  • It is very rare to conduct an experimental design with a single objective in mind. since we have uncertainties in model and its assumptions. Basically we have three approaches in literature to handle this problem, the mini-max, compound, constrained experimental design. Since Cook and Wong (1994) announced the equivalence between the compound and the constrained design, many constrained experimental design approaches have adopted the approximate design algorithm of compound experimental design. In this paper we attempt to modify the row-exchange algorithm under exact experimental design setting, not approximate experimental design one. This attempt will provide more realistic design setting for the field experiment. In this process we proposed another criterion on how to set the constrained experimental design. A graph to show the general issue of infeasibility, which occurs quite often in constrained experimental design, is suggested.

  • The multi channel of DDI which is the core part of the LCD-TV has been propelled. When multi channel in DDI is introduced, it brings a thermal problem because of the increased power. To solve the thermal problem of the DDI it needs to be investigated each at the package level and module level. It is important to extract the junction temperature(Tj) of DDI clearly from the system level. The objective of this research is to construct a compact model. The compact model is to reduce LCD module including DDI. When the compact model is used, it will be able to easily handle the boundary condition and accurately predict the temperature. Consequently, the temperature of DDI can be calculated easily at the system level. Through this research,we also proposed the cooling plan of DDI for a protection of overheating. The cooling plan was utilized in DDI design.

  • At the time of internationalization, it is inevitable to improve the quality of products to survive the international competition. ISO 9000 series have been recognized by most companies as the quality assurance system. However, it was known to require quite many records and data which need to be controlled and analyzed. The objective of this paper is to present the procedure in establishing the quality information data base which enables a company to easily handle the required records and data for the ISO 9000 series. Examples using the quality information data base are also presented.

  • A driver model with nervous neuromuscular system was developed to steer a vehicle along the prescribed path during handling simulations. A 3-dimensional vehicle model with 10 DOF and 3 DOF steering handle are used to perform a computer simulation. PID and fuzzy controller are used to perform single and double lane change, and their tracking abilities were compared. The effects of time delay and preview distance are also investigated, and it is demonstrated that the driver model developed can be an aid far objective evaluation of vehicle handling simulation.

  • The objectives of this study are to quantitatively analyze problems and improvement directions of the comprehensive rural village development projects through DEMATEL and contents analysis. Contents analysis was conducted for 15 existing researches and 28 problems were deducted at the stage of the comprehensive rural village development projects. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory(DEMATEL), a mathematical computation method, was utilized as an objective method to handle the inner dependences within a set of problems. The results of this research are summarized as follows. First, insufficient education and publicity of project was the most considerable cause problem. Second, lack of participation, will, and ability of residents was the most considerable effect problem. Finally, several improvements of the comprehensive rural village development projects were deducted by cause and effect relationship of problems.

  • The military communication equipment is required the high reliability for operating adequate functions under severe conditions. This reliability is the essential element for the quality of the product, for the uncontrolled factors, such as the clearance, damage of the material, the reduction of stiffness, which are the designer is unable to handle. In this paper, the uncertainty for the dimension was supposed to the probability model for the military communication equipment, and the average of the objective function was minimized for reducing design uncertainty. The reliability-based design optimization which was implemented the limit state function was formulated into the mathematical model, so the reliable optimized structure was implemented than the base-line design.

  • The objective of this research is to design, manufacture and test a mass flow controller capable of measuring compressible as well as incompressible fluid flows based on a 'bucket and stop-watch' method. The basic principle behind such a system is the measurement of time, where the time taken to fill and empty a bucket of known volume is measured. This device should be able to handle fluid flows in the range of 0.1 ml/min to 10 ml/min within an accuracy of ${\pm}$1%. For the flow meter to be able to compete with established designs, it must be not only comparable in cost and robustness, but also very accurate and reliable as well.

  • For reverse engineering, curves and surfaces are modeled for new products by interpolating the digitized data points. But there are many measuring or deviation errors. Therefore, it is important to handle errors during the curve or surface modeling. If the errors are ignored, designer could get undesirable results. For this reason, fairing procedure with the aesthetics criteria is necessary in computer modeling. This paper presents methods of 3D NURBS curve fairing. The techniques are based on automatic repositioning of the digitized dat points or the NURBS curve control points by a constrained nonlinear optimization algorithm. The objective function is derived variously by derived curved. Constraints are distance measures between the original and the modified digitized data points. Changes I curve shape are analyzed by illustrations of curve shapes, and continuous plotting of curvature and torsion.

  • Since the previous cut-and-try design algorithm require much cost and time, it has recently been concerned the automatic design technique using the CFD and optimum design algorithm. In this study, the Navier-Stokes equations is solved to consider the more detail viscous flow informations of cascade interaction and O-H multiblock grid system is generated to impose an accurate boundary condition. The cubic-spline interpolation is applied to handle a relative motion of a rotor to the stator. To validate present procedure, the time averaged aerodynamic loads are compared with experiment and good agreement obtained. Once the N-S equations have been solved, the computed aerodynamic loads may be used to computed the sensitivities of the aerodynamic objective function. The Modified Method of feasible Direction(MMFD) is usef to compute the

  • A multi-point aerodynamic shape optimization technique has been developed for helicopter rotor blades in hover based on a continuous adjoint method on unstructured meshes. The Euler flow solver and the continuous adjoint sensitivity analysis were formulated on the rotating frame of reference. The 'objective function and the sensitivity were obtained as a weighted sum of the values at each design point. The blade section contour was modified by using the Hicks-Henne shape functions. The mesh movement due to the blade geometry change was achieved by using a spring analogy. In order to handle the repeated evaluation of the design cycle efficiently, the flow and adjoint solvers were parallelized based on a domain decomposition strategy. A solution-adaptive mesh refinement technique was adopted for the accurate capturing of the wake. Applications were made to the aerodynamic shape optimization of the Caradonna-Tung rotor blades and the UH-60 rotor blades in hover.
