  • In this paper, various modulation techniques, including the legacy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal modulation techniques, are introduced and the spectral characteristics and correlation characteristics of signals with various modulation techniques are analyzed based on numerical simulation. With the development of various GNSS services, the limited frequency band has become increasingly saturated, and issues of interoperability and compatibility have emerged in the new GNSS design. Since the efficient allocation of frequency resources is closely related to spectrum design, modulation techniques are one of the important signal design parameters of new signal design. Signal modulation techniques are closely related to various figure of merits (FoMs) as well as spectrum characteristic, and in some cases there is a complicated trade-off between FoMs. Thus, the FoMs associated with modulation technology should be analyzed and the best signal candidates should be chosen carefully via the trade-off analysis for FoMs. In this paper, we define the modulation technique based on Phase Shift Keying (PSK), Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) and Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) for the design of KPS signals, and the FoMs of signals in terms of spectrum and correlation function are evaluated. Signals with various modulation techniques are implemented through a numerical simulation, and the relevant FoMs are analyzed.

  • The evolution of the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology has enhanced positioning performance in terms of positioning accuracy and time efficiency. The technology makes it possible to determine orthometric heights at a few centimeter accuracies by transforming accurate ellipsoid heights if an accurate geoid model has been employed. This study aims to generate a correction surface using GNSS/leveling co-points and a local geoid model, Thailand Geoid Model 2017 (TGM2017), through the Kriging interpolation method in a small local area. Combining the surface and TGM2017 significantly improves height transformation with the 1-cm RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) fit of 10 GNSS/leveling reference points and a mean offset of +0.1 cm. The evaluation of the correction surface at 5 GNSS/leveling checkpoints shows the RMSE of 1.0 cm, which is 82.6 percent of accuracy improvements. The GNSS leveling method can possibly be used to replace a conventional leveling technique at a few centimeter uncertainties in the case of small areas with clear-sky and high satellite visibility environments.

  • Recently, ToA and TDoA estimation are favorable among all of estimation techniques because they have the best accuracy in estimating position. ToA and TDoA estimation are typical techniques based on time. So, it is important to have the time syncronization and offset between a target node and several reference nodes. If they don't have the time syncronization between a reference node and target node or have a time offset among reference nodes, the positioning error will increase due to the ranging error. The conventional positioning algorithm does not have a accurate device's position because ranging error is added the calc dation of the position. In this paper, we propose a hybrid method of ToA and TDoA ll increase due. We use MHP pulse that has orthogonal pulse instead of the existing pulse to transmit and receive pulses between a target node and reference nodes. We can estimate the target node's position by ToA and TDoA estimation to transmit and receive MHP pulses only once. When the proposed Hybrid method iteratively calculate the distance, we can select the ranging technique to have more accurate position. The simulation results confirm the enhancement of the Hybrid method.

  • In this paper, we have proposed and experimentally performed a polarization and phase control method of an optical signal which has same wavelength with the optical carrier to improve phase characteristics of a continuous wave(CW) generated by the double sideband-suppressed carrier(DSB-SC) as one of the famous photomixing technique for making sub-millimeter and terahertz waves. A polarization and phase controlled optical signal has been coupled with the general DSB-SC on an optical coupler. The output of the optical coupler is then photomixed by a photomixer. From our analysis and measurement results, we have found that the amplitude of the generated sub-mm and terahertz CW signal is higher 1.5 dB and the phase noise is lower about 3 dB@10 kHz offset frequency than the general DSBSC. Consequently, since our proposed method has improved the amplitude and phase noise of CW signals in the sub-mm and terahertz bands, it can be helpful results to make low cost CW generator in sub-millimeter and subterahertz bands.

  • Photomixing techniques beating two optical signals with different wavelengths and strong correlations are also very useful techniques to make a continuous wave(CW) signals in the range of millimeter(mm) and terahertz(THz) frequencies. An optical double sideband-suppressed carrier(DSB-SC) technique is one of the popular techniques to generate two optical signals with different wavelengths and strong correlations. DSB-SC signals with strong correlations are generated by a CW modulation of an optical carrier with a local oscillator and an optical modulator. In the previous parers related the DSB-SC for producing the CW signals within the range of mm and THz frequencies, there have been no reports why the optical carrier should suppress. In order to clear that, we have analyzed and measured the characteristics of the mm-wave CW signals made by the DSB-SC photomixing in this paper. From our analysis and measurement results, compared with the case of the DSB with the maximized optical carrier, the power and phase noise have improved about 23.9 dB and 21 dBc/Hz(@ 1 MHz offset frequency) in the case of the DSB with the minimized optical carrier (that is to say, the DSB-SC). Consequently, it is evident reason that the optical carrier should sufficiently suppress to obtain the mm-wave CW signals with the high power and low noise. This paper has given very helpful data to make mm- and THz-wave CW signals using photomixing techniques with the DSB-SC because the reason why the optical carrier should be suppressed is reported in this paper based on the numerical and experimental results.

