Objective Speech Quality Measurement for Naturalness Assessment (자연성 평가를 위한 객관적 음질 평가 방법)

  • Speech quality measurement is sorted subjective and objective speech quality measurements based on the mathematics representation. Between two, subjective speech quality measurement is able to be evaluated more accurate speech quality then objective one but it has a demerit such as taking much more time and cost to performance it. However, using objective speech quality measurement being able to predict the result of evaluating the subjective speech quality compliments the demerit of subjective standards which is mentioned former. In this paper, we propose the objective speech quality measurement in order to evaluate naturalness assessment approximately like subjective speech quality measurement. We measured naturalness of speech with estimating speaking rate, variation of pitch and energy.

A Survey of Objective Measurement of Fatigue Caused by Visual Stimuli (시각자극에 의한 피로도의 객관적 측정을 위한 연구 조사)

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate and review the previous researches about objective measuring fatigue caused by visual stimuli. Also, we analyze possibility of alternative visual fatigue measurement methods using facial expression recognition and gesture recognition. Background: In most previous researches, visual fatigue is commonly measured by survey or interview based subjective method. However, the subjective evaluation methods can be affected by individual feeling's variation or other kinds of stimuli. To solve these problems, signal and image processing based visual fatigue measurement methods have been widely researched. Method: To analyze the signal and image processing based methods, we categorized previous works into three groups such as bio-signal, brainwave, and eye image based methods. Also, the possibility of adopting facial expression or gesture recognition to measure visual fatigue is analyzed. Results: Bio-signal and brainwave based methods have problems because they can be degraded by not only visual stimuli but also the other kinds of external stimuli caused by other sense organs. In eye image based methods, using only single feature such as blink frequency or pupil size also has problem because the single feature can be easily degraded by other kinds of emotions. Conclusion: Multi-modal measurement method is required by fusing several features which are extracted from the bio-signal and image. Also, alternative method using facial expression or gesture recognition can be considered. Application: The objective visual fatigue measurement method can be applied into the fields of quantitative and comparative measurement of visual fatigue of next generation display devices in terms of human factor.

Measurement of Fuzz Fibers on Fabric Surface Using Image Analysis Methods

  • Fuzz on the fabrics, which is the fibers protruded from the fabric surface, is very important in view of appearance quality, since it causes unpleasant appearance on the fabrics and also leads to pilling which makes fabric appearance and soft­ness worse. However, fuzz on fabric surface is measured mostly by subjective methods (human vision) rather than objective methods. Thus, in this study, objective method using image analysis techniques has been developed for the measurement of fuzz on fabric surface. Fuzz on the fabric has also been ranked and rated by experts in order to see the reliability of the results obtained from the fuzz measurement. It was observed that correlation coefficient (r) between rating value and objective mea­surement value was 0.9 and this correlation coefficient value confirmed the reliability of this method.

  • Fabric hand is ultimately a subjective response to physical stimuli, but there are clearly practical advantage in the development and commercial trading of textile fabrics to be gained from the replacement of the traditional subjective tactile assessment by an objective measurement evaluation method.   • Objective quality measurement schemes that in- corporate properties of the human auditory system. The basilar membrane(BM) acts as a spectrum analyzer, spatially decomposing the signal into frequency components. Each filterbank is an implementation of the ERB, gam-machirp function. This filterbank is level-dependent asymmetric compensation filters. And for the validation of the auditory model, we calculate the CPD. Quality measurement is obtained from the result.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to review the job stress measurement for applying in nuclear power plants(NPPs). Background: The standard and guideline to evaluate and manage the job stress is insufficient in NPPs. Although job stress might have a negative effect on task performance particularly it can be related with human error in NPPs. Method/Results: This paper considered the objective and subjective stress measurements. One of the questionnaire(Korean Occupational Stress Scale) and the experiment method was investigated to apply in NPPs. KOSS was analyzed about the inter item consistency and correlation with the workload, and relative importance. In the objective evaluation considered the experiment method for the physical and mental job stress and analyzed from the phased point of view. Conclusion/Application: The measurement and criteria to evaluate job stress for operators must be complemented on the job characters and environments in NPPs. This study may support to confirm and manage the job stress in NPPs. The study of more specific methodology on job stress in NPPs is required on the basis of this paper.

  • This paper is concerned with education courses operating practices for basic computer literacy training. In this study, we propose an example for students to effectively measure and evaluate the achievement of defined ability in the performance measurement and analysis, learning objectives and learning outcomes set in operation throughout the course. Through research and development use case presents the tools for teaching method and effective and objective measurement of the related subjects. And based on the results, we propose the possibility of utilizing NCS-based course operation and education certification. In this study, the measurement process is based on the association with the objective of the development and operation, and measurement tools, measuring tools for measuring learning outcomes associated with the curriculum design methods for the measurement and evaluation of the case of the operation of the course units of learning outcomes and the method proposed.

