A internal lobe pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications. In particular, the pump is an essential machine element of an automotive engine to feed lubricant oil. The subject of this paper is the theoretical analysis of internal lobe pump whose the main components are the rotors: usually the outer one is characterized by lobes with circular shape, while the inner rotor profile is determined as conjugate to the other. The topic of this paper is the design of a new rotor, which is based on specific performance as different types depending on the shape of the lobe of the outer rotor. First, the design of internal lobe pumps with circular, elliptical, and their combined lobe profiles is considered. The latter is a new type of lobe profile with special shape whose curvature follows a definite function. Then we introduce the performance indexes used for the comparison. Some of these indexes, such as flow rate and flow rate irregularity, are commonly used for the comparison, while specific slipping is particularly suitable in this case. It is possible to notice that the circular and elliptical type is comparable to the circular one or the elliptical one in terms of flow rate irregularity, but has improved performance in terms of specific slipping. Results obtained from the analysis enable the designer and manufacturer of oil pump to be more efficient in this field.

These experiments were conducted to evaluate the nutritional and feeding value of red pepper seed oil meal (RPSOM) as local vegetable protein ingredients for poultry feeding. In the first experiment, nutritional values of RPSOM were evaluated by analyzing chemical compositions and determining true metabolizable energy (TME), nitrogen corrected TME (TMEn) and true available amino acid (TAAA) contents. According to the chemical analysis, RPSOM contained 22.50% of crude protein, 4.75% of ether extract, 27.70% of crude fiber, 0.34 mg/g of capsaicin and 49.97 ppm of xanthophylls. The values of TME and TMEn determined by force-feeding 16 roosters (ISA-Brown) were 1.73 kcal/g and 1.63 kcal/g on dry matter basis, respectively. The average TAAA value of 16 amino acids measured by the force-feeding technique was 81.70%. These values were used for formulating experimental diets containing various levels of RPSOM for broiler chicks and laying hens. Two feeding trials were made to investigate the effects of dietary incorporation of RPSOM into chicken feed performances of broiler chicks and laying hens. In the broiler feeding (Exp. 2), a total of two hundred twenty-five, 4 wk old male broiler chicks (Ross) were randomly divided into 9 groups of 25 birds each and assigned to three experimental diets containing 0, 5 and 10% RPSOM. The birds were fed ad libitum the diets for 3 wk and feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion rate were determined. At the end of the feeding, the blood levels of glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and cholesterol, and the body and fatty acid compositions of leg muscle were measured. No significant differences were observed in weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion rate, body composition, serum levels of GOT, GGT and BUN among the treatments. However, blood cholesterol level was lower (P<0.05) in 10% RPSOM diet group than those in the other. The dietary RPSOM at 5 and 10% levels increased the content of linoleic acid (P<0.05) in leg muscle compared to that of control group. The results indicate that RPSOM can be used for broiler feed up to 10% without any significant negative effects on broiler performance. In the layer feeding (Exp. 3), the effects of dietary RPSOM on the performances of laying hen were investigated by feeding ninety 45 wk old laying hens (ISA-Brown) with experimental diets containing 0, 5 and 10% RPSOM for 4 wk (30 birds per treatment). Measurements were made on egg production rate, egg weight, feed intake, Haugh unit, egg shell strength which was higher (P<0.05) in layers fed 10% RPSOM diet compared to those fed 0 and 5% RPSOM diets. Thus, it can be concluded that RPSOM can be included into laying hen feed up to 10% without any harmful effects.

