  • The purpose of this study is to propose the Design Object Model for implementation of an integrated structural design system for building structures. This study outlines the step-by-step development methodologies of the Design Object Model, which covers classification and modeling of the building design information. The Design Object Model has been efficiently developed through the proposed development methodologies. As a result, the Design Object Model has been proved to be efficient in design information management by representing the information from planning perspective, in recognition of structural member in space by the topology design object, and in representation of analysis s design information.

  • Rapid object recognition is one of the main stream research themes focusing to reveal how human recognizes object and interacts with environment in natural world. This field of study is of consequence in that it is highly important in evolutionary perspective to quickly see the external objects and judge their characteristics to plan future reactions. In this study, we investigated how human detect natural scene objects and categorize them in a limited time frame. We applied Magnetoencepahlogram (MEG) while participants were performing detection (e.g. object vs. texture) or basic-level categorization (e.g. cars vs. dogs) tasks to track the dynamic interaction in human brain for rapid object recognition process. The results revealed that detection and categorization involves different temporal and functional connections that correlated for the successful recognition process as a whole. These results imply that dynamics in the brain are important for our interaction with environment. The implication from this study can be further extended to investigate the effect of subconscious emotional factors on the dynamics of brain interactions during the rapid recognition process.

  • This study pursues the problems of plan photogrammetry which is widely used in somatotyping at present, and find out a method which can improve accuracy of measurement on the basis of principles and mechanisms of photography-the basic foundation of the photographic analysis methods. As a result, this study proposes a new method which is based on the reference point method and perspective coordinate system. And the test measurement was operated to compare the measurement accuracy of the proposed method and the method based on reference grid screen method and perpendicular coordinate system which is commonly used at present. The result of this test measurement showed that the proposed method has higher accuracy. Two reasons can be pointed out for the improvement of measuring accuracy. The first reason is that the proposed perspective coordinate system reduces the perspective distortion of photography. And second reason is that measuring points can be closely placed to the scale and coordinate reference plan of measurement by the proposed reference point method which make possible to place measuring object (or person) at the center of scale and coordinate reference plan by utilizing reference points of measurement in the three dimensional space not on screen.

  • Factorization asks the recognition of the structure of polynomials, compared to polynomial expansion with process characteristic. Therefore it makes students experience a lot of difficulties. This study aims to figure out causes of the difficulties by identifying students' cognitive characteristics in factorizing in the perspective of 'structure sense'. To do this, we gave six factorizing problems of three types to middle school students and selected six participants as interviewees based on the test results. They were classified into two categories, structure sense and non-structure sense. Through this interview, we figured out the interviewee's cognitive characteristics and the causes of difficulty in the perspective of structure sense. Furthermore, we suggested some didactical implications for encouraging structure sense in factorizing by identifying assistances and obstacles for recognition of structures.

  • The position as saying that the math learning needs to begin from what diversely presents concrete object or familiar situation is well known as a name dubbed CSA(Concrete-Semiconcrete-Abstract). Compared to this, a recent research by Kaminski, et al. asserts that learning an abstract concept first may be more effective in the aspect of knowledge transfer than learning a mathematical concept with concrete object of having various contexts. The purpose of this study was to analyze a class, which differently applied a guidance sequence of concrete object, semi-concrete object, and abstract concept in consideration of this conflicting perspective, and to confirm its educational implication. As a result of research, a class with the application of a concept starting from the concrete object showed what made it have positive attitude toward mathematics, but wasn't continued its effect, and didn't indicate significant difference even in achievement. Even a case of showing error was observed rather owing to the excessive concreteness that the concrete object has. This error wasn't found in a class that adopted a concept as semi-concrete object. This suggests that the semi-concrete object, which was thought a non-essential element, can be efficiently used in learning an abstract concept.

  • A fast and precise technique to measure 3-dimensional coordinates of an object is proposed. It is essential to take the 3-dimensional measurements of the object in design and inspection. Using this developed system a surface model of a complex shape can be constructed. 3-dimensional world coordinates are projected onto a camera plane by the perspective transformation, which plays an important role in this measurement system. According to the shape of the object two measuring methods are proposed. One is rotation of an object and the other is translation of measuring unit. Measuring speed depending on image processing time is obtained as 200 points per second. Measurement resolution i sexperimented by two parameters among others; the angle between the laser beam plane and the camera, and the distance between the camera and the object. As a result of these experiments, it was found that measurement resolution ranges from 0.3mm to 1.0mm. This constructed surface model could be used in manufacturing tools such as rapid prototyping machine.

  • Currently many companies and cyber-universities are investing large amount of time and efforts to develop a standard for Web-based learning contents. Among various standards proposed, SCORM(Sharable Content Object Reference Model) has been especially interested regarding web contents and LCMS(Learning Content Management System), In contrast with corporate and adult education, many seem to be skeptical that SCORM could be applied to K-12 education. In the study, opportunities and limitations of the concept for the learning object in 'SCORM' are examined through analyzing relevant studies and cases. In addition, this study examines the learning object in the pedagogical Perspective, and derives suggestions for applying them to K-12 education.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the Depaysement techniques in a new perspective, which are applicable to fashion window display. It was investigated by studying the case of Depaysement expressed in contemporary fashion window display. The analysis object of this study was limited to window displays shown at the world's most famous department stores in the last five years. The data was collected through related specialty publications and each department store's websites. The framework for analysis of this study is established by relevant precedent studies. The results of this study were drawn form comparative quantitative analysis from an expert group. Through the study, the characteristics of Depaysement in the contemporary fashion window display were classified into 'Change of forms and materials', 'Heterogeneous combination of objects', 'Location change of an object', 'Conversion of recognition on an object' and 'Change of spatial awareness'. The expression approaches were 'Change of scale', 'Change of materials', 'Combination of heterogeneous objects', 'Heterogeneous combination', 'Arrangement of object in a strange space', 'Change of display method', 'Overlapped object', 'Paradoxical image', 'Variable awareness of boundary' and 'Reorganization of interior space and change of materials'.

  • This paper describes a distance estimation method of object's motion in soccer image sequence by tracking field features. And we quantitatively evaluate the estimation accuracy We suppose that the input image sequence is taken with a camera on static axis and includes only zooming and panning transformation between frames. Adaptive template matching is adopted for non-rigid object tracking. For background compensation, feature templates selected from reference frame image are matched in following frames and the matched feature point pairs are used in computing Affine motion parameters. A perspective displacement field model is used for estimating the real distance between two position on Input Image. To quantitatively evaluate the accuracy of the estimation, we synthesized a 3 dimensional virtual stadium with graphic tools and experimented on the synthesized 2 dimensional image sequences. The experiment shows that the average of the error between the actual moving distance and the estimated distance is 1.84%.

  • This paper presents a new method which is calculated to use only three vanishing points in order to compute the dimensions of object and its pose from a single image of perspective projection taken by a camera. Our approach is to only compute three vanishing points without informations such as the focal length and rotation matrix from images in the case of perspective projection. We assume that the object can be modeled as a linear function of a dimension vector v. The input of reconstruction is a set of correspondences between features in the model and features in the image. To minimize each the dimensions of the parameterized models, this reconstruction of optimization can be solved by standard nonlinear optimization techniques with a multi-start method which generates multiple starting points for the optimizer by sampling the parameter space uniformly.
