Purpose: This study was to identify adolescents' smoking behavior and the status and need of smoking prevention education for adolescents. Method: The subjects were 375 students selected through convenient sampling from three middle schools and three high schools in Jeonbuk. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey and analyzed using SPSS 10.1. Result: The smoking rate was 20.8% and 83.7% the students experienced smoking prevention education. Students were educated by a special instructor (39.8%) or a health teacher (26.8%). Among the teaching methods, lecture was 69.4%, but some students (30.7%) wanted anti-smoking school. Among the students, 85.0% answered they want smoking prevention education and 46.7% said that it should be covered in regular curriculum. Conclusion: High interest and continuity are emphasized for the success of smoking prevention education. In addition, various teaching methods need to be developed including anti-smoking school, lectures, counselling and long term education program. Moreover, smoking prevention education programs need to be covered in regular curriculum.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine nursing students' attitude toward death and perception on hospice care. Methods: The survey was performed with 277 nursing students in three universities in Daegu and Busan. The data was collected by questionnaires and were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Regarding the attitude on death, 93.9% of the subjects had ever thought about death. They worried about separation and sadness with family (39.7%). About half (48.7%) of the subjects considered death as a final process of the life. With regard to the perception of hospice, 93% of the subjects heard about hospice through books or nursing courses (83.8%). The best hospice management institution was considered the one run by religious groups or non-profit organizations with government support (33.9%). Ideal model of hospice setting in Korea was hospital or institution specialized with hospice care (47.7%). The barriers the subjects thought to effective hospice care in Korea was the lack of the public consensus on the need for hospice program (37.9%). The average perceptions about the purpose of hospice care was 4.38, whereas, the average of the need of hospice care was 4.06. Conclusion: The findings of the study provides the basis for expanding nursing practice and education related to hospice care.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the confidence and educational needs of clinical nurses in care for the family of dying patients. Methods: The subjects of this study were 218 clinical nurses working at two tertiary general hospitals located in D city, Korea, and the data were collected through online questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheffe test and 𝝌2 test using the SPSS WIN 20.0 program. Results: 97.6% of clinical nurses recognized the need for family care for dying patients, but 76.7% had never received any education on family care for dying patients. The average score of dying patients' confidence in family care was 3.09. About 90% of clinical nurses were willing to participate in family nursing education for dying patients. The group with more than 5 years of clinical experience was significantly higher than the group with less than 5 years of clinical experience. Conclusion: This study recognized the necessity of family nursing for dying patients highly. It is necessary to develop and apply an educational program based on the education topic that recognizes the need highly.
This descriptive study was conducted to ascertain whether the needs of patients with cancer, their caregivers and their nurses changed according to the illness phases and if the perceived needs of the three groups were different for three categories of nursing needs. At two hospitals in Seoul and Choongnam, three groups of subjects, -patients with cancer(79), caregivers(92), and nurses(72) - responded to a questionnaire consisting of items on educational need(11 items), physical need(8 items), emotional need(9 items) using a 4-point Likert scale. The patients and caregivers were selected according to the phase of the cancer (initial, intermediate or recurred, terminal phases). Finding revealed that the level of perception and degree of satisfaction of the needs were low, just around two points in patients and caregivers. Of the three categories of needs, physical needs were received the highest score and the degree of satisfaction of physical needs was also the highest. There was no significant difference between the level of perception and satisfaction of needs in patients and caregivers according to the phases of the illness and the degree of per reception and the satisfaction of the patients were not significantly different and caregivers showed the same result. There was a significant difference in the level of importance of the needs of nurses according to the phases of the cancer. They perceived emotional needs were the most important in first phase and second phase, physical needs in third phase and the educational needs were more important in the first phase than in any other phase. The degree of importance of needs was significantly lower than the degree to which needs were addressed, according to the nurses response. In a comparison of patient and caregiver's perceived degrees of need, and need satisfaction, and nurse's perceived degree of need provision, patient and caregiver scores were lower than the nurses.

This study was designed to analyze the nursing curricula in graduate programs and suggest the direction of future nursing curricula. Thirty-two nursing curricula for a master's degree and fifteen curricula for a doctoral degree from general graduate programs, fifteen nursing curricula for a master's degree from fifteen educational graduate programs, eight nursing curricula for master degree from eight out of twelve public health graduate programs, three nursing curricula for a master's degree from three administrative graduate programs, and four nursing curricula for a master's degree from four clinical nursing graduate programs, were analyzed. Consequently, It was hard to find a clear difference between the educational goals and objectives, the subjects open in nursing curricula for a master's degree and those for a doctoral degree of graduate programs. The educational graduate programs, public health graduate programs, administrative graduate programs, and clinical nursing graduate programs, each program showed ittle different in each educational goal and objective. However, because the various kinds of subjects open in each program were not based on the core curricula, the quality of the nursing curricula need to be evaluated and develope the curricula to difference are the goal and objective. Accordingly, future studies need to be focused on developing core nursing curricula reflecting the characteristics of each graduate program.
