시화호 수질의 연변화 양상에 대한 연구 (Annual Variation of Water Qualities in the Shihwa Lake)

  • Annual variation of water qualities in the Shihwa Lake were observed 18 times from June 1996 to October 2001. We studied at the station of the upper streams and near the water gate of lake. After the flow of the outer seawater through the water gate, the surface salinity in Shihwa Lake increased to the range of 25-30 psu in both stations after October 1998. Due to the declination of the salinity differences between the surface and the bottom water, the pycnocline in which had existed until 1997 has weakened, and made the water column mix vertically. This led to the improvement of anoxic/hypoxic environment at bottom waters after April 1998. However, despite the continuous flow of the outer seawater, the concentrations of chlorophyll-a at surface layer were varied from $2{\mu}g/l\;to\;60{\mu}g/l$, and these values indicated the eutrophication. The following organic matter load was greatly influencing the surface layer's COD concentration. During the rainy season, the salinity at the surface layer to the below 15 psu resulting in stratification between the surface and bottom layer. Organic matters that were provided from the surface layer to the bottom layer due to active primary production in the year exhausted dissolved oxygen at the bottom layer, and the bulks of organic matters at bottom gave rise to hypoxic or anoxic environment. It was observed that the enrichment of ammonia and phosphate were main factors to worsen the water quality of the Shihwa Lake. The results of examining the annual variations in Shiwha Lake through principal component analysis shown that water characteristics in the rainy season were similar with those before input of outer sea water.

HadGEM2-AO의 북태평양 중층수 모의 성능 평가 (Evaluation of North Pacific Intermediate Water Simulated by HadGEM2-AO)

  • We analyzed the North Pacific Intermediate Water (NPIW) that was simulated in 25 coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) using historical and Representative Concentration Pathway 4.5 (RCP4.5) scenario experiments of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5), focusing on the evaluation of the performance of HadGEM2-AO. A large inter-model diversity in salinity, density, and depth of the NPIW exists even though the multi-model ensemble mean (MME) is comparable to observations. It was found that the depth of the NPIW tends to be deeper in the models in which the NPIW is relatively saltier. HadGEM2-AO simulates the lightest NPIW having the lowest salinity at shallower depth, compared with other CGCMs. Future projections of the NPIW show that the temperature of the NPIW increases, but the density decreases in all CMIP5 models. It was shown that the salinity of the NPIW decreases in most models and the decrease tends to be larger in models simulating the lighter NPIW. The HadGEM2-AO projects moderate changes in the temperature and density of the NPIW out of the CMIP5 models.

  • The diffusion characteristics of the high temperature and salinity water discharged in Chinhae Bay under BMP(Barge-Mounted Plants) desalination processes were simulated to access environmental impact. The 3-D baroclinic flow model is formulated by integrating the basic equations with respect to each control volume and by transforming them into a finite difference form using the space-staggered grid system. With a 3-D baroclinic flow model, the tide-induced and density-induced current was computed and confirmed by comparing with observed data. From the results of numerical experiment, it is expected that the maximum diffusion lengths of the high temperature and salinity which increase $0.6^{circ}C$ and 0.2 after discharging are 1 km and 3.5km, respectively. It may be expected that the discharge has an effect on surrounding area of discharge, but not an effect on whole area of Chinhae Bay.

Effects of Salinity on Demographic Traits of the Rotifer (Brachionus rotundiformis)

  • Six demographic parameters including life span (LS), maturation time (MT), net reproduction rate (Ro), mean generation length (G), innate capacity for increase $(r_m)$ and finite rate of increase $(\gamma)$ were estimated in the rotifer (Brachionus rotundiformis) cultured at three salinities of 5, 20 and 34 PSU and under a constant temperature of $28^{\circ}C$. The maximum life spans at salinities of 5, 20 and 34 PSU were 17, 12 and 13 days, respectively. The shortest maturation time (24 hr) was recorded at 5 PSU, and the rotifer at 20 PSU showed a most delayed maturation (192 hr). The maximum reproduction rate was 42 offspring per female in rotifer cultured at 5 PSU, while the longest generation length (8 days) was observed at 20 PSU. Maximum and minimum values of $r_m$ (1.56 and 0.46 individual per day) and $(\gamma)$ (6.67 and 1.70 individuals per day) were calculated at 5 and 34 PSU, respectively. Salinity also showed strong effect on correlation of the demographic traits examined. ANOVA revealed significant differences (P<0.05) between demographic parameters of the rotifer at the three salinity condition. Considering the higher values of life span, innate capacity and finite rate of increase, and shortest maturation time at 5 PSU, the rotifer we examined had a higher reproductive potential and longer life span at 5 PSU rather than at 20 or 34 PSU.

