KMTNet Test Observation of Nearby Southern Galaxy Groups

  • We present a test observation result of the KMTNet Intensive Nearby Southern Galaxy group Survey (KINGS). The KINGS is designed to study nearby galaxy groups (NGC 55, NGC 253, NGC 5128, and M83 groups), taking the advantage of the wide field coverage of the KMTNet. The main goal of the KINGS is to produce extensive catalogs of dwarf galaxies, ultra compact dwarfs (UCDs), and intraglobular clusters in the galaxy groups. We will also investigate the spatial distribution of intragroup light in each group. We present a progress report of the project based on the test BVI observations of two galaxy groups. We discuss the result from the test observation and possible improvement for future observations.

다목적실용위성 3호의 지상관측확률에 관한 연구 (Surface Observation Probability System of KOMPSAT-3)

  • The surface observation probability system (SOPS) of the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) has been developed based on the climatological distribution of cloud coverage and the expected passage of satellite orbit. While the optical camera loaded on KOMPSAT series has been operated with the purpose of observing earth's surface, it cannot see the surface when an obstacle (i.e., cloud) exists between them. In the present study, cloud information of International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project incorporates into high resolution grid of the KOMPSAT-3 orbit. The characteristics of the KOMPSAT SOPS are discussed.

과학박물관 탐방활동에서 나타난 초등 과학 영재 학생들의 관찰 유형 분석 (Patterns of Observation Type of Elementary Science-gifted Students in Visit Activities of the Science Museum)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 초등 과학 영재 학생들을 대상으로 과학박물관 탐방학습을 실시하여 관찰의 유형을 분류하고 이를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 과학 영재 학생 10명을 선정하여 탐방학습이 진행되는 동안 일어나는 관찰을 언어로 표현하도록 하여 모든 관찰 내용과 대화를 녹음하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 인지적 측면에서는 응답의 빈도가 높았고 자신의 의견을 배제하고 전시물과 관련하여 질문하고 응답하는 빈도가 높았으며, 정의적 측면에서는 권유의 빈도수가 가장 많았다. 관찰의 유형을 분류하고 이를 분석한 결과에서는 단수의 관찰 대상 전체를 시간 독립적으로 관찰하는 빈도가 높고, 시각을 사용하여 조작을 하지 않고 정성적인 방법으로 관찰하는 빈도가 높았다. 따라서 질문을 통한 언어적 상호작용은 관찰의 빈도와 다양성에 긍정적인 영향을 주며, 과학박물관 탐방학습에서 과학 영재 학생들의 다양한 관찰을 유도하기 위해서는 프로젝트 학습과 같은 특정 전시관이나 전시물을 학생이 직접 선택하여 집중 탐구할 수 있는 시간이나 학습지를 마련하면 더 효과적인 관찰 학습이 이루어질 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

  • This study is a part of the architectural planning to meet the military healthcare development project according to the Korea national defense reform 2020. At this time, it is intended to identify the overall issues and to set the improvement directions of military hospital planning. Literature reviews, such as military healthcare development project, Korea national defense reform 2020, etc., and case studies for the advanced foreign military hospitals and several Korean private hospitals is analyzed. And also, field surveys, such as questionnaire collections for patients and workers, interviews with surgeons and department officials, and observation survey were conducted in order to be realistic improvement suggestions for military hospital planning issues.

Incorporating Coding on Student Experience: Lessons Learned from an Action Research

  • The purpose of this action research project was to study the effects of incorporating coding into the middle school math classroom affected student dispositions with math and their understanding of mathematical concepts. The project, involving a total of 107 US middle school students, used five data sources to examine these effects: a survey, a chart measuring student engagement, a pre- and post-assessment before and after the coding project, and teacher observation with reflection forms. After analyzing the data, it was found that incorporating coding into the middle school math classroom could have a positive impact on student math dispositions and their understanding of math concepts.

  • Korean Land Spatialization Program (KLSP) is an R&D program of the National GIS Project for developing ubiquitous GIS technologies under the control of the M inistry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (M LTM). The first program of the KLSP, which lasts from 2006 to 2012, initiated with $132 million of national funds and $42 million of private matching funds. Aiming to develop the 'Innovation of GIS technology for ubiquitous Korean land', the KLSP consists of five core research projects and one research coordination project to practically utilize and commercialize the results of core research projects. The Korean Land Spatialization Group (KLSG) is planning the KLSP Test-Bed for testing, integrating, and exhibiting the KLSP's outcomes. About 40% of the outcomes are related products to geo-sensor and wireless sensor network (W SN). Thus, interoperable, scalable and web accessible frameworks like an OGC SWE (Open Geospatial Consortium Sensor Web Enablement) are mandatory because some of the products must be connected to each other in a KLSG Test-Bed. The main objective of this paper is to introduce the KLSP Test-Bed and the SWE SOS (Sensor Observation Service) prototype, which is developed for interoperable geo-sensor networks of the KLSP.

