torr$). In this oxygen partial pressure sheet resistance is lower than $150\;{\Omega}/{\square}$. As ITO layer thickness increases, sheet resistance decreases down to $21\;{\Omega}/{\square}$ and specific resistance is about $7.5{\times}10.4{\Omega}cm$ in 340 nm thickness ITO layer. Transmittance is measured at the wavelength of 550 nm and is about 90% for 180 nm thickness ITO/PET.
