Fusiform aneurysms on the basilar artery (BA) trunk are rare. The microsurgical management of these aneurysms is difficult because of their deep location, dense collection of vital cranial nerves, and perforating arteries to the brain stem. Endovascular treatment is relatively easier and safer compared with microsurgical treatment. Selective occlusion of the aneurysmal sac with preservation of the parent artery is the endovascular treatment of choice. But, some cases, particularly giant or fusiform aneurysms, are unsuitable for selective sac occlusion. Therefore, endovascular coiling of the aneurysm with parent vessel occlusion is an alternative treatment option. In this situation, it is important to determine whether a patient can tolerate parent vessel occlusion without developing neurological deficits. We report a rare case of fusiform aneurysms in the BA trunk. An 18-year-old female suffered a headache for 2 weeks. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance image revealed a fusiform aneurysm of the lower basilar artery trunk. Digital subtraction angiography revealed a $7.1{\times}11.0$ mm-sized fusiform aneurysm located between vertebrovasilar junction and the anterior inferior cerebellar arteries. We had good clinical result using endovascular coiling of unruptured fusiform aneurysm on the lower BA trunk with parent vessel occlusion after confirming the tolerance of the patient by balloon test occlusion with induced hypotension and accompanied by neurophysiologic monitoring, transcranial Doppler and single photon emission computed tomography. In this study, we discuss the importance of preoperative meticulous studies for avoidance of delayed neurological deficit in the patient with fusiform aneurysm on lower basilar trunk.
Occlusion force measuring and analysis is a diagnostic method of tooth dynamics through the related force analysis. In this paper, we design and implement a series of occlusion force measuring software and evaluate its utility as a base system for a new occlusion force measure and analysis system development. For the reason, we developed a group of tools to measure the normal and abnormal occlusion force. Firstly, we have visualized the occlusion force distribution with quantitative figures. The center of force (COF) variation was visualized the path of marker according to teeth dynamics and the distribution of occlusion forces in 14 tooth regions. Secondly, we have implemented a left and right tooth force balance measurement ratio tool to estimate a specific tooth region force. Furthermore, the measured occlusion force variation recorded in the software each 0.5 second. As the result of the physical examination by the accessed hardware of sensor sheet method, we confirmed the distribution and balance of forces effectively.

This research was peformed to investigate protective effect of Sophora Subprostrata fractions against focal ischemic brain damage after middle cerebral artery(MCA) occlusion using intraluminal suture. Rats were divided into six groups: MCA-occluded group(Control): each administered groups with Sophora Subprostrata total phase(Total), Sophora Subprostrata Aqueous phase (Aqueous), Sophora Subprostrata BuOH phase(BuOH), and Sophora Subprostrata Alkaloid phase(Alkaloid) after MCA-occlusion; sham-operated group(Sham). The right MCA was occluded by A poly-L-lysine coated 4-0 nylon suture thread through the internal carotid artery permanently. Sophora Subprostrata and fractions were administered orally(Smg/ml) for 7 days after MCA-occlusion. The Drain tissue was stained with $2\%$ triphenyl tetrazolium chloride on ischemic brain tissue(2mm section). The results showed that 1) Sophora Subprostrata total phase reduced infarct size and total infarct volume compared to the control group at 24 hours after MCA-occlusion, 2) Sophora Subprostrata Aqueous phase reduced infarct size and total infarct volume compared to the control group at 24 hours after MCA-occlusion, 3) Sophora Subprostrata Alkaloid phase reduced infarct size compared to the control group at 24 hours after MCA-occlusion, but 4) at 7 days after MCA-occlusion, Sophora Subprostrata did not show effective recovery compared with control group. Sophora Subprostrata has protective effects against brain damage at the early stage of focal cerebral ischemia. Sophora Subprostrata total and Aqueous phase produced more pronounced protective effect against focal ischemic brain damage.
This study was performed to investigate the relationships between the EMG activity of the masticatory muscles in Angle's Class II div. 1 malocclusion and normal occlusion. This study was ranged from age 12 to 14 year-old for 30 male subjects: 15 subjects were Angle's Class II div. 1 malocclusion, and 15 subjects were normal occlusion with acceptable profile. Their cephalometric measurement were analyzed, and the EMG recordings from the anterior temporal, posterior temporal, masseter, and orbicularis oris muscles were analyzed during rest position, mastication of peanuts, and swallowing. All data was recorded and statistically processed with the VAX-11/780 computer system. The results were as follows: 1. The activity of muscles at rest was highest in the posterior temporal muscle with normal occlusion, as well as in those with Class II div. 1 malocclusion, and the posterior temporal muscle activity of Class II div. 1 malocclusion was higher than that of normal occlusion. 2. During mastication, all muscle activities of Class II div. 1 malocclusion were recorded lower than those of normal occlusion, and the activity of the anterior temporal muscle was higher than that of the posterior temporal muscle in both types of occlusion. 3. As for the activity in orbicularis oris muscle, it was greater in opening phase than in closing phase during chewing cycle with both types of occlusion. 4. During swallowing, the activities of the anterior temporal, masseter, and orbicularis oris muscles of Class II div. 1 malocclusion were recorded lower than those of normal occlusion.