빅데이터를 활용한 양파 관측의 사회적 후생효과 분석 (Analysis of Social Welfare Effects of Onion Observation Using Big Data)

  • This study estimated the predictive onion yield through Stepwise regression of big data and weather variables by onion growing season. The economic feasibility of onion observations using big data was analyzed using estimated predictive data. The social welfare effect was estimated through the model of Harberger's triangle using onion yield prediction with big data and it without big data. Predicted yield using big data showed a deviation of -9.0% to 4.2%. As a result of estimating the social welfare effect, the average annual value was 23.3 billion won. The average annual value of social welfare effects if big data was not used was measured at 22.4 billion won. Therefore, it was estimated that the difference between the social welfare effect when the prediction using big data was used and when it was not was about 950 million won. When these results are applied to items other than onion items, the effect will be greater. It is judged that it can be used as basic data to prove the justification of the agricultural observation project. However, since the simple Harberger's triangle theory has the limitation of oversimplifying reality, it is necessary to evaluate the economic value through various methods such as measuring the effect of agricultural observation under a more realistic rational expectation hypothesis in future studies.

우리나라 최근 지진발생 현황과 지진 및 지진해일 감시체계 (Trend of recent earthquake activity of Korea and the monitoring system earthquake and tsunami in Korea)

  • 우리나라의 최근 지진발생 추이를 보면 본격적인 게기지진관측을 시작한 1978년부터 1982년까지는 활성기 라 할 수 있으며 1983년부터 1991년까지는 조용하다가 1992년부터 지진발생 횟수가 크게 증가하는 것으로 나타나고 있다. 한편 우리나라의 계기지진관측은 1905년 일본에 의하여 시작되었는데 1943년까지 관측이 되다가 행방과 동란 등 사회적 격동기를 거치면서 관측이 중단되었다. 그후 1963년에 세계표준지진관측망의 설립에 의해서 관측이 재개되었는데 1978년 홍성지진을 계기로 본격적인 지진관측시대가 시작되었다. 기상청은 24시간 지진 및 지진해일 감시체계를 구축 운영하고있는데, 1997년부터 새로운 국가 지관측망 구축사업을 추진하고 있다. 이 사업의 결과 현재 지진관측망 27소, 가속도관측망 42소, 지진분석시스템과 수위측정계등을 설치 운영되고 있다. 앞으로 2001년까지 이를 더욱 확장하여 지진관측망을 31소로, 가속도관측망을 75소로 증성할 계획을 추진중이다.

Wind Speed Reduction Efficiency of Potenga-Muhuri Irrigation Project Coastal Belt in Chittagong, Bangladesh

  • Coastal plantation is one of the key natural defence against the tidal surge induced tropical cyclones. In Bangladesh, a total of 81 km long coastal belt was established from Potenga to Muhuri in Chittagong. This study explores the wind protection efficiency of the coastal plantations at 28 observation points along the 81 km long Potenga-Muhuri irrigation project of Chittagong coastal belt. We found that wind protection efficiency was lowest (1.40% and 7.00%) at $1^{st}$ observation point of outside the embankment (OE) and inside of the embankment (IE) than Sea Shore (SS), respectively. On the other hand, the highest (82.89% and 95.72%) wind protection efficiency was observed at $22^{th}$ observation for Outside of the Embankment (OE) and Inside of the Embankment (IE) than Sea Shore (SS), respectively. This study also highlighted on species specific wind protection efficiency. The result revealed that 6-year old Casuarina, 6-year old mixed plantation and 10-year old Sonneretia apetala with the width of 20.12 m, 30.48 m, and 15.24 m can reduce wind speed up to 30 H, 30 H and 25 H at windward side, respectively. Analysis also showed that percentage of wind reduction was significantly higher at plantation coast than barren, and ship breaking yard coast. The findings of this study have great potentiality to contribute substantially to take more coastal embankment afforestation programs by the Government of Bangladesh and to choose the more wind resistant plant species throughout the coastal areas of the country.

그래픽디자인 리서치 수행에 관한 연구 (A way of undertaking a research phase in graphic design)

  • 본 논문은 그래픽 디자인에서 디자인리서치의 중요성과 사회와 인간과 함께하는 디자인적 방법(Design tools)의 이해 고취가 목표이다. 본 연구는 총 60명을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였으며, 참여자들은 IDEO 툴킷(방법)을 활용하였다. 총 세 개의 설문조사가 이루어졌으면 두 개의 설문지는 동일한 형태로 프로젝트 참여 '사전'과 '사후'에 각각 사용되었다. 마지막은 학생들의 작업을 평가하기 위해 전문가 6인의 조사가 이루어졌다. 예비분석에서는 학생들의 프로젝트 이전의 리서치 경향 인터넷과 문헌자료에 의존도가 매우 높고 체계적인 연구의 형태를 보이지 않았다. 본 분석을 통해서는 리서치에 많은 시간을 할애하고 디자인적 방법을 사용한 그룹의 평가가 긍정적으로 나타났다. 특히, '관찰'기법을 이용한 그룹의 긍정적 평가가 높게 나타났다.
