Purpose : This study purposed to conduct a comprehensive survey of home care nursing clients' quality of life based on the PRECEDE model. Method : This study selected 74 home care nursing clients registered at a university hospital in Incheon and performed face-to-face interviews by structured questionnaire. The research period was two months from the $2^{nd}$ of February to the $30^{th}$ of March in 2004. Result : According to the result of assessment at each stage of the PRECEDE model, home care nursing clients' quality of life was 13.88 out of 25 points, health level 15.22 out of 21, abilities to perform activities of daily living 29.26 out of 100, cognitive abilities 16.00 out of 30, social support 13.68 out of 20, and satisfaction with home care nursing service 33.26 out of 40. According to the result of stepwise regression in order to identify factors influencing home care nursing clients' quality of life, social support and abilities of daily living were found to be significant variables among the characteristics of each assessment stage. Conclusion : It is necessary to develop nursing intervention strategies for strengthening social support and enhancing abilities to perform activities of daily living in order to improve home nursing clients' quality of life.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different methods of information delivery(information provided by nurses vs. information provided by video) on environmental stress and the satisfaction of nursing needs in families of intensive care unit patients. Methods: A nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The data were collected from March 24 to May 7, 2009. The subjects, 52 family members of ICU patients (26 for the control group, 26 for the experimental group), were selected from a hospital located in Gyeonggido. Information was given by video to the experimental group whereas the information was directly given by nurses to the control group. Results: Environmental stress and satisfaction of nursing needs were not statistically different between the two groups. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that the information given by video may be compatible with that given by nurses. Therefore, nurses need to be flexible in using these different methods to maximize the benefits of direct and indirect information delivery method for families in ICU setting.
Purpose: This paper is a report on the concept analysis of family-centered care for hospitalized children. Methods: The concept analysis approach of Walker and Avant was used. A search of multidisciplinary literature published between 1960 and 2016 was undertaken using the keyword 'family centered care' or 'family centered nursing' combined with hospitalized children. Attributes, antecedents, and consequences were inductively derived from the citations analyzed (n=19). Results: The attributes of family-centered care included (1) family respect, (2) collaboration, (3) family support, and (4) information sharing. These attributes are influenced by the 'willingness of family to participate', 'competency and willingness of staff,' and 'institution policy and system.' Additionally, family-centered care does significantly impact 'the health of the children', 'family empowerment' and 'work satisfaction and self-confidence of staff'. Conclusion: Family-centered care of hospitalized children as defined by the result of this study will contribute to the theoretical foundation for application in pediatric nursing practice.
Purpose: This study was performed to explore the trend of nursing research in the Korean long-term care system. Methods: Articles published between 2008 and 2021 were searched using the terms "long-term care system" and "nursing." Ninety-one articles were analyzed and classified into five categories according to research methods. Data were extracted through a systematic review process and underwent descriptive statistics and content analyses. Results: The most analyzed variable in the survey studies was job satisfaction. Many variables were classified into input and output factors using Donabedian's model. The content analysis showed that most suggestions were about improving the political regulation system. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish a research foundation to provide research funding and support to cultivate future nursing research in long-term care. Systematic improvement of research in nursing should be continuously pursued to revitalize nursing services, expand nursing service interventions, and improve management competency programs in nursing institutions.
Purpose: This study was performed to give direction to quality improvement strategies of nursing services by comparing the differences in quality perceptions and satisfaction for nursing services between patients and nurses in small-medium sized general hospitals with 200 beds. Method: The subjects, who were 150 inpatients and 162 nurses of 4 general hospitals in a community, answered a self-report questionnaire with a SERVQUAL scale. Result: There were differences between patients' and nurses' expectations and perceptions of nursing service and satisfaction. In the service expectation, the highest factor was 'the responsiveness', and in the perceived performance, the highest was the 'assurance'. In addition, overall patients' perceptions on nursing services showed higher than nurses'. There were positive correlations among the expectations and perceptions on nursing service, and satisfaction. The correlation between perception and satisfaction was higher than the correlation between expectations and satisfaction. Conclusion: To improve the nursing service quality at small-medium hospitals, strengthening the 'assurance' factor and improving the nursing service support system is needed. Also, this study on nurses' perceived nursing service at small-medium sized hospitals should be duplicated.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue, burnout on the attitude towards terminal care among care providers in long-term care facilities. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, data was collected from 126 care providers in long-term care facilities in Chungbuk and Kangwon province. Data were collected with self-administrated questionnaires and analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression. Findings of this study is as follows. Firstly, attitude towards terminal care was positively affected by compassion satisfaction. Secondly, the attitude towards terminal care was negatively affected by compassion fatigue. Thirdly, the attitude towards terminal care was negatively affected by burnout. In conclusion, these findings provide strong empirical evidence for the importance of compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and burnout in explaining attitude towards terminal care among care providers in long-term care facilities. Therefore, strategies to decrease compassion fatigue and burnout and improve compassion satisfaction are needed to improve the attitude towards terminal care among care providers in long-term care facilities.
