Automatic concentration control system for pretreatment of dyeing was set up with adaptive control system supported by Fuzzy logic for the high speed successive pretreatment of fabric. Concentration of pretreatment bath was determined by the conductivity due to the ionized NaOH. Usability of this system was also evaluated with 30wt% of NaOH (conductivity of 0.25 S/cm) as an initial concentration. Conductivity fluctuated between 0.31 and 0.17 S/cm. This range accorded with the 21-35wt% of NaOH concentration.
Houttuynia cordata (Saururaceae) has pungent smell and taste. It has been regarded as detoxicant, antipyretic, antiinflammantory and diuretic agents. In order to evaluate antioxidative and antilipidperoxidative efficacies, its fractions ($H_2O$, 20% MeOH, 40% MeOH, 60% MeOH, 170% MeOH) were measured by DPPH method and TBARS assay on rat liver homogenate. It was revealed that 60% MeOH fractions had potential antioxidative activity and inhibited lipid peroxidation significantly: In active fractions, we isolated rutin, hyperin, quercitrin and quercetin.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface characteristics and response of osteoblast-like cell at SLA surface treated with NaOH. Materials and methods: Three kinds of specimens were fabricated for the experiment groups. Control group was a machined surface, SLA group was a conventionally SLA treated surface, and SLA/NaOH gorup was SLA surface treated with NaOH. To evaluate the surface characteristics, the surface elemental composition (XPS), surface roughness and surface contact angle were evaluated in each group. And the cytotoxicity, cell adhesion, cell proliferation and ATP activity of osteoblast-like cells (MG-63 cells) were compared in each group for evaluatation of the cell responses. Statistical comparisons between groups were carried out via one-way ANOVA using the SPSS software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, USA), and then performed multiple comparisons. The differences were considered statistically significant at P<.05. Results: SLA surface treated with NaOH (SLA / NaOH group) was changed to hydrophilic surface. All groups did not show the cytotoxicity to the MG-63. In cell adhesion studies, SLA / NaOH group showed the higher degree of adhesion than anothers (P<.05), Up to 7 days of incubation, the proliferation was showed the increasing tendency in all groups but SLA / NaOH group showed the highest cell proliferation between the three groups (P<.05). At 7 days of incubation, there was no difference in ALP activities between the three groups, but at 14 days, SLA / NaOH group showed significant increase in ALP activities (P<.05). Conclusion: In this study, SLA surface treated with NaOH promoted cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. It means that SLA/NaOH group is possible to promote osseointegration of implants.
In order to increase ginsenoside content, to reduce chemical change, to shorten extracting procedure, new methods of extraction and fractionation of crude ginseng saponin were established and compared for their chemical composition. Those are hot MeOH extraction/n-BuOH fractionation (BuOH method) and hot MeOH extraction/Diaion HP-20 adsorption/MeOH elution (HP-20 method), which are already known methods, and additional three new methods: hot MeOH extraction/cation AG 50W $adsorption/H_2O$ elution/n-BuOH extraction (AG 50W method), cool MeOH extraction/Diaion HP-20 adsorption/MeOH elution (cool extraction method) and direct extraction with EtOAc/n-BuOH (direct extraction method). AG 50W method provided a crude saponin showing the highest content of ginsenosides of 61.5% and the lowest contents of protein and free amino acids of 0.93% and 0.19%, respectively. The protein content was the highest as 14.18% in the crude saponin by HP-20 method, while free sugar content was the highest as 13.5% by BuOH method, indicating that these are factors that lower the rate of ginsenoside in crude saponins by those methods. On the other hand, it was revealed that AG 50W method produced large amount of prosapogenins during the pass through the cation exchange resin (AG 50W) column being strongly acidic. Crude saponin from direct extraction method showed relatively higher composition of ginsenoside $Rg_1$ and Re. The results suggest that contents and composition of ginsenosides and other chemical components in crude ginseng saponin greatly depend on the condition of the extraction and fractionation.
The experiment was carried out to investigate the properties of bark extractives form Larix epilepsies and to evacuate their suitability as a bonding agent. The yield and reactivity were measured to examine the influence of temperature and time and the effect of carbonation and sulfonation. To define the possibility of practical application as wood adhesives the viscosity and gelation time were measured at 33% concentration. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. As the both yield and reactivity were high, extraction for 2 hours at $80^{\circ}C$ was the optimal temperature and time. 2. The highest effect achieved at 1% $Na_2CO_3$ about carbonation and 1% $Na_2SO_3$ : $NaHSO_3$ and 0.25% $Na_2SO_3$ about sulfonation. The sulfonation of 0.25% $Na_2SO_3$ increased the yield and reactivity most highly. 3. By using hot water as extraction liquid the yield was 17.2%, while the addition of 1% and 5% NaOH to the extraction liquid increased the yield to 38.6% and 44.6%, respectively. 4. Hot water extracts showed the highest reactivity(68.8%). The addition of 1% and 5% NaOH led to decrease in reactivity(49.3% and 25.8%, respectively). 5. At 33% concentration of the extracts the viscosity appeared very variable. Significantly high values of viscosity was measured in 1% NaOH solution, while very low values appeared for 5% NaOH solution. 6. The shortest gelation time was determined at pH 7 to 10 and the highest at pH 4. The use of paraformaldehyde resulted in gelation times longer than those of 37% formaldehyde solution. 7. Except the sulfonation extracts of hot water and 1% NaOH, the other extracts were found unsuitable due to high viscosity(1% NaOH extracts, sulfonation extracts) or to curing inability(5% NaOH extracts, sulfonation extracts of 5% NaOH). 8. From the three extract solutions which appeared to be suitable for use as bonding agents the hot water extracts and the sulfonation extracts of hot water were superior in extract reactivity, while the sulfonation extracts of 1% NaOH exceeded the other two extracts in extract yield.
