  • Structural vibration induced by excitation forces under turbulent boundary layer is investigated in terms of the numerical analysis in this paper. Since the responses of structures excited by the wall pressure fluctuation(WPF) are described by the power spectral density functions, they are calculated and reviewed theoretically for finite and infinite length beams. For the use of numerical approaches, the WPF needs to be discretized but conventional finite element method is not much effective for that purpose because the WPF lose the spatial correlation characteristics. As an alternative numerical technique for WPF modelling, a wavenumber domain finite element approach, called waveguide finite element method, is examined here for infinite length beams. From the comparison between the numerical and theoretical results, it was confirmed that the WFE method can effectively and easily cope with the excitation from WPF and hence the suitable approach.

  • An important source of noise from railways is rolling noise caused by wheel and rail vibrations induced by acoustic roughness at the wheel-rail contact. In the present paper, characteristics of rail vibration and radiated sound power from concrete slab tracks for domestic high speed train(KTX) is investigated by means of a numerical method. The waveguide finite element and boundary element are combined and applied for this analysis. The concrete slab track is modelled simply with a rail and rail pad regarding the concrete slab as a rigid ground. The wave types which contribute significantly to the rail vibration and radiated noise are identified in terms of the mobility and decay rates. In addition, the effect of the rail pad stiffness on the radiated power is examined for two different rail pad stiffnesses.

  • Passive source depth discrimination has been studied for decades since the source depth can be used for discriminating whether the target is near the surface or submerged. In this thesis, an algorithm for source depth discrimination is proposed based on CIR (Channel Impulse Response) from target-radiated noise (or signal). In order to extract CIR without a known source signal, Ray-based blind deconvolution is used. Subsequently, intersections of CIR pattern, which is characterized by ray arrival time difference, is utilized for discriminating source depth. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated through numerical simulation in ocean waveguide, and verified via the experimental data.

  • In this work, a FTTL (fishbone-type transmission line) structure was fabricated on PES (polyether sulfone) for a realization of transparent flexible wireless communication device, and its RF characteristics were investigated. According to the results, the FTTL on PES showed a short wavelength characteristic compared with conventional coplanar waveguide. Concretely, the wavelength of the FTTL was 2.23 mm at 50 GHz, which was 56.6 % of the conventional coplanar waveguide. According to the bandwidth extraction result, the passband of the FTTL on PES was 608 GHz. Unlike conventional periodic structures, the characteristic impedance of the FTTL on PES showed a very low frequency dependency, which means that the FTTL on PES can be used for application to transmission line and distributed passive components with a broadband operation frequency.

  • In this paper the performance of a array invariant method is evaluated for source-range estimation in horizontally stratified shallow water ocean waveguide. The method has advantage of little computationally effort over existing source-localization methods. such as matched field processing or the waveguide invariant and array gain is fully exploited. And. no knowledge of the environment is required except that the received field should not be dominated by purely interference This simple and instantaneous method is applied to simulated acoustic propagation filed for testing range estimation performance. The result of range estimation according to the SNR for the underwater impulsive source with broadband spectrum is demonstrated. The spatial smoothing method is applied to suppress the effect of mutipath propagation by high frequency signal. The result of performance test for range estimation shows that the error rate is within 20% at the SNR above 10dB.

  • In this study, waves were defined using the water surface elevation data observed from the HeMOSU-1 and 2 marine meteorological observation towers installed on the west coast of Korea, and correlation analysis was performed between wave parameters. The wave height and wave period were determined using the wave-train analysis method and the wave spectrum analysis method, and the relationship between the wave parameters was calculated and compared with the previous study. In the relation between representative wave heights, most of the correlation coefficients between waves showed a difference of less than 0.1% in error rate compared to the previous study, and the maximum wave height showed a difference of up to 29%. In addition, as a result of the correlation analysis between the wave periods, the peak period was estimated to be abnormally large at rates of 2.5% and 1.3% in HeMOSU-1&2, respectively, due to the effect of the bimodal spectrum that occurs when the spectral energy density is small.

  • Sound propagation algorithm for a sonar simulator is required to run in real-time and should be able to model the range and depth dependence of the Korean ocean environments. Ray model satisfies these requirements and we developed an algorithm for range-dependent ocean environments. In this algorithm, we considered depth-dependence of sound speed through rays based on a rectangular cell method and layer method. Range-dependence of sound speed was implemented based on a split-step method in the range direction. Eigen-ray is calculated through an interpolation of ray bundles and Gaussian interpolation function was used. The received time signal of sonar was simulated by Fourier transform of eigen-ray solution in the frequency domain. Finally, for the verification of proposed algorithm, we compared the results of transmission loss with other validated models such as BELLHOP, SNUPE, KRAKEN and OASES, for the Pekeris waveguide, wedge, and deep ocean environments. As a result, we obtained satisfactory agreements among them.

  • A computer code that is based on the Pseudo-spectral finite difference algorithm using staggered grid is developed for the wave propagation modeling in the time domain. The advantage of a finite difference approximation is that any geometrically complicated media can be modeled. Staggered grids are advantageous as it provides much more accuracy than using a regular grid. Pseudo-spectral methods are those that evaluate spatial derivatives by multiplying a wavenumber by the Fourier transform of a pressure wave-field and performing the inverse Fourier transform. This method is very stable and reduces memory and the number of computations. The synthetic results by this algorithm agree with the analytic solution in the infinite and half space. The time domain modeling was implemented in various models. such as half-space. Pekeris waveguide, and range dependent environment. The snapshots showing the total wave-field reveals the Propagation characteristic or the acoustic waves through the complex ocean environment.

  • Passive source depth estimation has been studied for decades since the source depth can be used for target classification, target tracking, etc. The purpose of this paper is to solve the problem of ambiguity in the previous paper [S.-il. Cho et al. (in Korean), J. Acoust. Soc. Kr. 38, 120-127 (2019)] that source depth is estimated in two points. The patterns of phase shift of Channel Impulse Response(CIR) reflected in ocean surface and bottom is used for removing ambiguity of the source depth estimation, and after removing ambiguity, source depth is estimated at one point through the intersection of CIR. In order to extract CIR in case of unknown source signal and continuous signal or noise, Ray-based blind deconvolution is used. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated through numerical simulation in ocean waveguide.
