Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect the of treatment in obesity clinic in east-west collaboration center, furthermore to search for how to join and improve east medicine and west medicine more closely. Methods : 37 patients were classified into four groups by Body Mass Index(BMI); normal, overweight, 1st obesity and 2nd obesity groups. Weight, BMI, body fat rate and abdominal fat rate were compared in each group by paired t-test. Results & Conclusions : In distribution of sex, male were 10(27%), female were 27(73%). Mean age was $34{\pm}13$ and the patients in twenties un the most. Among four groups, the number of End obesity groups was the most. Most patients had a preference for western medication and ear acupuncture therapy. In general we could find the correlation between the effect of obesity treatment and the degree of obesity. The more the obesity degree was, the more weight loss was.
Objectives: Obesity is a growing epidemic with subsequent health consequences leading not only to reduced quality of life but also to increased medical costs. Recently nutritional balances are emphasized in the field of obesity, and especially maintaining proper equilibriums of minerals. The correlation of minerals obtained from the method of HTMA(Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) with obese degree has not been studied in Korea yet. We studied any significant difference of mineral concentrations and components according to the obese degree. Methods: 78 subjects were analyzed who visited Garosero clinic of oriental medicine to lose their weight from June to November 2004. We used BMI(Body Mass Index), PBF(Percent Body Fat), WHR(Waist-Hip Ratio) and abdominal circumference obtained by bio-electrical impedance analysis as an obese degree. And we analyzed correlation with mineral concentrations and ratios obtained from HTMA. Results & Conclusion: 1. Na, K, Zn, Se had significant correlation with obese degree in case of nutritional minerals from HTMA. Especially, K had high significance. 2. Toxic minerals from HTMA had no significance with obese degree. 3. Rb had significant correlation with obese degree in case of additional minerals from HTMA. 4. Among important ratios from HTMA, Na/K had significant correlation with obese degree, but Ca/K had correlation except PBF, and Na/Mg had correlation except WHR. 5. Among toxic ratios from HTMA, Se/Hg had significant correlation with obese degree, but S/Hg had correlation except BMI. 6. Na, K, Zn, Rb, Na/K, Ca/K had significant differences between obesity groups classfied by BMI. Ob II group had sinificant difference from NW group in cases of K, Zn, Rb, Na/K, and Ob II group had sinificant difference from OW group in case of Ca/K.
Objectives : The purposes of this study are to evaluate the effect of treatment in obesity clinic in Dae-Gu Hanny University and to improve the oriental medical methods of treatment in obesity patients. Methods : 62 patients were classified into four groups by Body Mass Index(BMI) : normal, overweight, 1st obesity and 2nd obesity groups. Weight, BMI, body fat rate and abdominal fat rate were compared in each group by t-test. Results : In distribution of sex, male were 10(16.1%), female were 52(83.9%). Mean age was $31.0{\pm}2.59$ and the patients in twenties and thirties were the most. Mean weight was $71.80{\pm}4.08kg$ and 1st obesity group(23) was the most. Mean BMI was $27.11{\pm}1.20(kg/m^2)$. BMI Changes in obesity groups treated by obesity clinic were $0.95{\pm}0.68kg/m^2$ in normal group, $1.45{\pm}0.38kg/m^2$ in overweight group, $2.67{\pm}0.48kg/m^2$ in 1st obesity group and $4.01{\pm}1.10kg/m^2$ in 2nd obesity group. The changes in all groups were significant. The more the obesity degree was. the more weight loss was. Conclusions : The weight and BMI in patients were almost decreased significantly when they treated. It resulted that the effect of oriental medical treatment in obesity was positive. This study is the effect of treatment in obesity by several medical methods and it is thought that the study of the effects of treatment in obesity by each medical methods that were used in this study is necessary.

Objectives: The aim of study was to investigate the effect of herbal medicine on obesity and to define which seasonal factor could be utilized to make an obesity treatment program more effective. Methods: Three hundred and forty-four subjects were recruited and data were analyzed for weight, body fat, muscular volume, body fat ratio, body mass index (BMI) change and treatment duration. At first, age classification was performed for the comparisons. Moreover, starting season of treatment was categorized to determine it's influence over the treatment. Results: It was found the administration of herbal medicine could diminish every analyzed fields of entire patients. Compared among age groups, there were no significant differences of all fields. However, the categorization of start season showed significant differences of weight, BMI change and treatment duration. In addition, the analysis of assumed 10% weight loss elicited patients started treatment in spring and winter should spend 12 and 13 weeks and summer would be 9.5 weeks. Conclusions: It was found herbal medicine would be effective for female obesity and expected patients could achieve 5.91 kg weight loss for 65.88 days treatment. Summer group had significant shorter treatment duration and it was presumed summer group had more concentration for achievement. Days required for assumed 10% weight loss was calculated to be 84 days in spring, 67 days in summer, 96 days in winter. Hereafter, further controlled study with more numbers of patients should be needed to determine the goal of medical treatment for obesity.
