Measurement and Interpretation of Undergraduate Students' Writing about the Experiments of the Photoelectric Effect

  • This study aimed at examining undergraduate students' writing about experiments related to the photoelectric effect and giving some implications for experiment education. Thus, this study analyzed 26 students' reports about three kinds of experiments: measuring Planck's constant, comparing the photocurrent and the photovoltage across the intensity of light, and comparing the photocurrent and the photovoltage across the frequency of light. In the measurements, less than 25% of the students expressed the data to the correct number of significant figures even though two-thirds of the students successfully obtained the data given in the manual. In terms of interpretation, the students were not aware of the physical meanings of the detailed parts in the graphs. Even though over 50% of the students drew a line relating photocurrent to voltage, no students compared the theoretical to the empirical data or made a judgment as to whether of not the background theory really fit the experiment. The research findings showed that insufficient knowledge and skills for physics inquiry may be an obstacle in performing the experiments well.

장애물 통과 트레드밀 보행훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 보행기능에 미치는 효과 (Comparison of the Effect of Treadmill Walking Combined With Obstacles-Crossing on Walking Function in Stroke Patients)

  • The study aimed to compare the effect of the treadmill walking training combined with obstacle-crossing (TWT-OC) and treadmill walking training (TWT) on the walking function of patients with chronic stroke. 29 subjects volunteered to participate in this study; they were randomly assigned to either TWT-OC group (15 subjects) or TWT group (14 subjects). Subjects from the TWT-OC group underwent a treadmill walking combined with obstacles-crossing for 30 minutes daily, three days a week for four weeks, whereas subjects from the TWT group received only a treadmill walking. The 10 m walk test (10MWT), 6-min walk test (6MWT), berg balance scale (BBS), timed up and go test (TUG), activities-specific balance confidence-Korean version (ABC-K), and walking ability questionnaire (WAQ) were measured before and after the 4-week training. The TWT-OC group showed significantly better functional mobility of walking and balance measured by 6MWT (p<.01), BBS (p<.01), and TUG scores (p<.05) when compared with those of the TWT group. Further, within-group comparison showed significant improvement in all variables (p<.01) except for 10MWT. These findings suggest that the TWT-OC and TWT may be helpful for improving the walking function of patients with chronic stroke, and the TWT-OC has probably more favorable outcomes for chronic stroke, however, further trials with wider range of subjects are warranted for generalization and clinical relevance.

밀리미터파 레이다 시스템을 이용한 전력선 검출

  • 군용뿐만 아니라 상업용으로 헬리콥터의 사용 빈도가 높아지면서, 무엇보다 헬기의 안정성이 가장 중요한 요소가 되었다. 단순히 조종사에 의한 시계 비행을 할 경우 야간 운항이 불가능하며 안개, 눈, 비 등의 기후 조건에서는 매우 불안전하다. 그리고 주간 비행 중에도 전선과 같은 장애물로 인한 사고가 발생하고 있다. 그러므로 헬기의 안전운항을 위해서는 단순한 시계 비행에서 벗어나 장애물 탐지 시스템을 이용한 자동항법 개념을 도입해야 한다. 자동항법을 위한 장애물 탐지 시스템은 안개, 눈, 비 등의 기후 조건하에서 주간 및 야간에도 정상적으로 동작해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 밀리미터파 레이다 시스템을 이용하여 전선 장애물의 탐지 기술 획득을 위한 기초 연구를 수행하였다. 서론에서는 헬기 운항에 장애가 되는 요소들을 탐지하기 위한 여러 방법들에 대해서 살펴봤다. 본론에서는 밀리미터파를 이용한 장애물 탐지 시스템과 실험 장치에 대해서 다루고 결론에서는 실험 결과 및 향후 연구 방향에 대해서 다루고 있다.