  • A driver interacts directly with the car seat at all times. There are ergonomic characteristics that have to be followed to produce comfortable seats. However, most of previous researches focused on either static or dynamic condition only. In addition, research on car seat development is critically lacking although Malaysia herself manufactures its own car. Hence, this paper integrates objective measurements and subjective evaluation to predict seat discomfort. The objective measurements consider both static and dynamic conditions. Steven's psychophysics power law has been used in which after expansion; ${\psi}\;=\;a+b{\varphi}_s^{\alpha}+c{\varphi}_v^{\beta}$ where ${\psi}$ is discomfort sensation, ${\varphi}_s^{\alpha}$ is static modality with exponent ${\alpha}$ and ${\varphi}_v^{\beta}$ is dynamic modality with exponent ${\beta}$. The subjects in this study were local and the cars used were Malaysian made compact car. Static objective measurement was the seat pressure distribution measurement. The experiment was carried out on the driver's seat in a real car with the engine turned off. Meanwhile, the dynamic objective measurement was carried out in a moving car on real roads. During pressure distribution and vibration transmissibility experiments, subjects were requested to evaluate their discomfort levels using vehicle seat discomfort survey questionnaire together with body map diagram. From subjective evaluations, seat pressure and vibration dose values exponent for static modality ${\alpha}$ = 1.51 and exponent for dynamic modality ${\beta}$ = 1.24 were produced. The curves produced from the $E_{q.s}$ showed better $R_{-sq}$ values (99%) when both static and dynamic modalities were considered together as compared to Eq. with single modality only (static or dynamic only R-Sq = 95%). In conclusion, car seat discomfort prediction gives better result when seat development considered both static and dynamic modalities; and using ergonomic approach.

Comparative Study on the Configuration Factors and Measurement Method of Yangsaeng Gigong and Psychological Skills Training (양생기공과 심리기술훈련의 구성요인과 측정평가방법의 비교 연구)

  • If we can evaluate the training results more appropriately and analyze the psychological changes in more objectively, the training can be more efficient and it can help to solve the problems during the training. This research analyzed the similarity and differences of Yangseng Qigong and psychological skill training's components and measurement methods. Also, the research further studied psychological skill training's measurement method. Results : The measurement type of Yangseng Qigong are Sagong, a record of Sagong, Damgong, IIgi, and Sogyeol. Similarly, the measurement type of psychological skills training are questionnaire, interview, personal profile, and observation of a single subject. Despite the similarities between the measurement type of Yangsaeng Qigong and psychological skills training, unfortunately there are differences in the contents. Thus, If we introduce strengths of each method to the other, we may have better measurement methods. The questionnaire method of psychological skills training is the most commonly used method, because it gives concrete, objective, reliable and highly reproducible results. If we refer to the questionnaire development process in psychological skills training, we can have objective and concrete measurement tool for Yangsaeng Qigong training. In the psychological skills training measurement tool development process, there are 5 stages; test conception, test preparation, test execution, question analysis, and test modification. Furthermore, the requirements for the good survey are reliability, validity, practicality, and cultural appropriateness. Through this study, we reached the conclusion that we need to combine two methods together to develop a better method because Yangsaeng Qigong places importance on comprehensive method and realization while psychological skills training places importance on analytical method and objective evaluation. And It seems that a practical study is needed to resolve the concerete problems of Yansaeng Qigong through these concrete cases.

A Multi-objective Placement of Phasor Measurement Units Considering Observability and Measurement Redundancy using Firefly Algorithm

  • This paper proposes a multi-objective optimal placement method of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) in large electric transmission systems. It is proposed for minimizing the number of PMUs for complete system observability and maximizing measurement redundancy of the buses, simultaneously. The measurement redundancy of the bus indicates that number of times a bus is able to monitor more than once by PMUs set. A high level of measurement redundancy can maximize the system observability and it is required for a reliable power system state estimation. Therefore, simultaneous optimizations of the two conflicting objectives are performed using a binary coded firefly algorithm. The complete observability of the power system is first prepared and then, single line loss contingency condition is added to the main model. The practical measurement limitation of PMUs is also considered. The efficiency of the proposed method is validated on IEEE 14, 30, 57 and 118 bus test systems and a real and large- scale Polish 2383 bus system. The valuable approach of firefly algorithm is demonstrated in finding the optimal number of PMUs and their locations by comparing its performance with earlier works.