Purpose. To assess peri-implant stress distribution using finite element analysis in implant supported fixed partial denture with occlusal schemes of cuspally loaded occlusion and implant protected occlusion. Materials and methods. A 3-D finite element model of mandible with D2 bone with partially edentulism with unilateral distal extension was made. Two Ti alloy identical implants with 4.2 mm diameter and 10 mm length were placed in the mandibular second premolar and the mandibular second molar region and prosthesis was given with the mandibular first molar pontic. Vertical load of 100 N and and oblique load of 70 N was applied on occlusal surface of prosthesis. Group 1 was cuspally loaded occlusion with total 8 contact points and Group 2 was implant protected occlusion with 3 contact points. Results. In Group 1 for vertical load, maximum stress was generated over implant having 14.3552 Mpa. While for oblique load, overall stress generated was 28.0732 Mpa. In Group 2 for vertical load, maximum stress was generated over crown and overall stress was 16.7682 Mpa. But for oblique load, crown stress and overall stress was maximum 22.7561 Mpa. When Group 1 is compared to Group 2, harmful oblique load caused maximum overall stress 28.0732 Mpa in Group 1. Conclusion. In Group 1, vertical load generated high implant stress, and oblique load generated high overall stresses, cortical stresses and crown stresses compared to vertical load. In Group 2, oblique load generated more overall stresses, cortical stresses, and crown stresses compared to vertical load. Implant protected occlusion generated lesser harmful oblique implant, crown, bone and overall stresses compared to cuspally loaded occlusion.

Objective: Although chronic carotid artery occlusion seems to be associated with significant risk of ischemic stroke, revascularization techniques are neither well established nor widespread. In contrast, extracranial-intracranial bypass is common despite the lack of evidence regarding neurological improvement or prevention of ischemic events. The aim of current review is to evaluate the effectiveness of various methods of recanalization of chronic carotid artery occlusion. Methods: Comprehensive literature search through PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane and Web of Science databases performed. Various parameters were assessed among patients underwent surgical, endovascular and hybrid recanalization for chronic carotid artery occlusion. Results: 40 publications from 2005 to 2021 with total of more than 1300 cases of revascularization of chronic carotid artery occlusion have been reviewed. Further parameters were assessed among patients underwent surgical, endovascular and hybrid recanalization for chronic carotid artery occlusion: mean age, male to female ratio, mean duration of occlusion before treatment, rate of successful recanalization, frequency of restenosis and reocclusion, prevalence of ischemic stroke postoperatively, neurological or other symptoms improvement and complications. Based on proposed through reviewed literature indications for revascularization and predictive factors of various recanalizing procedures, an algorithm for clinical decision making have been formulated. Conclusions: Although treatment of chronic carotid artery occlusion remains challenging, current literature suggests revascularization as single option for verified neurological improvement and prevention of ischemic events. Surgical and endovascular procedures should be taken into account when treating patients with symptomatic chronic carotid artery occlusion.
Modern theories and concepts of occlusion for implants and natural teeth have originated in complete denture construction. Bilateral balanced occlusion as the occlusal scheme of choice has a long history in complete denture construction. The reason that occlusion has always been a consideration in the provision of removable prosthetics is because the adoption of good occlusal practice has a significant and immediate impact on the overall success of the treatment, as it affects denture stability. However, clinicians must remember that there are multiple ways, both successful and unsuccessful, to complete the restoration of a patient's occlusion. The goal is to meet the physiologic, functional, and esthetic needs of the individual patient while applying knowledge, accurate diagnosis, experience, clinical judgement, and attention to detail. This paper describes the features of an ideal occlusion in removable prosthodontics, why these features make it ideal for denture stability, and some technique for achieving these aims.
The process of the formation of polyhedra occlusion bodies and occlusion of viral nucleocapsids of Autographa californica Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus in Spodoptera frugiperda cell were photomicrographed and described. Progeny viral nucleocapsids were observed in the nuclei of the host cells, bundled and then enveloped. The nucleoapsids were mainly accumulated near the membrane-like profiles. The nuclear membrane were hypertophied up to the cytoplasmic membrane. Prepolyhedral bodies were observed and they were growing with the accumulations of thread-like materials(polypeptides) produced by viral genes. The bundled and enveloped nucleocapsids were occluded into the growing polyhedra.
Objective: To investigate the value of stimulated intrauterine insemination (IUI) in women with unilateral tubal occlusion. Methods: Superovulation and IUI was performed during 2003-2010 and the medical records were reviewed retrospectively. Thirty-seven infertile women (52 cycles) with unilateral tubal occlusion diagnosed by hysterosalpingography and without other causes of infertility were selected. One-hundred fourteen patients with unexplained infertility served as a control group (182 cycles). The main outcome was the clinical pregnancy rate per cycle. Results: The pregnancy rate per cycle was similar, 17.3% for the unilateral tubal occlusion group and 16.5% for the unexplained infertility group. The rate of miscarriage (11.1% vs. 23.3%) and ectopic pregnancy (11.1% vs. 6.7%) was similar between the two groups. The pregnancy rate was higher in patients with proximal occlusion (25.0%) compared with distal occlusion (13.9%) or unexplained infertility, but not statistically significant. Conclusion: Stimulated IUI can be suggested as the initial treatment option in women with unilateral proximal or distal tubal occlusion.

The diffuser which is conventionally adapted to MBR, has problem that decreasing the cleaning effect of membrane module by inflexible air supply due to the occlusion of sludge from diffuser hole. To solve this problem, diffuser structure of submerged module should be improved to discharge sludge which is flow into the diffuser for prevent occlusion in the diffuser. In this study, the structure of the diffuser was reformed to open lower part for preclusion the blocking. And the outlet diameter of the diffuser was drawn through the condition for the depth of water and air rate, to prevent air-leak condition of improved diffuser. Moreover, application is evaluated by comparing test with occlusion effect of the conventional and improved diffuser. From the results, air-water boundary changes are steady with changes of water depth and it shows linear relation about air rate. By using this linear numerical formula, the height of diffuser's outlet can be decided. Also, it displays that it can prevent the occlusion effect during the comparing test. Hereafter, if this diffuser is applied to practical MBR process, the occlusion problem of diffuser will be disappeared.
