A Development of Connection Piece Steel Casting for the Offshore Structures Using High Impact Value with Low Temperature & High Strength Casting Steel Material (고강도 및 저온 고충격 주강소재를 이용한 해양플렌트용 커넥트 주강부품 개발)

  • The high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels have low carbon contents (0.05~0.25% C) in order to produce adequate formability and weldability, and they have manganese contents up to 1.7%. Small quantities of silicon, chromium, nickel, copper, aluminum, molybdenum are used in various combinations. The results contained in this paper can provide the valuable information on the development of $-40^{\circ}C$ low temperature HSLA. Furthermore, the present experimental data will provide important database for casting steel materials of the offshore structure.

  • The reduction of the dynamic response of an offshore structure subjected to wind-generated random ocean waves is of extreme significance in the aspects of serviceability, fatigue life and safety of the structure. In this study, a new neuro-control scheme is applied to the vibration control of a fixed offshore platform under random wave loads to examine the applicability of the proposed method. It is called the Lattice Probabilistic Neural Network (LPNN), as it utilizes lattice pattern of state vectors as the training data of PNN. When control results of the LPNN are compared with those of the NN and PNN, LPNN showed better performance in effectively suppressing the structural responses in a shorter computational time.

  • RC structure which is located at shoreline has more serious damages compared with inland structure, because it is directly exposed to chlorine ion which is called incoming salt. In the transmission of incoming salt, differences in transmitted volume of incoming salts could occur according to the influences of local shoreline topography which includes surrounding weather conditions, types of building placements, obstacles of wind tunnel etc. And therefore, for the application of boundary conditions for durable offshore structure design against the salt attack, comparative analysis through wind tunnel test and fluid value simulation are executed in order to investigate the moving and adhesion process of incoming salt to offshore structure.

Shoreline Changes due to the Construction of Offshore Structure and its Numerical Calculation (이안 구조물 건설에 따른 해안선의 변화와 수치계산)

  • A numerical model for practical use based on the 1-line theory is presented to simulate shoreline changes due to construction of offshore structures. The shoreline change model calculates the longshore sediment transport rate using breaking waves. Before the shoreline change model execution, a wave model, adopting the modified Boussinesq equation including the breaking parameters and bottom friction term, was used to provide the longshore distribution of the breaking waves. The contents of present model are outlined first. Then to examine the characteristics of this model, the effects of the parameters contained in this model are clarified through the calculations of shoreline changes for simple cases. Finally, as the guides for practical application of this model, several comments are made on the parameters used in the model, such as transport parameter, average beach slope, breaking height variation alongshore, depth of closure, etc. with the presentation of typical examples of 3-dimensional movable bed experimental results for application of this model. Here, beach change behind the offshore structures is represented by the movement of the shoreline position. Analysis gives that the transport parameters should be taken as site specific parameters in terms of time scale for the shoreline change and adjusted to achieve the best agreement between the calculated and the observed near the structures.

  • In manufacturing An offshore plant is a structure that produces resources buried in the seabed. It can be classified into fixed, floating, and hybrid methods depending on the installation method. In particular, the Lattice boom type crane is typically used because it is used for a long time in the sea and moves to other seas, which is less affected by wind. In this study, the crane was designed by using three-step optimization design in the early stage of the design of Lattice boom crane for offshore plant. Finite element analysis was performed to verify the safety factor, deflection, buckling coefficient and fatigue life of the designed crane and the results were verified.

  • This study provides an insight of the nonlinear behavior of the Offshore Wind Turbine (OWT) structure using the distributed plasticity approach. The fiber section beam-column element is applied to construct the finite element model. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified using linear analysis via the comparison of the dynamic characteristics. For collapse risk assessment of OWT, the nonlinear effects considering the earthquake Incident Angle (IA) have been evaluated first. Then, the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) has been executed using a set of 20 near-fault records. Lastly, fragility curves are developed to evaluate the vulnerability of structures for different limit states. Attained results justify the accuracy of the proposed approach for the structural response against the ground motions and other environmental loads. It indicates that effects of static wind and wave loads along with the earthquake loads should be considered during the risk assessment of the OWT structure.

  • The purpose of this study is 3 dimensional modeling of lower part of drilling system in offshore rig and simulation of drilling process. Recently, shipbuilding companies have been focusing on offshore rigs due to their high added-value and the reduced demand of new shipbuilding. In most cases, however, the basic design, installation and management of offshore rig are carried out by foreign companies. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain the knowledge and information of drilling system. In this study drilling devices, BOP(Blowout Preventor) and cementing job and mud circulation related components are included as the main components of offshore rig. The structure and function of them were analyzed from a viewpoint of object-oriented technique. On the basis of this analysis they were modeled in the 3 dimensional structure with 3D software tool such as CATIA and 3DVIA Composer. The drilling process was simulated according to the scenario of drilling operation. This simulation system can be effectively used for an educational tool for students and engineers in ocean plant industries.

A Study on Design of Offshore Meteorological Tower (해상기상탑 설계에 관한 연구)

  • A meteorological(met) tower is the first structure installed during the planning stages of offshore wind farm. The purpose of this paper is to design the met tower with tripod bucket type support structure and to install the sensors. The support structure consist of a central steel shaft connected to three cylindrical steel suction buckets which is more cheaper than monopile or jacket type. And the remote wind condition sensors and marine monitoring equipment, including adcp, pressure type tide gauge, wave height sensors, and scour sensors, remote power supply are installed. The manufactured met tower constructed on sea area which is in front of Gasa island. All of functions of met tower showed normal operation conditions and the wind data got by remote data collection system successfully.

  • For large-scale 5MW offshore wind turbines, the discrete equation of fluid domain and the motion equation of structural domain with geometric nonlinearity were built, the three-dimensional modeling of the blade considering fluid-structure interaction (FSI) was achieved by using Unigraphics (UG) and Geometry modules, and the numerical simulation and the analysis of the vibration characteristics for wind turbine structure under rotating effect were carried out based on ANSYS software. The results indicate that the rotating effect has an apparent effect on displacement and Von Mises stress, and the response and the distribution of displacement and Von Mises stress for the blade in direction of wingspan increase nonlinearly with the equal increase of rotational speeds. Compared with the single blade model, the blade vibration period of the whole machine model is much longer. The structural coupling effect reduces the response peak value of the blade displacement and Von Mises stress, and the increase of rotational speed enhances this coupling effect. The maximum displacement difference between two models decreases first and then increases along wingspan direction, the trend is more visible with the equal increase of rotational speed, and the boundary point with zero displacement difference moves towards the blade root. Furthermore, the Von Mises stress difference increases gradually with the increase of rotational speed and decreases nonlinearly from the blade middle to both sides. The results can provide technical reference for the safe operation and optimal design of offshore wind turbines.