Fifty endophytic bacteria, which produced slime around the colonies, were isolated from Pueraria roots. In particular, HDN-14, TDG-3, and TNB-3 strains, which appeared to be high viscosity producers, were selected. These strains produced high levels of polysaccharides in Puerara root medium extract. The purified polysaccharide was digested with 1N HCI and analyzed by HPLC, with glucose ($45.6{\sim}63.1%$), maltose ($14.6{\sim}23.7%$), and fructose ($17.4{\sim}23.7%$) detected as constitutive sugars. When determined by the homology relationship of the 16S rDNA sequence with the relative taxa, the HDN-14 and TNB-3 strains were closely ($99.06{\sim}99.32%$) related to the Pseudomonas $koreensis^T$ and Pseudomonas $jessenii^T$, while TDG-3 were closely ($99.48{\sim}99.74%$) related to Pseudomonas $plecoglossicida^T$, Pseudomonas $mosselii^T$, and Pseudomonas $monteilii^T$. The major cellular Pseudomonas acids are $3OH-C_{10:0}$, $2OH-C_{12:0}$, $3OH-C_{12:0}$, and $3OH-C_{12:1}$, with these strains being further differentiated in species belonging to the genus Pseudomonas.

The $H_2S$ adsorption characteristics and property analyses of granular activated carbon adsorbent impregnated with basic solution such as NaOH, KOH, and $(CH_2CH_2OH)_2NH$ were investigated. The concentrations of NaOH and KOH reagent ranged over 1 to 5 M, The concentration of $(CH_2CH_2OH)_2NH$ was in the range of 0.1 to 1 M. Adsorption temperature($25{\sim}45^{\circ}C$) and adsorbate ($H_2S$) concentration (18.23 mg/L) were applied. The experimental results showed that the BET surface area of activated carbon impregnated with KOH decreases from $1,050\;m^2/g$ to $750\;m^2/g$, and the acidity of activated carbon impregnated with NaOH decreases from 0.541 meq/g-AC to 0 meq/g-AC, as the concentration of basic solution increases, while the pH of impregnated activated carbon increased from 9.54 to 10.94 for three basic solutions. It was also found that the $H_2S$ adsorption equilibrium capacity of activated carbon impregnated with NaOH, KOH, $(CH_2CH_2OH)_2NH$ increased with increasing temperature and $H_2S$ adsorption equilibrium capacity of the activated carbon impregnated with diethanolamine was much higher than other cases. At adsorption temperature of $45^{\circ}C$, the $H_2S$ adsorption equilibrium capacity of impregnated activated carbon was 2.0~3.3 times lager than that of pure activated carbon.

In this research, the geopolymer was fabricated using municipal solid waste incineration ash (denoted as MSWIA) slag and alkali activator, NaOH and its properties were analyzed. Particularly, the effects of NaOH molarity, particle size of MSWIA, and liquid/solids ratio on the compressive strength of geopolymers were investigated. The compressive strength of geopolymers fabricated increased with finer grain size of MSWIA, and optimum value of the liquid/solids ratio was identified as 0.13. As the molarity of the NaOH increased, the compressive strength of geopolymers was increased. Even more the 20 M of NaOH, but the strength was not increased. The calcium aluminum silicate and calcium aluminum silicate hydrate zeolites were generated in the geopolymer fabricated with more than 20 M of NaOH, with some unreacted silica and unknown crystals remained. The highest compressive strength, 163 MPa, of geopolymer was appeared at conditions of curing temperature $70^{\circ}C$, and 20 M of NaOH, indicating that the high concentration of NaOH accelerates the geopolymer reaction and dense microstructure. The high-strength geopolymer fabricated in the present study is expected to contribute significantly to develop the field of cement alternative substances and to improve the recycling rate of MSWIA slag.
The molecular and electronic structures of $TiCl(OC_6H_5)_3{\cdot}C_6H_5OH\;and\;Ti(OC_6H_5)_4{\cdot}C_6H_5OH$ have been studied by employing cryoscopic and electronic spectroscopic methods. The cryoscopic data have shown that the dimeric tetraphenoxytitanium(Ⅳ) phenolate in solid undergoes complete dissociation into monomer in solution and also the chlorocomplex starts dissociation around the concentration of 8 m mole/l. Therefore, these two Ti-complexes are pentacoordinated in dilute solution and the local symmetry of the titanium ion in these complexes seems to be trigonalbipyramid. The electronic spectra of $TiCl(OC_6H_5)_3{\cdot}C_6H_5OH$ and $Ti(OC_6H_5)_4{\cdot}C_6H_5OH$ each show two band, systems, one vibration-structural band characteristic of the aromatic ring in the near UV and another visible band at 26.8 kK, 29.6 kK, respectively, which are assigned as a ligand to metal charge transfer band corresponding to $^1A_1''{\to}^1E'\;or\;^1E''$ transition.
