The essential oil fraction of Leonurus sibiricus was analyzed by TLC and gas chromatography. By utilizing silica gel column, a ketone compound, m.w. 167, was isolated from the essential oil. The essential oil showed considerably the diuretic action, but the water extract exhibited weak action. This diuretic action of the water extract was potentiated by combined administration of essential oil. On the isolated rabbit's uterus the essential oil decreased spontanous movement and showed relaxation.
Volatile odor substance originating from drying and making dry peel of tangerine from the fruit skin were collected through modern equipment. The anti-microbial activity of the substance against various skin-residing bacteria including acne, dandruff, athelete's foot, and gingivitis inducing microorganisms were tested. Anti-microbial activity was observed in purified oil, where 87 to 92% was D-limonene. Against P. acnes, 103$cfu/m{\ell}$ of P. acnes were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu oil, and the MIC was measured to be 0.3%. Against P. ovale, a dandruff inducing bacteria, 104$cfu/m{\ell}$were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu oil, and the MIC was measured to be 0.1%. Against T. rubrum and T. Mentagrophytes, both of which are athelete's foot inducing microorganisms, 83% of T. Mentagrophytes and 99.9% of T. rubrum were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu oil, and the MIC were 0.3% and 0.05% respectively. Against S. aureus, a skin infection inducing bacteria, 103$cfu/m{\ell}$ of the bacteria were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. Against B. subtilis, a non-pathogenic sporulating bacteria, 104$cfu/m{\ell}$ of the bacteria were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. Against C. albicans, found in mucous membranes, 104$cfu/m{\ell}$ of the bacteria were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. Against Aspergillus niger, an otomycosis inducing microorganism, 99.9% were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. The results above indicate that low concentration of purified oil extracted from tangerine had strong antimicrobial activities against bacteria and fungi residing on the skin, and that it may be developed into skin disorder treating products in the future.
Performance of a screw press was investigated experimentally with soybeans of various temperatures in order to find out a proper temperature of soybean to extract the oil by the mechanical method. Crude oil extracted by the screw press was chemically analyzed to determine a level of processing the oil for the oil to be used as a fuel for a compression ignition engine. The crude oil was degummed and dried by a plant type laboratory experimental setup to decide whether the processes are effective to improve quality of the oil as a fuel. The degummed oil and the degummed and dried oil were also chemically analyzed and were compared with the crude oil and the commercially degummed and dried soybean oil. The results are as follows: 1. In extraction of soybean oil by a screw press, heating soybeans is effective to increase oil production and to decrease energy consumption of the press. A proper temperature of soybean to extract the oil by the press was determined as about $50^{\circ}C$. 2. Soybean oil production and electric energy consumption of the press are about 83 ml and 58 Wh per 1 kg of soybeans heated to about $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. 3. The quality of crude oil produced by the press is similar to that of the commercially degummed and dried oil. The crude oil does not need to be degummed or dried for use as an engine fuel.

This study investigates the detection system of oil pollution level using single optical fiber sensor. This study focus on sensing of oil pollution by moisture and iron powder which are representatives of oil pollution factor. In addition, It is placed that the water and iron powder as an oil pollution factor in the oil tank which is the oil circulation in. The oil pollution detection system was measured by the changing of intensity of light and sensing gap. The result of this experimentation not only confirmed the contamination by moisture volume in the oil tank from the section 190ppm to 540ppm, but also monitored the contamination by iron volume from the section 1200ppm to 3500ppm. This study confirmed effectiveness of this detection system using optical fiber sensor. There is expectations of measuring another section by various optical fiber sensor.
In this paper, studies on application cases of machine condition monitoring using oil sensors are reviewed. Owing to rapid industrial advancements, maintenance strategies play a crucial role in reducing the cost of downtime and improving system reliability. Consequently, machine condition monitoring plays an important role in maintaining operation stability and extending the period of usage for various machines. Machine condition monitoring through oil analysis is an effective method for assessing a machine's condition and providing early warnings regarding a machine's breakdown or failure. Among the three prevalent methods, the online analysis method is predominantly employed because this method incorporates oil sensors in real-time and has several advantages (such as prevention of human errors). Wear debris sensors are widely employed for implementing machine condition monitoring through oil sensors. Furthermore, various types of oil sensors are used in different machines and systems. Integrated oil sensors that can measure various oil attributes by incorporating a single sensor are becoming popular. By monitoring wear debris, machine condition monitoring using oil sensors is implemented for engines, automotive transmission, tanks, armored vehicles, and construction equipment. Additionally, such monitoring systems are incorporated in aircrafts such as passenger airplanes, fighter airplanes, and helicopters. Such monitoring systems are also employed in chemical plants and power plants for managing overall safety. Furthermore, widespread application of oil condition diagnosis requires the development of diagnostic programs.

