  • Since 2007, Insurance Institute of Highway Safety(IIHS) has conducted the new bumper test using bumper barrier to estimate the repair cost of impacted vehicle. In this study, for the front body FE model of a medium size passenger car analyzes were carried out to optimize the shape of backbeam center reinforcement bracket. First, overlap effect was examined with changing the overlap magnitude and spot welds were added along the backbeam center line for reducing the section shear deformation. Next, for an overlap model design parameter study was performed for the bracket. Thickness effect was examined and an inner reinforcement was added to the bracket. Also, the lower part of bracket was deleted and additionally the bracket length was extended. The results were discussed in terms of backbeam backward deflection, barrier backstop intrusion and weight. Compared with the current design, the final model showed 44.1% bracket weight reduction with 30.0% decrease of backbeam deflection.

  • Comparing to general scanning data, the 3D digital map for large construction sites and complex buildings consists of millions of points. The large construction site needs to be scanned multiple times by drone photogrammetry or terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) survey. The scanned point cloud data are required to be registrated with high resolution and high point density. Unlike the registration of 2D data, the matrix of translation and rotation are used for registration of 3D point cloud data. Archiving high accuracy with 3D point cloud data is not easy due to 3D Cartesian coordinate system. Therefore, in this study, iterative closest point (ICP) registration method for improve accuracy of 3D digital map was employed by different overlap ratio on 3D digital maps. This study conducted the accuracy test using different overlap ratios of two digital maps from 10% to 100%. The results of the accuracy test presented the optimal overlap ratios for an ICP registration method on digital maps.

  • A profile shifted gear system was analyzed to select the optimum profile shift coefficient, which minimizes gear teeth deflection. Contact force and deformation overlap were calculated by means of FEM and contact theory. The deformation overlap is suggested for an effective indicator to represent the whole deformation of gear system. The optimum value of profile shift coefficients was presented with respect to the deformation of gear system.

  • This paper studies interconnection of DCS1800 and GSM900 dual-band networks. Two types of interconnection config-urations for GSM services, non-overlap and overlap, are described. We propose analytic and simulation models to investigate the ben-efit of the overlap configuration. Our results explain how the radio channel capacities, the inter-system handoff failure rate, the origi-nating call traffic ratio and the offered loads affect the system per-formance. This study indicates that with appropriate overlap con-figuration, the GSM dual-band network can significantly improve the quality of cellular service.

  • Two-dimensional computer simulations were conducted on percolation structure in which second phases of various aspect ratios were arranged in a lattice (matrix). The second phases were randomly arranged in an array with two different computational programs; one prohibiting an overlap among second phases and the other allowing the overlap. From the simulation prohibiting the overlap, it was predicted that a complete path was formed at less amounts of the second phase with higher aspect ratios. In the simulation allowing the overlap, a complete path throughout the array was formed by arranging the second phase of an aspect ratio of 1. 5, 20, 100 with less than 59%, 43%, 19%, 4% in the array, respectively.

  • Using data on the U.S. automobile industry between 1979 and 1999, we have investigated the impact of inter-divisional domain overlap on a division's product differentiation vis-$\grave{a}$-vis sister divisions. The results show that the higher the level of inter-divisional domain overlap, relative to the focal division's own domain, the higher the chances of locating a new product closer to the existing products of a sister division, thereby decreasing product differentiation vis-$\grave{a}$-vis this sister division. We argue that this is due to a high level of similar capabilities between the two divisions and the division with less distinctive capabilities may have little choice but to launch a new product that is close to the products of the other division.

  • Problems of overlap errors and side-lobe printing by the design rule reduction in the lithography process using attenuated phase-shifting masks(attPSM) have been serious. Overlap errors and side-lobes can be simultaneously solved by the rule-based correction using scattering bars with the rules extracted from test patterns. Process parameters affecting the attPSM lithography simulation have been determined by the fitting method to the process data. Overlap errors have been solved applying the correction rules to the metal patterns overlapped with contact/via. Moreover, the optimal insertion rule of the scattering bars has made it possible to suppress the side-lobes and to get additional pattern fidelity at the same time.

  • In this paper the gate overlap length of the LDMOST is optimized for obtaining longer device lifetime. The LDMOSI device with drift region is fabricated using the $0.25\;{\mu}m$ CMOS Process. The gate overlap lengths on drift region are $0.1\;{\mu}m,\;0.4\;{\mu}m\;0.8\;{\mu}m\;and\;1.1\;{\mu}m$, respectively. The breakdown voltages, on-resistances and hot-carrier degradations of the fabricated LDMOST devices are characterized. The LDMOST device with gate overlap length of $0.4\;{\mu}m$ showed the longest on-resistance lifetime, 0.02 years and breakdown voltage of 22 V and on-resistance of $23\;m\Omega{\cdot}mm^2$.

  • To maximize the storage density in a localized hologram recording method, each hologram should be recorded as close as possible to its neighboring holograms. In this case, the reference beams used to record two adjacent holograms may overlap in spatial multiplexing. Through simulations and experiments, we show that there exists an optimal reference beam size to minimize the overlap for a given shifting distance of the reference beams in spatial multiplexing. Thus the advantages of the localized hologram recording method can be minimally sacrificed while the storage density is increased.