  • This paper proposed color matching technique, including display characterization, chromatic adaptation model, and gamut mapping and extension, to generate consistent colors for the same input signal in each display device. It is necessary to characterize the relationship between input and output colors for display device, to apply chromatic adaptation model considering the difference of reference white, and to compensate for the gamut which display devices can represent for reproducing consistent colors on DTV display devices. In this paper, 9 channel-independent GOG model, which is improved from conventional 3 channel GOG(gain, offset gamma) model, is used to consider channel interaction and enhance the modeling accuracy. Then, the input images have to be adjusted to compensate for the limited gamut of each display device. We proposed the gamut mapping and extension method, preserving lightness and hue of an original image and enhancing the saturation of an original image in xy chromaticity diagram. Since the hmm visual system is more sensitive to lightness and hue, these values are maintained as the values of input signal, and the enhancement of saturation is changed to the ratio of input and output gamut. Also the xy chromaticity diagram is effective to reduce the complexity of establishing gamut boundary and the process of reproducing moving-pictures in DTV display devices. As a result, reproducing accurate colors can be implemented when the proposed method is applied to LCD and PDP display devices

  • OFDM technique was adopted as the standard of IEEE 802.1 la and it has been widely used for wireless LAN, European DVB/DAB system, Korean DMB system. In the standard of IEEE 802.11a the data packet is composed of two parts, preamble and data. Preamble is composed of short pilots and long pilots, which are used for synchronization and estimation of frequency offset and channel. We can also compensate phase noise effect in the transceiver by using above pilots. The phase noise is more complicate than frequency offset and seriously affects system performance. In this paper, we newly propose CPE and ICI simultaneous compensation method to compensate phase noise generated by transceiver oscillator and compare with previous studies. As results, phase noise effect can be significantly compensated by CPE cancellation method, PNS algorithm and our proposed CPE and ICI compensation method. Especially, the proposed CPE and ICI compensation method can achieve the best BER performance compared with original OFDM, CPE cancellation method and PNS algorithm.

  • In this paper, an 1.2V 8b 800MSPS A/D Converter(ADC) with an odd number of folding block to overcome the asymmetrical boundary-condition error is described. The architecture of the proposed ADC is based on a cascaded folding architecture using resistive interpolation technique for low power consumption and high input frequency. The ADC employs a novel odd folding block to improve the distortion of signal linearity and to reduce the offset errors. In the digital block, furthermore, we use a ROM encoder to convert a none-$2^n$-period code into the binary code. The chip has been fabricated with an $0.13{\mu}m$ 1P6M CMOS technology. The effective chip area is $870{\mu}m\times980{\mu}m$. SNDR is 44.84dB (ENOB 7.15bit) and SFDR is 52.17dBc, when the input frequency is 10MHz at sampling frequency of 800MHz.

  • Recently, single channel seismic survey for engineering purpose have been used widely taking advantage of simple processing. However it is very difficult to obtain high fidelity subsurface image by single channel seismic due to insufficient fold coverage. Recently, seismic waveform inversion in multi channel seismic survey is utilized for accurate subsurface imaging even in complex terrains. In this paper, we propose the seismic waveform inversion algorithm for velocity model building using a single channel seismic data. We utilize the Gauss-Newton method and assume that subsurface model is 1-Dimensional. Seismic source estimation technique is used and offset effect is also corrected by removing delay time by offset. Proposed algorithm is verified by applying modified Marmousi2 model, and applied to field data set obtained in port of Busan.

  • In this paper, a wireless video streaming system is designed and implemented for TV white space applications. It consists of a RF transceiver module, a digital modem, a camera, and a LCD screen. A VGA resolution video is captured by a camera, modulated by modem, and transmitted by RF transceiver module, and finally displayed at a destination 2.6-inch LCD screen. The RF transceiver is based on direct-conversion architecture. Image leakage is improved by low pass filtering LO, which successfully covers the TVWS. Also, DC offset problem is solved by current steering techniques which control common mode level at DAC output node. The output power of the transmitter and the minimum sensitivity of the receiver is +10 dBm and -82 dBm, respectively. The channel bandwidth is tunable among 6, 7 and 8 MHz according to regulations and standards. Digital modem is realized in Kintex-7 FPGA. Data rate is 9 Mbps based on QPSK and 512ch OFDM. A VGA video is successfully streamed through the air by using the developed TV white-space RF communication module.