핀틀 형상에 따른 추력 및 항력 변화 연구 (Investigation of Effect of Shape of Pintle on Drag and Thrust Variation)

  • 본 논문에서는 수치해석과 공압실험으로 핀틀 로켓에 적용된 핀틀 형상이 추력과 항력에 미치는 영향을 분석 하여 제시하였다. 핀틀 움직임으로 노즐목 면적이 감소할 때 연소실 압력은 부드럽게 증가한다. 그리고 핀틀 몸체의 압력에 의한 추력은 연소실 압력에 비례하여 증가하였으며 노즐 벽면 압력에 의한 추력 보다 큰 값을 가졌다. 그리고 노즐 내부의 충격파가 핀틀 형상과 압력비에 따라 변하기 때문에 노즐 벽면 압력에 의한 추력은 연소실 압력에 무관하였다. 핀틀에 의한 항력은 연소실 압력과 무관하게 완전히 선형적인 핀틀 형상에 서 최소 크기를 가졌다.

  • The purpose of present study is to find design parameters and operating conditions of the HVAC system in a subway platform. The simulation was carried out for the flow, heat and mass transfer for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning(HVAC) environments in the subway platform. The steady-state. incompressible flow assumption and standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model are adopted. The location of HVAC air inlet above platform and the volume flow rate of curtain air released from inlet B are chosen as main parameters in this study. The results of present study are following: In the case of existence of train, the heat and contaminant released under the train have no effect on the average temperature and mass fraction of contaminant in the platform, but heat released on the train has influence on the average temperature in the platform. Train acts as an obstacle to exhaust the contaminant in the platform, but has good effect on the average temperature in the platform.

  • In engineering application of large eddy simulation, there are still questions as follows grid dependency on numerical results, the effect of upwind scheme against a calculation instability, appropriate boundary conditions dealing with turbulence fluctuation and the performance of SGS models. In this study, in order to develop the LES to the engineering application, large eddy simulation was carried out to investigate the effect of upwind scheme, turbulent subgrid model and the grid dependancy of the flow around a wall-mounted cube in a channel at Re=40,000 based on cubic height and bulk mean velocity. The computed velocities, turbulence quantities, separation and reattachment length were evaluated compared with the experimental results of R. Matinuzzi and C. Tropea.

  • Korea has the highest suicide rate in the world, and firefighters have the highest suicide rate among the professional population. As a result of the study, post-traumatic stress disorder education is essential in all occupations. Post-traumatic stress disorder is the most common disease and the biggest obstacle for firefighters in Korea. Firefighters who have suffered physical and mental damage in many types of disaster sites due to their extreme occupations are rapidly increasing the suicide rate in recent years. In order to maximize the effect of job training, education on post-traumatic stress disorder from new employees to leadership training is urgently needed.

화원 위치에 따른 지하 복합 발전 플랜트 내 열유동 특성 연구 (Characteristics of Thermal and Fluid Flows for Different Fire Locations in Underground Combined Cycle Power Plant)

  • 본 연구에서는 Fire Dynamics Simulation (FDS)를 이용하여 화재 기류 전파 경로 상에 플랜트 설비 유무가 공간 내 열유동 특성에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 화원 위치에 따른 지하 복합 발전 플랜트 내 화재 해석을 수행하였다. 화원의 크기는 10 MW이며, 화원 상부의 장애물(설비)의 유무에 따라 화원 위치가 천장 및 화원 상부에서의 열 기류 선단의 전파 특성을 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 비교분석하였다. 결과로서, 화원 상부에 장애물이 있을 경우, 화재 기류가 화원 상부 천장에 도달하는 시간이 장애물이 없을 때에 비해 약 5 배가량 증가하였다. 화원 상부 천장 벽면의 천장 기류 시작 지점으로부터 거리에 따른 각 지점에서 열 기류 선단의 전파 시간의 평균적으로 장애물이 없는 경우에 비해 약 70% 가량 증가하였으며, 특히 10 m 지점에서는 4 배 가까이 증가하였다. 이는 장애물이 화원으로부터 발생하는 수직 열기류의 흐름을 방해하고, 장애물 뒤 쪽에 불안정한 후류가 형성되었기 때문이다. 따라서 지하복합 발전 플랜트 내 피난 및 재난 관리의 초기 대응 목적의 화재 감지 설비 시스템 설계 시 화재 시나리오에 따른 열유동 분석이 중요할 것으로 판단된다.