전지구 수온 및 염분 자료 품질 관리에 관한 논의 (A Review of the Quality Control of Global Ocean Temperature and Salinity Data)

  • 성공적인 국제 Argo 사업을 통해 얻어진 고해상도의 수온 및 염분 프로파일들을 이용하여 준실시간으로 3차원 전지구 해양 상태의 재현이 가능해졌으며, 전지구 해양 자료 분석 연구에 대한 관심 또한 크게 증가하였다. 본 연구에서는 XBT와 Argo 자료의 계통 오차, 열염분 해수면 높이 및 인공위성 관측 자료와의 해수면 수지 불일치, 해양 열용량 변동 및 객관 분석장 개발 현황 등 최근의 자료 분석 연구의 주요 쟁점들에 관해 정리하였다. 특히 동아시아 해역에서의 지역 규모 해양 기후 변화 분석에 앞서 매우 신중한 해양 자료의 품질 관리 및 전구 규모의 해양 변동에 관한 이해가 필요하다는 것을 강조하였다.

제주해협 갈치(Hairtail,Trichiurus lepturus) 자원의 어장형성기구에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Assembling Mechanism of the Hairtail, Trichiurus Lepturus, at the Fishing Grounds of the Cheju Strait)

  • The study on the Assembling Mechanism of the Hairtail, Trichiurus lenpturus, at the Fishing Grounds of the Cheju Strait had been investigated by analyzing the relationship of the oceanographic conditions and the fishing ground of the Hairtail in the Cheju Strait. 1. The fishing grounds of the hairtail at the Cheju Strait are formed at the bottom of a high temperature of the tidal front at the coast. area of northern Cheju Island, the tip of the linguiform is high in salinity at the eastern and western entrances of Cheju Island, low salinity eddy on the surface and its surrounding front, various water masses in the Strait and coastal waters of the South Sea in Korea. 2. The fishing grounds of the Hairtail at the Cheju Strait begins with the sea surface temperature higher than $15^{\circ}C$ and the incoming of low salinity water now from the East China Sea. 3. Estimation of optimum temperature and salinity per season based upon analysis for relationship between temperature of water and salinity of the bottom layer and the catch is : 15.2~$16.4^{\circ}C$, 34.20~34.40${\textperthousand}$ in spring(June); 14.4~ $17.0^{\circ}C$, 33.70~34.30${\textperthousand}$ in summer(July~September); and 15.7~ $18.6^{\circ}C$, 33.70~34.50$\textperthousand$ in autumn(October~December). Hairtail are mostly caught at the Yellow Sea Warm Current and Tsushima Current with temperature over $14.5^{\circ}C$ and salinity over 33.70${\textperthousand}$ at the bottom layers of the Cheju Strait. 4. Considering the relationship between the amount of hairtail catch and the water temperature of bottom layer, when the bottom water being above $14.0^{\circ}C$ flowed into Cheju Strait through the western entrance of the strait in summer, the ca-h appears to have been abundant. In contrast, the catch has been poor when the temperature of such water was recorded to be below $13^{\circ}C$ Therefore, distribution patterns of water at the bottom layer can be used as a forecast index whether the catch of a certain year will be good or poor.

