An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with coded direct index modulation(OFDM-CDIM) system that can achieve higher performance and spectral efficiency than previous OFDM systems is proposed. Previous OFDM with index modulation(IM) and OFDM-IM using dual modes systems allocate additional data to indices of respective subcarriers through combining operation with high complexity and then transmit them. However, the proposed system directly allocates the mode selection information to each subcarrier without performing additional operations. Then, the system selects and transmits one symbol in the selected mode. Furthermore, only the data allocated to the index of the subcarrier is encoded, and a good performance improvement effect is obtained with a high code rate. Simulation results show quantitatively that an OFDM-CDIM system using four modes improves bit error rate performance and transmission efficiency in additive white Gaussian noise and Rayleigh fading channel environments compared with a conventional OFDM system using 4-ary quadrature amplitude modulation.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmits high-speed data by splitting the transmission bandwidth into a number of subcarriers. The bandwidth of each subcarrier is ensured to be smaller than the coherence bandwidth. This paper presents an OFDM system incorporated with the Carrier Interferometry (CI) codes to improve the performance by enhancing frequency diversity effect. The performances of CI-OFDM with multilevel modulations are investigated in highly dispersive fading channels. For the investigation of performance improvement of CI-OFDM, a simulator has been developed using a well-known SPW simulation platform. The simulation results show that the CI-OFDM provides both performance improvement and robustness against dispersive fading channel behavior. The performance of CI-OFBM with multilevel modulations demonstrates that CI-OFDM outperforms a traditional OFDM system, particularly in highly dispersive channels. With a relatively large delay spread of 151㎱ compared to the guard interval of 800㎱, CI-OFDM provides a BER of 10$^{-3}$ if sufficient signal power is present.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) that is very useful for the high-speed communication system has serious problem of high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) in time domain. Because of this, the non-linear distortion can be produced and system performance gets worse. CI-OFDM system can get the peak power lowered. In this CI-OFDM system, each parallel data is distributed into N all sub-carriers and conveyed by the orthogonal phase factor. Also, CI-OFDM shows frequency diversity effect. Therefore, CI-OFDM system is better than ordinary OFDM system in terms of BER performance and the PAPR reduction. When it is implemented, however, there is a serious problem whether it can separate and compensate the phase factor in order in the receiver. Because all bits are transmitted simultaneously over all subcarriers and each other phase factors in transmitter. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a FD-CI-OFDM system that is a version of improved CI-OFDM. This is designed by use of the Walsh Hadamard sequence. The FD-CI-OFDM shows better performance than ordinary OFDM and CI-OFDM system.

In this paper, we review a trellis-coded orthogonal frequency division multiplex (TC-OFDM) system, which combines OFDM with trellis-coded modulation, for overcoming the frequency selective and multipath fading of time dispersive channels. We simulate and analyse the BER performance of rate 2/3 trellis coded 8DPSK-OFDM over time dispersive channels. Design of the trellis codes at different carrier numbers of OFDM is discussed. Results show that TC-OFDM system can provide 6 dB coding gain at a BER of 10$^{-3}$ compared with OFDM system without coding.
The conventional OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation can be combined with WHT (Walsh-Hadamard Transform) to reduce PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) and improve BER (Bit Error Rate) performance. However, this WHT-based OFDM system still suffers a relatively high PAPR. Therefore, we suggest a new technique, called DGT (Data Grouping Technique) and design an OFDM system employing it and WHT to further decrease PAPR without the BER performance degradation. h salient property of DGT is the independence of the side information which is inherently a principal drawback of the well-known PAPR reduction techniques for OFDM system as well as WHT-based OFDM. The simulation programs have been also performed to verify the validity of the proposed system.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-code division multiplexing access(OFDM-CDMA) systems without guard interval can enhance the bandwidth performance more efficiently than the systems with guard interval. In this paper, a new technique for an OFDM-CDMA system without guard interval, which can eliminate inter-symbol interference(ISI) and inter-channel interference(ICI), is presented. The proposed algorithm is a new demodulation technique, based on the Pseudo-Decorrelator, and it is named PD algorithm. Simulation results show that the PD algorithm can combat ISI and ICI efficiently for an OFDM-CDMA system without guard interval. The BER performance of the PD algorithm is much better than that of a conventional OFDM-CDMA system without guard interval.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a special technique for communication systems which can support the high data rate transmission with sufficient robustness to fading channels. Tansmitter diversity with space-time block coding (STBC) is an attractive transmission scheme to improve the performance of systems. In this paper, we compare the performance of space-time block coded OFDM systems with that of conventional OFDM systems over fast fading channels. The block-interleaved (BI) STBC and frequency hopping (FH) OFDM are proposed in the study to provide the maximum achievable diversity gains. As the simulation results, the STBC OFDM, Bl-STBC OFDM and Bl-STBC FH-OFDM provide the much improved performance over the conventional OFDM. And the Bl-STBC FH-OFDM also provide the better performance than the STBC OFDM and Bl-STBC OFDM, especially, in the case of the two transmit antennas are employed while BI-STBC FH-OFDM can maintain the same data rate of 12 Mbps.

In the case of the requirement of high speed transmission, OFDM is a powerful technique employed in communications systems suffering from frequency selective fading. In this paper, we apply an optimal adaptive bitloading algorithm technique. The BER performance of the fixed-rate SISO and adaptive SISO is simulated. Specially, we can decompose the MIMO channel into the SISO channel by making use of the singular value decomposition(SVD) assuming channel knowledge in a multipath environment. As a results of simulation, we confirmed that the BER enhancement of MIMO-OFDM system with the bitloadins algorithm was superior to the SISO-OFDM system.
Acoustic OFDM is used for audible frequency band acoustic communication which employs loudspeaker as transmitter and microphone as the receiver antenna. Since acoustic OFDM can transmit about 1 kbps using 1600 Hz band. acoustic OFDM signal is inserted into the audio signal like music or speech, However. audio quality deteriorates definitely during the inserting process. This paper introduces a reason for audio quality deterioration and discuss how to reduce this phenomenon.

OFDM/OQAM(Offset QAM)-IOTA system requires the IOTA(Isotropic Orthogonal Transform Algorithm) function that has superior localization property in time and frequency domain instead of guard interval used for conventional OFDM/QAM system to be robust to multipath channel. Therefore, OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system has more spectral efficiency than conventional OFDM/QAM system. But, when channel estimation scheme for conventional OFDM/QAM system is applied straightforwardly to OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system, an intrinsic Inter- symbol-Interference is observed. So suitable preamble structure for the channel estimation scheme of OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system is required. In this paper, we propose a new preamble structure that is appropriate to OPDM/OQAM-IOTA system and then perform ideal channel estimation and practical channel estimation in low-to-medium mobile speed and compare them with conventional OFDM/QAM system. Simulation results show that OFDM/OQAM-IOTA system with proposed preamble structure has 1.5 dB Eb/NO gain on Target BER $10^{-3}$ and about $25\%$ transmission rate gain against the conventional OFDM/QAM system considering quarter of FFT size as guard interval size.