A 12-w feeding trial was conducted with 600 38-wk-old layers to evaluate the nutritive value of high oil corn(HOC) in layer diets. For the control, a commercial corn-soybean meal basal diet was used. An iso-calorie diet(HOC-ISO) was prepared replacing corn with HOC in the control diet. In addition a third diet was prepared by simply replacing corn with HOC on 1:1 basis to give a high energy diet(HOC-1:1). There were 5 replicates per treatment, and 40 birds per replicate. Birds were housed in an open-sided layer house equipped with wire cages. Feed and water were provided ad libitum, and 17L:7D lighting program was adopted. No significant difference (P>0.05) was found among dietary treatments in laying performance. Also physical qualities of eggs were not significantly affected by the feeding of HOC. Although not significant, HOC-ISO tended to improve the laying rate during the summer. The HOC feeding significantly increased the polyunsaturated fatty acids contents in egg yolk, especially the linoleic acid The AME contents of Chinese yellow corn, U.S. corn, and HOC were 3177, 3158 and 3387 kcal/kg respectively.
Effect of dietary essential oils on growth, feed utilization and meat yields of white leg shrimp L. vannamei was investigated. White shrimp fry weighing 0.62 g were kept in one of 12 tanks (75 head/500 L holding tank) in a closed recirculation system. Four experimental diets, a commercial diet (control), phytoncide oil (PO), oregano oil (OO) and fermented garlic liquid (GL) were fed for 16 weeks. The mean water quality values for the whole experimental period were $27.8{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, $7.6{\pm}0.3$, $15.5{\pm}0.3$ g/L and $6.1{\pm}0.3$ mg/L for water temperature, pH, salinity and dissolved oxygen, respectively. At the end of the trial, 10 shrimp per tank were randomly sampled and meat yields (%) were evaluated after peeling the shell and removing the head. After a 16 week feeding trial, final weight of shrimp ranged from 21.9 g to 23.6 g. Feed conversion was not significantly different among groups (p>0.05), which was the lowest (1.95) in the control and highest (2.30) in the PO. Specific growth rate was also not significantly different (p>0.05) and ranged from 3.18% to 3.25%. Average daily gain of 0.2 g was obtained in all treatments. Mortality varied from 35.1% for control to 44.9% for OO. Meat yields maintained constant at 52.1% for control to 53.0% for PO. The study suggested that natural essential oils could not exert any improvement in growth performance, mortality and meat yields of white leg shrimp.
The oil separation is effectively performed from the oil containing alkaline cleaner solution by using a backflushed ultrafiltration system, where hollow fibers commercially made by polyacrylonitrile copolymer are bundled. Backflushing to reduce membrane fouling during crossflow ultrafiltration is investigated. Experimental observations allow us to understand the behavior of permeate flux according to the relative operating conditions, and determine the optimum condition of normal operation and backflushing. The maximum improvement of net permeate flux owing to backflushing was found to be about 23 % with the condition of 10 min/40 sec for the cycle of normal/backflushing operations. Note that, however, the maintenance of stable permeate flux is lost as the duration of normal operation is increased. The permeate flux depends on both the backflushing pressure and the feed flow rate. It is obvious that there is a critical velocity of feed flow, in which permeate flux is practically independent of backflushing pressure. Above this critical value, the permeate flux is proportional to an appropriate power of the backflushing pressure, $\Delta P_{back}^n$, where exponent n is enhanced with increasing feed velocity.
Non-conventional oil resources such as shale gas are becoming increasingly important and have drawn the attention of several major oil companies all over the world. Nevertheless, the market-changing growth of shale gas production in recent years has resulted in the emergence of environmental and water management challenges. This is because the water used in the hydraulic fracturing process contains large amount of pollutants including ions, organics, and particles. Accordingly, the treatment of this flowback water from shale gas plant is regarded as one of the key technologies. In this study, we examined the feasibility of membrane distillation as a treatment technology for the water from shale gas plants. Direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) is a thermally-driven process based on a vaper pressure gradient across a hydrophobic membrane, allowing the treatment of feed waters containing high concentration of ions. Experiments were carried out put in the lab-scale under various conditions such as membrane types, temperature difference, flow rate and so on. Synthetic feed water was prepared and used based on the data from literature. The results indicated that DCMD is suitable for treating not only low-range flowback water but also high-range flowback water. Based on the theoretical calculation, DCMD could have over 80% of recovery. Nevertheless, organic pollutants such as oil and surfactant were identified as serious barriers for the application of MD. Further works will be required to develop the optimum pretreatment for this MD process.