Distribution Pattern of Zooplankton in the Han River Estuary with respect to Tidal Cycle

  • The monthly distribution of zooplankton communities in Han River estuary was investigated at two stations from July 1998 to June 1999. Monthly mean abundance of total zooplankton varied remarkably, with the range from 20 $indiv.{\cdot}m^{-3}$ to 19,600 $indiv.{\cdot}m^{-3}$. During the study period, dominant species of zooplankton community were dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans, copepods Paracalanus indicus, Paracaanus crassirostris, Acartia hongi, Acartia ohtsukai, and meroplanton cirriped larvae. According to tidal states, relative high abundance occurred at high tide without regard to season. The temporal distribution of abundance implied that the reduced salinity probably limited the zooplankton populations and the fluctuations of salinity were an important factor in the variation of abundance. However, the results of salinity tolerance test shows that the variations in salinity do not directly influence the decrease of abundance. This study shows that the relatively high abundance of zooplankton near high tide seems to be related with the expansion of abundant zooplankton inhabiting Incheon coastal waters through tidal currents.

Numerical Modeling of Circulation and Salinity Distribution in Seomjin River Estuary

  • Water circulation plays a crucial role in regulating the salinity of estuaries, which is essential for the survival of estuarine organisms. Changes in freshwater inflows or sea level can have significant impacts on the distribution and abundance of species within these ecosystems. To better understand these dynamics, this paper presents a study of water circulation and salinity distribution in Seomjin River estuary using the Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model (FVCOM) numerical model. An extreme scenario was simulated to assess the potential impact of tidal currents and river flow discharge on circulation and salinity distribution. The results of this study have important implications for managing estuarine ecosystems and conserving their associated biodiversity.

계절별 염분 자료를 이용한 아산만 연안의 담수 영향범위 추정 (Estimation on the Regions of Freshwater Influence using the Seasonal Salinity Data in Asan Bay Coastal Zone)

  • 아산만 유역에 건설된 배수갑문 운영양상을 분석하였으며, 유역의 강수량과 배수갑문을 통하여 배출되는 담수량의 결정계수는 $0.77{\sim}0.89$ 범위로 비교적 높은 상관관계를 보이는 것으로 파악되었다. 아산만 해역의 염분농도를 분석한 결과 강한 조석의 영향으로 뚜렷한 성층화 현상은 나타나지 않았으며, 유역 유출량과 염분농도의 결정계수는 대산 4 지점을 제외하고는 $0.49{\sim}0.62$ 범위로 나타났다. 한편 염분 농도 평균과 표준편차는 강한 상관관계(결정계수 = 0.9936)를 보이는 것으로 파악되었으며, 담수 영향정도가 평균과 더불어 염분의 표준편차에도 직접적으로 반영되고 있는 것으로 판단된다. 염분농도의 평균 및 표준편차를 이용한 담수 영향범위의 정량적인 기준을 적용하여 분석한 결과, 아산 $2{\sim}4$ 지점, 대산 1 지점이 아산만 유역의 직접적인 담수 영향범위로 파악되었다.

강화도 남단 조간대에서의 수온 및 염분 변동양상 분석 (Water Temperature and Salinity Variation Analysis in the Inter-Tidal Zone, South of Ganghwado, Korea)

  • 조간대가 발달한 강화도 남단 여차리, 동막리, 동검도에서의 정점 CTD 관측 자료를 이용하여 수온 및 염분변동 양상 및 원인 분석을 수행하였다. 조간대 관측 자료는 조간대의 침수기간동안의 자료만을 이용하였다. 침수기간동안의 기온자료와 수온자료를 비교분석한 결과 상관관계가 매우 작은 것으로 파악되었으며, 수온변화는 조위의 상승하강과 반대되는 양상을 뚜렷하게 보여 주었다. 반면, 장기적인 지하수 유입의 영향으로 조석주기 동안 해수에서의 염분경사는 해안선에서 바다방향으로 갈수록 증가하는 경향(수온의 경우에는 해안선에서 바다방향으로 갈수록 수온이 감소)이 있기 때문에 수온과는 반대되는 변화양상을 보이고 있다. 즉 조석의 침수기간동안의 염분변화는 침수시점을 기준으로 조위가 상승하여 고조에 도달할 때 까지 증가하고, 조위가 감소하여 노출되는 시점까지 다시 염분이 감소하는 뚜렷한 양상을 보이고 있는 것으로 파악되었다.
