Development of a Camera Self-calibration Method for 10-parameter Mapping Function

  • Tomographic particle image velocimetry (PIV) is a widely used method that measures a three-dimensional (3D) flow field by reconstructing camera images into voxel images. In 3D measurements, the setting and calibration of the camera's mapping function significantly impact the obtained results. In this study, a camera self-calibration technique is applied to tomographic PIV to reduce the occurrence of errors arising from such functions. The measured 3D particles are superimposed on the image to create a disparity map. Camera self-calibration is performed by reflecting the error of the disparity map to the center value of the particles. Vortex ring synthetic images are generated and the developed algorithm is applied. The optimal result is obtained by applying self-calibration once when the center error is less than 1 pixel and by applying self-calibration 2-3 times when it was more than 1 pixel; the maximum recovery ratio is 96%. Further self-correlation did not improve the results. The algorithm is evaluated by performing an actual rotational flow experiment, and the optimal result was obtained when self-calibration was applied once, as shown in the virtual image result. Therefore, the developed algorithm is expected to be utilized for the performance improvement of 3D flow measurements.

곡면의 특이적분을 위한 가상 매핑 방법 (Pseudo Mapping Method for Singular Integral of Curved Panels)

  • A numerical method is suggested for evaluating the singular integral of curved panels in the higher-order boundary element method. Two-step mapping procedures that are significantly related to the physical properties of singular behaviors were developed and illustrated. As a result, the singular behaviors were significantly alleviated, and the efficiency and robustness of the present method for tangentially and axially deformed elements were proven. However, inaccuracies and numerical instabilities of twisted elements were discovered as a result of nonlinearities.

Deep neural network based seafloor sediment mapping using bathymetric features of MBES multifrequency

  • Seafloor sediment mapping is an essential research topic in shallow coastal waters, especially in port development, benthic habitat mapping, and underwater communications. The seafloor sediments can be interpreted by collecting sediment samples directly in the field using a grab sampler or corer. Another method is optical, especially using underwater cameras and videos. Both methods each have weaknesses in terms of area coverage (mechanic) and accurate positioning (optic). The latest technology used to overcome it is the acoustic method (echosounder) with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Real Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning. Therefore, in this study will propose the classification of seafloor sediments in coastal waters using acoustic method that is Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) multi-frequency with five frequency (200 kHz, 250 kHz, 300 kHz, 350 kHz, and 400 kHz). In this study, the deep neural network (DNN) used the bathymetric multi frequency, bathymetric difference inters frequencies, and bathymetric features from 5 (five) frequencies as input layer and 4 (four) sediment types in 74 (seventy-four) sample sediment as output layer to make a seafloor sediment map. Results of sediment mapping using the DNN method show an overall accuracy of 71.6% (significant) and a kappa coefficient of 0.59 (moderate). The distribution of seafloor sediment in the study area is mainly silt (41.6%), followed by clayey sand (36.6%), sandy silt (14.2%), and silty sand (7.5%).

  • 2010년 이후 미국 정부의 연속 3대에 걸친 행정부 문서 일부에 나타난 핵심 단어를 통해 미국 해양정책의 최근 동향을 간략히 파악하여 보았다. 많은 핵심 단어들은 3대의 행정부 사이에서 달라지지 않은 채로 동일하게 사용되고 있어, 해양정책의 확고한 근간은 쉽사리 흔들리지 않고 있음을 시사하였다. 각 행정부마다 특징있게 추진한 주요 정책 가운데, 2010년의 연안 및 해양 공간 계획(CMSP), 2019년 해양지도 작성(Ocean Mapping), 2030년까지 영해 30% 보존이라는 2021년 목표 등에 대한 강조는 미국 해양환경 보전정책의 방향에 중대한 영향을 미칠 것이다. 행정부 3대에 걸쳐 나타난 미국 해양정책 주요 키워드의 장기적인 경향과 시사점은 세계 해양환경 보전정책의 미래 전망과 이에 상응하는 한국의 정책에도 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Concurrent Mapping and Localization using Range Sonar in Small AUV, SNUUVI

  • Increased usage of AUVs has led to the development of alternative navigational methods that use the acoustic beacons and dead reckoning. This paper describes a concurrent mapping and localization (CML) scheme that uses range sonars mounted on SNUUV­I, which is a small test AUV developed by Seoul National University. The CML is one of such alternative navigation methods for measuring the environment that the vehicle is passing through. In addition, it is intended to provide relative position of AUV by processing the data from sonar measurements. A technique for CML algorithm which uses several ranging sonars is presented. This technique utilizes an extended Kalman filter to estimate the location of the AUV. In order for the algorithm to work efficiently, the nearest neighbor standard filter is introduced as the algorithm of data association in the CML for associating the stored targets the sonar returns at each time step. The proposed CML algorithm is tested by simulations under various conditions. Experiments in a towing tank for one dimensional navigation are conducted and the results are presented. The results of the simulation and experiment show that the proposed CML algorithm is capable of estimating the position of the vehicle and the object and demonstrates that the algorithm will perform well in the real environment.