Objectives: Acceptability of patients towards obesity treatment program is associated with better weight loss outcomes. The purpose of this study was to review previously published study results of the predictive factors associated with patients' acceptability in obesity treatment. Methods: Authors searched for the articles related to acceptability reported as continuation, attendance and adherence, published from 2011 to 2018 found on Pubmed, Scopus, Research Information Sharing Service, and Koreanstudies Information Service System. A total of 23 articles were finally selected. From the study results, unchangeable and changeable predictors were extracted, and these predictors were examined according to detail categories. Results: Regarding the continuation of the treatment, unchangeable factors such as younger age, lower educational level, male sexuality and lower accessibility to physical activity predicted lower continuation. Furthermore, changeable factors such as early and half weight loss, better accessibility to the treatment and financial incentives for retention predicted higher continuation rate. Greater degree of attendance was predicted by unchangeable factors such as economical affordability, and changeable predictors such as half weight loss and proximity to the clinic. Main factors of adherence to the recommendation were unchangeable predictors such as weight loss experience, and changeable predictors such as more physical activity and appropriate dietary habits. Negative psychological state predicted lower continuation, attendance and adherence rate. Conclusions: Our review results suggest that unchangeable and changeable predictors of acceptability of patients should be carefully examined during treatments of obesity.

Objectives: Eating self-efficacy is an important predictor of successful weight control behaviors during obesity treatment. The Weight Efficacy Life-Style Questionnaire (WEL) is an internationally used measure of eating self-efficacy. The objective of this study was to develop the Korean version of WEL (K-WEL) and verify face validity. Methods: According to previously published guidelines, the cross-cultural translation was conducted through organizing the expert committee, translation, back-translation, synthesis, grammar review, and final synthesis. Following the translation of the WEL into Korean, face validity was performed for 35 subjects. Results: After all the versions of the questionnaire were examined, the translated WEL questionnaires were finally synthesized and licensed by the developer in writing. Regarding the translated WEL questionnaires, seven out of 35 subjects (20%) offered ideas about ambiguous expressions in them. All four points indicated in the face validity verification were additionally modified for greater clarity and understanding. Conclusions: We developed the Korean version of WEL and completed face validity. In future research, it would be necessary to provide further study on the reliability and validity of the Korean version of WEL.
Objectives : Many women associate one or more of their pregnancies with the development of adult obesity. This study was designed to determine influencing factors on postpartum weight retention and whether the breast-feeding was available to weight loss in puerperium. Methods : Articles from the literature on 'postpartum weight retention' were examined. Results : These articles show that different factors were related with postpartum weight retention. This study suggests that moderate weight gain during pregnancy is important to prevent postpartum maternal obesity. Especially weight gain from 20 weeks to 36 weeks of pregnancy is important. Falling in depression and anxiety during postpartum period should be avoided and social support is also needed. Delivery at the financially secure status is also recommended. Sufficient physical activity and exercise are needed to prevent from postpartum weight retention. Weight loss with dieting and exercise during lactation don't have a bad influence on the growth of infants.
Objectives: This retrospective study attempted to determine whether the treatment effect improves as the longer the medication for obese patients, also, analyzed whether the long medication increases the burden on liver function. Methods: The subjects were 278 overweight and obese female patients who took the herbal medicine Jibangsayak (JBSY) for more than 15 days. The correlation between the duration of medication and the treatment effect was confirmed, and the correlation with the safety was also analyzed. Results: JBSY significantly reduced all obesity-related measures after treatment. All these valuables before treatment were not factors in determining the duration of medication. As the duration increased, the body mass index (BMI) improvement decreased and lean body and muscle mass increased. As the duration was closer to 60 days, BMI improvement increased, and in more than 90 days group, the BMI and body fat percentage improvement stagnated as the duration longer. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase, and gamma-glutamyl transferase decreased after treatment. Additionally, AST decreased as the duration increased. Conclusions: This result suggests that not only the high obesity-related measures at first visit not lengthen the duration of JBSY medication. And liver function levels did not worsen as the duration increased. This result is different from the general perception that the longer the duration of medication, the greater the burden on patient's drug metabolism. However, the fact that other factors that could affect liver function could not be excluded and that kidney function evaluation should have been performed simultaneously are limitations of this study and require more detailed research in the future.
