The experimental analysis presented aims at the selection of the most optimal machining parameter combination for wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) of STD11. Based on the Taguchi experimental design ($L_{27}$ orthogonal array) method, a series of experiments were performed by considering time-on, voltage, time-off, wire speed, and flow rate as input parameters. The surface roughness was considered responses. Based on the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, the influence of the input parameters on the responses was determined. The optimal machining parameters setting for the minimum surface roughness was found using Taguchi methodology. In order to investigate the effects of process parameters on the surface machined by WEDM, Several experiments are conducted to consider effects of time-on, voltage, time-off, wire speed and flow rate on the surface roughness. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) as well as regression analysis are performed on experimental data. The best results of surface roughness were obtained at higher voltage, lower wire speed, and lower time-on.

In this paper, we suggested a method for evaluating the type-I/II error which is proposed by the CCITT as a criterion for the accuracy of policing algorithms in ATM networks, By the analysis of the type-I/II error of the Leaky Bucket(LB) algorithm, we investigated the relationships between the traffic parameters and the LB parameters to police the mean and peak cell rate effectively in the ON/OFF traffic. We showed that the LB parameters, the leaky rate a and the threshold M of the LB counter, could be determined as a pair of (a, M) satisfying the type-I/II error and minimizing the response time. In the ON/OFF traffic, it has been observed that the a-M characteristic curve of the LB policing algorithm only depends on the burstiness. As the results of the performance analysis, we found that the LB algorithm exhibits a good performance in the peak rate policing, but has some problems in the mean rate policing due to the trade-off between the accuracy and the response time.
The droplet ejection behavior from drop-on-demand printhead are investigated numerically for Newtonian and shear-thinning fluid. The numerical simulation is performed using a volume-of-fluid model. In this study, we compare the printable range in terms of Z number and pinch-off time for Newtonian and shear-thinning fluids. The printability range are found to be 1.08 $$\leq_-$$ Z $$\leq_-$$ 12.9 for Newtonian fluid and 0.8 $$\leq_-$$ Z $$\leq_-$$ 12.9 for shear-thinning fluid. However, air entrainment is observed during merging of primary and satellite droplet within the printability range. The pinch-off time of the shear-thinning fluid is apparently shorter compared to the corresponding Newtonian fluid due to shear-thinning effects and the differences in the pinch-off time is enlarged significantly when the capillary number is larger than 0.5.

Hydrogenation on the top gate and bottom gate Poly-Si TET's was performed by using Nh$_{3}$ plasma and annealing SiN film deposited by PECVD and then the electric characteristics on Poly-Si TET were investigated. As the time of NA$_{3}$ plasma treatment increaes, on/off current ratio gradually increases and the swing value decreases. The trap densities of graim boundaries in Poly-Si decrease very much during the inital 20min of hydrogenation time, and the decreasing scale becomes smaller after 20 min. The electric characteristics of the top gate TFT are better than those of the bottom gate TFT, it is considered due to the defects at the interface between the Poly-Si and the underlayer, SiO$_{2}$. After NH$_{3}$ plasma was treated for 2 hours for the top gate TFT, as the aging time atroon temperature increases on current was not scacely changed and off current decreases more than 1 order. Gate current density recovers to original value after the aging treatment for 8 days and then the electric characteristics are finally improved. It is suggested that the degraded characteristics of gate oxide are improved, from the variations of C-V characteristics with aging time. For the hydrogenation of isothermal and isochronal annealing SiN film deposited by PECVD, the characteristics of Poly-Si TFT are improved with increasing annealing temperature and are not largely changed with increasing annealing time. This results is good in agreement with the hydrogen reduction in Sin film as variations of annealing temperature and time.

This paper presnts a controller for the heat capacity of thermal storage systems using off-peak electricity which is composed of an identifier using neural networks and a storage time adjuster in order to store exactly the required thermal energy without loss. Since thermal storage systems have nonlinear characteristics and large time constant, even if we predict the heating load accurately, it is very difficult to store exactly the required thermal energy. Thus, in the neural network for the identifier, the adaptive learning rate for high learning speed and bit inputs based on state changes of thermal storage power source are used. Also a hardware for the controller using a microprocessor is developed. The performance of the proposed controller is shown by experiment.

This paper presents a study of tool-life equation on cut-off test by the statistical approach, referred to as response surface methodology instead of a conventional one-variable at a time method. It is the merit of response surface methodology that the test time is reduced to minimize the size and accurate analysis can be done. The reliability of such an equation can also be estimated. Two independent variables, cutting speed and feed rate, were investigated. A first order modeling equation is presented in this project. The results of this study are as follows that tool-life in cut-off operation is affected by cutting speed more than feed, and first order tool-life predicting equations are in good agreement with experimental results.
In this study, screw machining system by use of a rotational tool such as an end-mill or a face cutter with Y axis off-set on a CNC turing center was developed for quick machining. In this system, It was possible to use different tools for different processes, and by off-setting the tool in Y direction by calculated amount it was possible to avoid tool interference problem which could occur within the central area at the end of a tool. In addition, machining a screw with a helix of up to 3 different leads combined and with tapered minor diameter was possible.

Almost all network systems provide an authentication mechanism based on user ID and password. In such system, it is easy to obtain the user password using a sniffer program with illegal eavesdropping. The one-time password and challenge-response method are useful authentication schemes that protect the user passwords against eavesdropping. In client/server environments, the one-time password scheme using time is especially useful because it solves the synchronization problem. It is the stability that is based on Square Root Problem, and we would like to suggest PBI(password Based Identification), enhancing the stability, for all of the well-known attacks by now including Off-line dictionary attack, password file compromise, Server and so on. The PBI is also excellent in the aspect of the performance.

We present CReMeS a CORBA-compliant design and implementation of a new real-time communication service. It provides for efficient predictable and scalable communication between information producers and consumers. The CReMeS architecture is based on MidART's Real-Time Channel-based Reflective Memory (RT-CRM) abstraction. This architecture supports the separation of QoS specification between producer and consumer of data and employs a user-level scheduling scheme for communicating real-time tasks. These help us achieve end-to-end predictability and allows our service to scale. The CReMeS architecture provides a CORBA interface to applications and demands no changes to the ORB layer and the language mapping layer. Thus it can run on non real-time Off-The-Shelf ORBs enables applications on these ORBs to have scalable and end-to-end predictable asynchronous communication facility. In addition an application designer can select whether to use an out-of-band channel or the ORB GIOP/IIOP for data communication. This permits a trade-off between performance predictability and reliability. Experimental results demonstrate that our architecture can achieve better performance and predictability than a real-time implementation of the CORBA Even Service when the out-of-band channel is employed for data communication it delivers better predictability with comparable performance when the ORB GIOP/IIOP is used.
The temperature effect at $20^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$ on the nutrient removal efficiency was evaluated in the combined biological nutrient removal system (CBNR) with anaerobic-intermittent aerobic-oxic reactors. The test was conducted under the conditions of various ratios of intermittent aeration time and distribution of influent raw water to CBNR. The removal efficiencies of organics, nitrogen and phosphorus were a little bit better at $20^{\circ}$ than at $10^{\circ}$. However the large difference of temperature effect on the nutrient removal efficiency between $20^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$ was not appeared because of highly sustained MLSS concentrations in the reactors and controlled intermittent aeration time. In the removal of phosphorus, Mode III (50/70 min in aeration on/off time, 3 times of intermittent aeration) showed more effective compared with short aeration time of Mode IV. In case of N, P removal, the denitrification rate was lower in Mode A with splitted inflow into anaerobic and intermittent aeration basins than in Mode B with sole inflow into anaerobic basin.
