In database management systems(DBMSs), partial rollback is a useful facility that cancels part of the executed operations upon user's requests without a total rollback. Many relational DBMSs(RDBMSs) provide this facility, However, object-orientccd DBMSs (OODBMSs) cannot utilize the previous recovery scl18lne of partial rollback usccd in (RDBMSs) since, unlike RDBMSs, they use a dual buffer consisting of an object buffer and a page buffer. Therefore, a new recovery scheme is required that rolls back the data efficiently in the dual buffer. We propose four partial rollback schemes in OODBMSs that use a dual buffer. We classify the proposed schemes into the single buffer based partial rollback scheme and the dual buffer based partial rollback scheme according to the number of buffers used for partial rollback processing. We further classify them into Uthe page buffer based partial rollback scheme, 2)the object buffccr based partial rollback scheme, 3)the dual buffer based partial rollback scheme using soft log, and 4)the dual buffer based partial rollback scheme using shadows. We evaluate the performance by mathematical analysis and experiments. The results show that the dual buffer based partial rollback scheme using shadows provides the best performance.

The generalization of geospatial data is an important way in deriving a new database from an original one. The generalization of a geospatial object changes not only its geometric and aspatial attributes but also results in propagation to other objects along their relationship. We call it generalization propagation of geospatial databases. Without proper handling of the propagation, it brings about an inconsistent database or loss of semantics. Nevertheless, previous studies in the generalization have focused on the derivation of an object by isolating it from others. And they have proposed a set of generalization operators, which were intended to change the geometric and aspatial attributes of an object. In this paper we extend the definition of generalization operators to cover the propagation from an object to others. In order to capture the propagation, we discover a set of rules or constraints that must be taken into account during generalization procedure. Each generalization operator with constraints is expressed in relational algebra and it can be converted to SQL statements with ease. A prototype system was developed to verify the correctness of extended operators.
Web-based Enterprise Intranet System is developed Object-oriented programming language and data management is constructed using RDBMS. Between Object-oriented programming language and RDBMS bring about "Object-Relational Impedance Mismatch" due to heterogeneous paradigm. To solve this kinds of problems commonly use the ORM Framework that it is converting data between incompatible type systems in databases and object-oriented programming languages, uses complex mapping metadata. It causes difficult to develop and maintain because of inflexible in changes. This paper proposed persistence framework that solve the existing complexity of ORM framework and has more flexible in evolution of database table. This persistence framework is unnecessary meta information that connecting with entity of database table and the objects, it offers users convenience of maintenance and it allows far more flexible and affordable systems to be built because of automatically code generation. The result of testing based on the proposed persistence framework with Hibernate, iBATIS, It is similar response time with iBATIS and it has more about three times faster than Hibernate. But iBATIS has problems of mass data processing.
A Web database System is a large-scaled multimedia application system that has multimedia processing facilities and cooperates with relational/Object-Oriented DBMS. Conventional hypertext modeling methods and DB gateway have limitations for Web database because of their restricted versatile presentation abilities and inefficient concurrency control caused by bottleneck in cooperation processing. Thus, we suggest a Dynamic Navigation Model & Virtual Graph Structure. The Dynamic Navigation Model supports implicit query processing and dynamic creation of navigation spaces, and introduce node-link creation rule considering navigation styles. We propose a mapping methodology between the suggested hypertext model and the relational data model, and suggest a dynamic allocation scheduling technique for query processing server based on weighted value. We show that the proposed technique enhances the retrieval performance of Web database systems in processing complex queries concurrently.
In spite of computer's development, the present state of a lot of electronic documents overflowed it's going to be more difficult to get appropriate information. Therefore it's more important to get meaningful information than to focus on the speed of processing. Semantic web enables and intelligent processing by adding semantic meta data on your web documents. Also as the semantic web grows, the knowledge resource is more important. In this paper, we propose a RDF storage system using relational database model aimed at intelligent processing by adding semantic meta data on your web documents, also a query processor aimed at query processing through the storage system. By using relational model, we could overcome a weakness of object or memory model.

There exist several versions of schema and instances created under different versions of the schema concurrently in the database in schema evolution environments. This paper proposes a mechanism for accessing instances regardless of versions in schema evolution environments in object relational databases. Access handling routines are used in accessing to the instances through the undefined attributes in the versions in which they were created. The change of semantic information of attributes is supported. Access handling routines are defined for each pair of semantics rather than defining backdate/update functions for each pair of versions of a class. A query language that accommodates version and semantic information is defined through the extension of the primitive SQL format.
Theses days, a number of data over the Internet are represented using XML because of a virtue of XML. In proportion to the increase of XML data, query processing techniques are required that support quickly and efficiently the diverse queries to search the useful information on XML documents. But, up to now, the researches handling queries for XML data are methodologies focusing on how to process regular path expressions. Therefore, we have developed a new genealogy-based indexing technique to solve various queries such as not only regular path expression but also simple path expression, path expression referencing other elements, and so on. Also, we have applied this technique on object-relational model and evaluated the performance for many documents and various query types. The result shows improved performance in comparison with the other storage techniques.
As XML has become an emerging standard for information exchange on the World Wide Web it has gained attention in database communities to extract information from XML seen as a database model. Recently, many researchers have addressed the problem of storing XML data and processing XML queries using traditional database engines. Here, most of them have used relational database systems. In this paper, we show that OODBSs can be another solution. Our technique generates an OODB schema from DTDs and processes XML queries, Especially, we show that the semi-structural part of XML data can be represented by the 'inheritance' and that this can be used to improve query processing.
In the spatial database systems, it is necessary to manage spatial objects that have two or more aspatial information with different security levels on the same layer. If we adapt the polyinstantiation concept of relational database system for these spatial objects, it is difficult to process the representation problem of spatial objects and to solve the security problem that is service denial and information flow by access of subject that has a different security level. To address these problems, we propose a polyinstantiation method for security management of spatial objects in this paper. The proposed method manages secure spatial database system efficiently by creating spatial objects according to user's security level through security-level-conversion-step and polyinstantiation-generation-step with multi-level security policy. Also, in case of user who has a different security level requires secure operations, we create polyinstance for spatial object to solve problems of service denial and information flow.
Prefetching is an effective method to minimize the number of roundtrips between the client and the server in database management systems. In this paper we propose new notions of the type-level access pattern and the type-level access locality and developed an efficient prefetchin policy based on the notions. The type-level access patterns is a sequence of attributes that are referenced in accessing the objects: the type-level access locality a phenomenon that regular and repetitive type-level access patterns exist. Existing prefetching methods are based on object-level or page-level access patterns, which consist of object0ids of page-ids of the objects accessed. However, the drawback of these methods is that they work only when exactly the same objects or pages are accessed repeatedly. In contrast, even though the same objects are not accessed repeatedly, our technique effectively prefetches objects if the same attributes are referenced repeatedly, i,e of there is type-level access locality. Many navigational applications in Object-Relational Database Management System(ORDBMs) have type-level access locality. Therefore our technique can be employed in ORDBMs to effectively reduce the number of roundtrips thereby significantly enhancing the performance. We have conducted extensive experiments in a prototype ORDBMS to show the effectiveness of our algorithm. Experimental results using the 007 benchmark and a real GIS application show that our technique provides orders of magnitude improvements in the roundtrips and several factors of improvements in overall performance over on-demand fetching and context-based prefetching, which a state-of the art prefetching method. These results indicate that our approach significantly and is a practical method that can be implemented in commercial ORDMSs.
