Foreground estimation in object segmentation has been an important issue for last few decades. In this paper we propose a GrabCut based automatic foreground estimation method using block clustering. GrabCut is one of popular algorithms for image segmentation in 2D image. However GrabCut is semi-automatic algorithm. So it requires the user input a rough boundary for foreground and background. Typically, the user draws a rectangle around the object of interest manually. The goal of proposed method is to generate an initial rectangle automatically. In order to create initial rectangle, we use Gabor filter and Saliency map and then we use 4 features (amount of area, variance, amount of class with boundary area, amount of class with saliency map) to categorize foreground and background. From the experimental results, our proposed algorithm can achieve satisfactory accuracy in object segmentation without any prior information by the user.
Current two-dimensional (2D) augmented reality (AR) devices present virtual image and information to a fixed focal plane, regardless of the various locations of ambient objects of interest around the observer. This limitation can lead to a visual discomfort caused by misalignments between the view of the ambient object of interest and the visual representation on the AR device due to a failing of the singular fusion. Since the misalignment becomes more severe as the depth difference gets greater, it can hamper visual understanding of the scene, interfering with task performance of the viewer. Thus, we analyzed the range of singular fusion (RSF) of AR images within which viewers can perceive the shape of an object presented on two different depth planes without difficulty due to the failure of singular fusion. It is expected that our analysis can inspire the development of advanced AR systems with low visual discomfort.

The main problems of computational complexity in object tracking are definition of objects, segmentations and identifications in non-structured environments with erratic movements and collisions of objects. The object's information as a region that corresponds to objects without discriminating among objects are considered. This paper describes the algorithm that, automatically and efficiently, recognizes and keeps tracks of interest-regions selected by users in video or camera image sequences. The block-based feature matching method is used for the region tracking. This matching process considers only dominant feature points such as corners and curved-edges without requiring a pre-defined model of objects. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides above 96% precision for correct region matching and real-time process even when the objects undergo scaling and 3-dimen-sional movements In successive image sequences.

This paper presents the area classification, identification, and tracking for multiple moving objects with the similar colors. To do this, first, we use the GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model)-based background modeling method to detect the moving objects. Second, we propose the use of the binary and morphology of image in order to eliminate the shadow and noise in case of detection of the moving object. Third, we recognize ROI(region of interest) of the moving object through labeling method. And, we propose the area classification method to remove the background from the detected moving objects and the novel method for identifying the classified moving area. Also, we propose the method for tracking the identified moving object using Kalman filter. To the end, we propose the effective tracking method when detecting the multiple objects with the similar colors. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithms through some experiments.

The object of this study is to provide easily-understandable mathematics class to highschool students, who usually take no interest in mathematics, by apply teaching strategy based on storytelling to real lessons. The approaching methods for the mathematics education are emphasizing the mathematical education during making storytelling-studying plans, inducing the interest of the students by applying the mathematical situations in the story. The effects of the storytelling such as induction of the interest, persistency, perception of the practicality, smooth communication between teachers and students coincides with the way national mathematical education orients. This study contains the definition of the storytelling based on education, and applicability to the students, and application to the real lessons, and verification of the effects by focus-group interview with the students and observing teachers. I made the lesson plan based on storytelling for achievements to the object of the highschool mathematical study, and searched the best way to apply the lesson plan to the real lessons. I studied designing lesson strategy based on dissertations and books and reports directly related this study, and did focus-group interview to find advantages and disadvantages of the strategy. And finally I could make the well-applicable lesson plan.

The proposed paper proposes an algorithm that automatically extracts the region of interest using image processing techniques for medical images. In general, the robust boundary segmentation technique provides robust and accurate segmentation results in object boundaries with various noise and direction generated during image acquisition through optimal segmentation of the edges considering noise characteristics and directionality in noise images. In this paper, it is possible to apply adaptive filter type and size to the structural information of the image object and apply it to the boundary division of various object objects. In addition, it is possible to divide the boundary between various noise images such as an ultrasound image and an optical image.

We propose a method that automatically classifies the images into the object and non-object images. An object image is the image with object(s). An object in an image is defined as a set of regions that lie around center of the image and have significant color distribution against the other surround (or background) regions. We define four measures based on the characteristics of an object to classify the images. The center significance is calculated from the difference in color distribution between the center area and its surrounding region. Second measure is the variance of significantly correlated colors in the image plane. Significantly correlated colors are first defined as the colors of two adjacent pixels that appear more frequently around center of an image rather than at the background of the image. Third one is edge strength at the boundary of candidate for the object. By the way, it is computationally expensive to extract third value because central objects are extracted. So, we define fourth measure which is similar with third measure in characteristic. Fourth one can be calculated more fast but show less accuracy than third one. To classify the images we combine each measure by training the neural network and SYM. We compare classification accuracies of these two classifiers.
We present a region-based approach for accurate pose estimation of small mechanical components. Our algorithm consists of two key phases: Multi-view object co-segmentation and pose estimation. In the first phase, we explain an automatic method to extract binary masks of a target object captured from multiple viewpoints. For initialization, we assume the target object is bounded by the convex volume of interest defined by a few user inputs. The co-segmented target object shares the same geometric representation in space, and has distinctive color models from those of the backgrounds. In the second phase, we retrieve a 3D model instance with correct upright orientation, and estimate a relative pose of the object observed from images. Our energy function, combining region and boundary terms for the proposed measures, maximizes the overlapping regions and boundaries between the multi-view co-segmentations and projected masks of the reference model. Based on high-quality co-segmentations consistent across all different viewpoints, our final results are accurate model indices and pose parameters of the extracted object. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method using various examples.

This paper describes an algorithm for semantic video object tracking using semi automatic method. In the semi automatic method, a user specifies an object of interest at the first frame and then the specified object is to be tracked in the remaining frames. The proposed algorithm consists of three steps: object boundary projection, uncertain area extraction, and boundary refinement. The object boundary is projected from the previous frame to the current frame using the motion estimation. And uncertain areas are extracted via two modules: Me error-test and color similarity test. Then, from extracted uncertain areas, the exact object boundary is obtained by boundary refinement. The simulation results show that the proposed video object extraction method provides efficient tracking results for various video sequences compared to the previous methods.
In this thesis, an object tracking method based on the active feature model and the optical flow in stereo images is proposed. We acquired the translation information of object of interest and the features of object by utilizing the geometric information and depth of stereo images. Tracking performance is improved for the occlude object with this information by predicting the movement information of features of the occlude object. Rigid and non-rigid objects are experimented. From the result of experiment, the OOI can be real-time tracked from complicate back ground. Besides, we got the improved result of object tracking in any occlusion state, no matter what it is rigid or non-rigid object.