This article was trying to suggest an agenda and alternatives of home health care policy for the future home care growth and development and examine the significance of new health care law and regulations. In addition. It was to analyze and drive the home care system problems. of which was made an announcement on the 11th of April. that home health care project must be centered from the nationwide general hospital. As we have learned from the developed countries, the home health care have been closely related health care policy among the field of nursing area. Therefore. we need to understand our national health care policy and need to predict the future direction and goal of our home health care policy in order to enhance the growth and activation of health care system. Additionally. we also need to have a vision and ability to develop under our own health care policy with systematic and rational home care business escaping from past perspective and standpoint. We must create a master plan of home care system to fulfill one part of system of the function and an important role in order to pursue an advanced health care plan under our system. For instance. in the 21th century as we establish a master plan for the growth of our country home care plan with improving plan systematically and also we need to produce many highly qualified researching and good personal who can develop and maintain the system efficiently. Specially. based on the unique characteristics of our health care system and the direction of development of plan, we need to find and correct the problems which we have faced the present time, so that we can provide and reach the goal of advanced health care system which our government want to pursue. Finally. we have to strive our best effort to make our home health care system can be positioned and stand the right direction to have the benefit for every individual citizen in our country.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey the current status of mental health education and need for mental health education enhancing protective factors in the elementary schools. Methods: We surveyed 10 school health teachers and 328 fifth- and sixth-grade students using 19- and 20-item questionnaires, respectively. Results: All of the teachers and 65.2% of the students replied that they were either teaching or being taught mental health in school. Topics covered suicide, depression, school violence, and Internet addiction. All of the teachers and 84.1% of the students expressed the need for mental health education enhancing protective factors in school. Both groups replied that two sessions are enough. The teachers preferred role play and discussion as teaching methods, and audiovisual materials and computer as instructional media. The students preferred lecture and role play as teaching methods, and audiovisual materials and smartphone as instructional media. Both groups ranked self-esteem, parent-child relationship, peer relationship, and emotional regulation as the most important topics to be covered in the education. Conclusion: There is a high demand for mental health education enhancing protective factors. Therefore, it is recommended to develop educational programs enhancing protective factors by enabling formal and informal learning using smartphone.
Purpose: This study was to examine the relationships between nurse's perception of patient safety culture and performance for safety nursing activities at rehabilitation hospitals. Methods: This study applied a descriptive research design. Participants were 194 nurses who have provided nursing services for more than 6 months at 4 rehabilitation hospitals located in B metropolitan city. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: There was a positive correlation between the awareness of patient safety culture and safety nursing activity. Multivariate analysis showed that hospital work environment, experience of education, hospital climate, frequency of reported events, and marital status were significantly associated with the safety nursing activity. Overall, approximately 23.1% of total variability in the safety nursing activity could be explained by the 5 variables ($R^2=0.231$, p<.005). Conclusion: Nurses at rehabilitation hospitals are relatively positive about patient safety culture. Therefore, we need to develop safety education programs at the level of organization in order to improve patient safety through performing effective safety nursing activities in addition to increase awareness of patient safety culture among nurses. Furthermore, we need hospital's strategies at the system level for open communication and outcome reports regarding patient safety.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine nursing students' attitude toward death and perception on hospice care. Methods: The survey was performed on 103 nursing students in one university in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do. The data were collected by questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Regarding the attitude toward death, 90.3% of the students had thought about death. They worried about sense of loss and sadness due to parting with family (31.1%). About half (51.5%) of the students considered death as a final process of the life. With regard to the perception of hospice, 92.2% of the students heard about hospice through books or nursing classes (65.0%). Public institutions running by government was considered to the students as the best hospice management institution (44.7%). The students thought a ideal model of hospice setting in Korea was hospital or institution specialized with hospice care (51.5%). They considered the barriers to effective hospice care in Korea was the lack of the public consensus on the need for hospice program (35.9%). The average perceptions about the purpose of hospice care was 4.33 whereas the average of the need of hospice care was 3.85. Conclusion: The findings of the study provide the basis for expanding nursing practice and education related to hospice care.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the needs of health & community services among the disabled at home in rural areas. Methods: The subjects were 146 persons with disabilities living in J-gun. The questionnaire was based on the needs of 8 categorical services. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe test. Results: Among the respondents, 27.4% visited the public health center in community for rehabilitation therapy. The average score of need was $2.62{\pm}.79$: education services $(2.92{\pm}1.05)$; medical services $(2.81{\pm}.82)$ nursing care services $(2.75{\pm}1.08)$; connection services $(2.62{\pm}1.20)$;, housing services $(2.60{\pm}1.09)$; emotional services $(2.41{\pm}1.03)$; other services $(2.24{\pm}1.06)$; and support of self-sustenance service $(1.92{\pm}1.15)$. The items in highest need were medical checkup (70.7%), medication (62.1%), traditional oriental therapy (60.4%) and physical therapy (58.9%), and those of lowest need were device repair (8.7%) and guidance of facility admission (7.1%). Needs were significantly different according to age (F=4.751. p=.001), employment status (t=2.108, p=.037) and medical fee payer (F=5.061, p=.002). Conclusion: The needs of education & medical services were relatively high. Demographic factors were statistically significant in determining needs. For the disabled at home in rural areas, more various services or programs should be executed based upon the needs and characteristics of based upon the needs and characteristics of the subjects.