무인수상선의 디지털 트윈 공간 재구성을 위한 이미지 보정 및 점군데이터 간의 매핑 프레임워크 설계 (Design of a Mapping Framework on Image Correction and Point Cloud Data for Spatial Reconstruction of Digital Twin with an Autonomous Surface Vehicle)

  • In this study, we present a mapping framework for 3D spatial reconstruction of digital twin model using navigation and perception sensors mounted on an Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV). For improving the level of realism of digital twin models, 3D spatial information should be reconstructed as a digitalized spatial model and integrated with the components and system models of the ASV. In particular, for the 3D spatial reconstruction, color and 3D point cloud data which acquired from a camera and a LiDAR sensors corresponding to the navigation information at the specific time are required to map without minimizing the noise. To ensure clear and accurate reconstruction of the acquired data in the proposed mapping framework, a image preprocessing was designed to enhance the brightness of low-light images, and a preprocessing for 3D point cloud data was included to filter out unnecessary data. Subsequently, a point matching process between consecutive 3D point cloud data was conducted using the Generalized Iterative Closest Point (G-ICP) approach, and the color information was mapped with the matched 3D point cloud data. The feasibility of the proposed mapping framework was validated through a field data set acquired from field experiments in a inland water environment, and its results were described.

Integration of ERS-2 SAR and IRS-1 D LISS-III Image Data for Improved Coastal Wetland Mapping of southern India

  • As the launches of a series of remote sensing satellites, there are various multiresolution and multi-spectral images available nowadays. This diversity in remotely sensed image data has created a need to be able to integrate data from different sources. The C-band imaging radar of ERS-2 due to its high sensitivity to coastal wetlands holds tremendous potential in mapping and monitoring coastal wetland features. This paper investigates the advantages of using ERS-2 SAR data combined with IRS-ID LISS-3 data for mapping complex coastal wetland features of Tamil Nadu, southern India. We present a methodology in this paper that highlights the mapping potential of different combinations of filtering and integration techniques. The methodology adopted here consists of three major steps as following: (i) speckle noise reduction by comparative performance of different filtering algorithms, (ii) geometric rectification and coregistration, and (iii) application of different integration techniques. The results obtained from the analysis of optical and microwave image data have proved their potential use in improving interpretability of different coastal wetland features of southern India. Based visual and statistical analyzes, this study suggests that brovey transform will perform well in terms of preserving spatial and spectral content of the original image data. It was also realized that speckle filtering is very important before fusing optical and microwave data for mapping coastal mangrove wetland ecosystem.

기하학적 방법을 이용한 초기 박판형상 추정 (Prediction of Initial Blank Shape by Using Geometrical Method)

  • In this paper, method for mapping a three-dimensional shape into the two-dimensional plane will be introduced. This method is referred to geometric modelling and means a transformation between the flat sheet and final surface. The initial blank shape represents the original configuration of the final shape formed into three dimensional surface. The initial constant constant area mapping hypothesis was used in this paper. This technique will be applied to the basic data for an interactive computer design capable of dealing with typical stamping process, including deep parts and complex shapes.

Image Fusion and Evaluation by using Mapping Satellite-1 Data

  • China's Mapping Satellite-1, developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), was launched in three years ago. The data from Mapping Satellite-1 are able to use for efficient surveying and geometric mapping application field. In this paper, we fuse the panchromatic and multispectral images of Changchun area, which are obtained from the Mapping Satellite-1, the one that is the Chinese first transmission-type three-dimensional mapping satellite. The four traditional image fusion methods, which are HPF, Mod.IHS, Panshar and wavelet transform, were used to approach for effectively fusing Mapping Satellite-1 remote sensing data. Subsequently we assess the results with some commonly used methods, which are known a subjective qualitative evaluation and quantitative statistical analysis approach. Consequently, we found that the wavelet transform remote sensing image fusion is the optimal in the degree of distortion, the ability of performance of details and image information availability among four methods. To further understand the optimal methods to fuse Mapping Satellite-1 images, an additional study is necessary.