A total of 80 pigs ($5.68{\pm}0.61kg$ BW; 21 d of age) were used to evaluate the effect of fat sources in weaned pigs. Pigs were allotted into five treatments based on body weight, in a completely randomized block design. Treatments consisted of diets representing different ratio between soy oil or corn oil and tallow; 1) S100 (soy oil 100%), 2) S75 (soy oil:tallow=75:25), 3) S50 (soy oil:tallow=50:50), 4) C75 (corn oil:tallow=75:25), 5) C50 (corn oil:tallow=50:50). During d 0 to 14, pigs were fed diets containing 3,400 kcal ME, 23% crude protein, 1.65 % lysine and for the period of d 15 to 28, pigs were fed diets supplying 3,400 kcal ME, 20.5% crude protein, 1.355% lysine. For d 0 to 14, a significant differences in ADG and ADFI were observed among treatments, pigs fed animal-vegetable fat blends gained more than pigs fed the S100. As tallow addition was increased from 25% to 50% replacing soy or corn oil, ADG was improved from 6.32% to 28.38%. In phase II (d 15 to 28) period, ADG, ADFI and FCR were not significantly different among treatments. For overall period (d 0 to 28), pigs fed 50% animal:50% vegetable fat blends diets consumed more feed and grew faster than pigs fed control diet and 75% vegetable oil:25% tallow groups, but the differences was not significant among treatments. Apparent DM, CP and fat digestibility were increased with time postweaning for each treatment. There were no differences in digestibilities of total amino acid during overall period. The combination of soy oil or corn oil with tallow produced slightly higher serum triglycerides (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) combination compared with the soy oil alone. In conclusion, tallow:soy (or corn) oil blends diets improved growth rate and the ratio of 50% tallow plus 50% soy (or corn) oil blends diets were favorable for growth and nutrient digestibilities of weaned pigs.
This paper is a study of the investment dynamics focusing on crude oil supply by OPEC and non-OPEC. Oil supply capacity is first determined by a leader, OPEC, and by an aggregate that represents non-OPEC producers. OPEC wants to increase a gain from oil price increase while keeping its market share relative to non-OPEC's share. An investment rule model is developed for OPEC crude oil supply capacity in response to non-OPEC's decision. In presence of oil price uncertainty, oil price threshold is derived above which it is optimal for OPEC to expand oil supply capacity since otherwise the increased supply of non-OPEC results in weakening of OPEC market share in the world oil market. In addition, a lower threshold price is derived below which OPEC triggers a capacity reduction to regain its otherwise forgone profits. A simulation is provided for calculating the capacity expansion and reduction thresholds.
Ozone is a gaseous molecule able to kill microorganisms, such as yeast, fungi, bacteria, and protozoa. However, ozone gas is unstable and cannot be used easily. In order to utilize ozone properly and efficiently, plant oil can be employed. Ozone reacts with C-C double bonds of fatty acids, converting to ozonized oil. In this reaction, ozonide is produced within fatty acids and the resulting ozonized oil has various biological functions. In this study, we showed that ozonized oil has antimicrobial activity against fungi and bacteria. To test the antimicrobial activity of ozonized oil, we produced ozonized olive oil. Ozonized olive oil was applied to Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Antimicrobial activity was assayed using the disk diffusion method following the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were 0.25 mg for S. aureus, 0.5 mg for S. epidermidis, 3.0 mg for P. aeruginosa, and 1.0 mg for E. coli. Gram positive bacteria were more susceptible than Gram negative bacteria. We compared growth inhibition zones against S. aureus and MRSA, showing that the ozonized olive oil was more effective on MRSA than S. aureus. Furthermore, the ozonized olive oil killed C. albicans within an hour. These data suggested that ozonized olive oil could be an alternative drug for MRSA infection and could be utilized as a potent antimicrobial and antifungal substance.
Sesame oil was sometimes replaced by mixed oil due to high price in Korean market. To find out authentic sesame oil, electronic nose (E-nose) based on mass spectrometer system was used. Sesame oil was blended with perilla oil at the ratio of 97:3, 94:6, 91:9, 88:12 and 85:15, respectively. Intensities of each fragment from sesame oil by E-nose based on MS were completely different from those of perilla oil. The obtained data was used for discriminant function analysis. For quantitative analysis, the partial least square algorithm was used. The added concentration of perilla oil to sesame oil was correlated with discriminant function first score (DF1) and second score (DF2). From this relationship it could be found out how much perilla oil added. DFA plot indicated a significant separation of pure sesame oil and pure perilla oil. The different geographical origin of sesame oil was used for blending with perilla oil were closed to that of sesame oil. Korean sesame oil mixture and Indian sesame oil one were well separated. And the correlation between mixing ratios and DF1 values was found at the ratio of 97:3, 91:9, and 85:15 (SE vs PE oil), respectively. But the added concentration of perilla oil to sesame oil was correlated with discriminant function first score (DF1). E-nose based on MS system could be used as an efficient method for purity of oil quality.