The objective of this study was to calculate the unit price of an alternative feed ingredient for broiler chickens in consideration of the energy and nutritive contents in the feed ingredient by using a simple Excel worksheet. A corn-distiller's dried grains with solubles (corn-DDGS) was used as an alternative ingredient and corn and soybean meal as ingredients to be replaced. The net change of feed price was calculated based on the replacement values which were estimated in consideration of energy and nutrient concentration in feed ingredients used in the calculation, the price of feed ingredients and inclusion rate of the alternative ingredient. The nitrogen corrected apparent metabolizable energy(AMEn) and standardized ileal digestible AA including Lys, Met, Thr, and Trp, total Ca, and available P were employed as nutritive component to calculate the replacement values for individual feed ingredients. The equation for replacement was 1 ${\times}$ corn-DDGS + 0.0334 ${\times}$ soybean oil + 0.0182 ${\times}$ Limestone = 0.8893 ${\times}$ corn + 0.13 ${\times}$ soybean meal + 0.0004 ${\times}$ Lys + 0.0022 ${\times}$ Met + 0.0005 ${\times}$ Trp + 0.0028 ${\times}$ Thr + 0.0264 ${\times}$ dicalcium phosphate. The replacement price of corn-DDGS was calculated to be 270 won/kg when the inclusion rate was 15% and the energy and nutrient contents were considered in the calculation. In conclusion, the Excel-based ingredient price calculator may be useful to determine the economic value when an alternative feed ingredient is used in diets fed to broiler chickens.
Experiments on deactivation kinetics of immobilized lipase enzyme from Candida cyl-indracea were performed in stirred bath reactor using rice bran oil as the substrate and temperature as the deactivation parameter. The data were fitted In first order deactivation model. The effect of temperature on deactivation rate was represented by Arrhenius equation. Theoretical equations were developed based on pseudo-steady state approximation and Michaelis -Menten rate expression to predict the time course of conversion due to enzyme deactivation and apparent half-life of the immobilized enzyme activity in PFR and CSTH under constant feed rate polity for no diffusion limitation and diffusion limitation of first order. Stability of enzyme in these continuous reactors was predicted and factors affecting the stability were analyzed.

Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) has developed a compact coal-gasification system to accumulate our experiment skills. The combustion furnace for residual oil was modified as a small size coal gasifier. Recently, coal feeding system was also upgraded to control coal feed rate more accurately. Our research group has conducted several experiments to find out the effect of $O_2$/coal ratio on the cold gas efficiency. Furthermore, the effect of $N_2$/coal ratio on the transport characteristics was also studied. According to the calculation of heat and mass balance, the cold gas efficiency was estimated to the maximum at $O_2$/coal ratio of around 0.73. But small size gasifier such as ours required higher value of $O_2$/coal ratio than that of the theoretical estimation. On the optimal $N_2$/coal ratio, we noticed that the coal feed rate was intimately related with the transporting gas pressure and the pipe diameter.
The objective of this study is to assess the impact of spray drying conditions on medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) loading, solubility, and release of an MCT-loaded solid self-emulsifying system in a water-insoluble oily substance. MCT-loaded solid self-emulsifying systems are prepared by spray drying with SDS and calcium silicate. The effects of inlet temperature (60, 80, or 100℃) and feed solution composition (0, 10, 50, 90, or 100% ethanol) on physicochemical properties of MCT-loaded solid self-emulsifying systems are studied. The inlet temperature significantly affects the water solubility of MCT. Moreover, the feed solution composition significantly affects water solubility, release rate, and MCT loading. The MCT-loaded solid self-emulsifying system obtained at 60℃ using 90% ethanol feed solution shows the best physicochemical properties among the synthesized products and exhibits better water solubility (4.43 ± 0.44 vs. 0 ㎍/mL) and release (94.4 ± 1.6 vs. 32.8 ± 7.4%, 60 min) than a commercial product. Furthermore, the MCT-loaded solid self-emulsifying system shows an excellent emulsion droplet size (approximately 230 nm).