Purpose: This descriptive study was conducted to identify burnout and factors influencing burnout in clinical nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was conducted by administering a structured questionnaire to 195 nurses working at hospitals, from August to September 2017. This study used scales to measure burnout (20 items), job satisfaction (16 items), and perfectionism (40 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Burnout of participants was correlated with job satisfaction and perfectionism. Factors identified to have influence on burnout were job satisfaction (${\beta}=-.35$, p<.001), perfectionism-fail avoidance (${\beta}=.26$, p=.001), perceived health status (${\beta}=-.26$, p<.001), and intention of department relocation (${\beta}=-.23$, p<.001). The regression model explained approximately 48% of nurses' burnout. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to improve job satisfaction and organizational support to decrease dysfunctional perfectionism that could cause burnout in nurses. It is also necessary to establish a psychological support program in hospitals.
Purpose: This study investigated sleep satisfaction and influencing factors in Korean adolescents with atopic dermatitis. Methods: Data were obtained from 4,570 subjects who completed the 2017 13th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and multiple-sample logistic regression were used. Results: The results of this study were as follows. Gender, academic achievement, economic status, perceived stress, happiness, health status, and depression in the subjects showed a significant difference in terms of sleep satisfaction in atopic adolescents. Multiple-sample logistic regression analysis showed that male adolescents (odds ratio (OR)=0.48), academic achievement (low OR=0.67, middle OR=0.78), economic status (low OR=0.50, middle OR=0.64), lack of depression (OR=0.63), perceived stress (very OR=4.65, a little OR=2.25), perceived happiness (unhappy OR=1.99, moderate OR=1.22), perceived health status (unhealthy OR=2.17, ordinary OR=1.35), alcohol nondrinking (OR=0.75), and nonsmoking (OR=0.73) were not associated with sleep satisfaction. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop interventions that can relieve stress management and depression and develop positive emotions in atopic adolescents. In addition, there is a need to improve the environment to avoid health risks such as alcohol consumption and smoking and to minimize the effects of passive smoking.

This study is conducted to find out the nurses' character for care and the workplace bullying for the early stage nurses working in the clinical field and their relation in order to understand the factors which would affect the consequence of the workplace bullying. Data collected from 131 early stage nurses working at one general hospital for 7 months was used for this study. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Hierarchical multiple regression by using SPSS/WIN 21.0. It was found that high the nurses' character for care was related to the lower workplace bullying (type and consequence) (r=-.31, p<.001; r=-.26, p=.003) and that the worse the score in the type of bullying wasthe higher consequence (r=.54, p<.001). The multiple regression analysis showed that the factors affecting the consequence of the workplace bullying were the type of bullying (β=.48), dissatisfaction with nursing (β=.22), and moderate satisfaction with nursing (β=.19) and that the explanation of the model by variables was 32.5%. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that the effort of lowering the occurrence of the type of bullying and the strategy of enhancing the satisfaction with nursing such as improvement in the quality of nursing education be made in order to improve the consequence of workplace bullying at the workplace for the early stage nurses.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing the professional self-concept of nurses working in intensive care units (ICUs). Methods : Data were collected from July 1 to August 15, 2014. The subjects were 206 ICU nurses working in four university hospitals in B and U cities, Korea. Their professional self-concept was measured using Arthur's Scale revised by Yoon (2012), and professional quality of life (QOL) was measured using Pro QOL Korean Ver. 5 developed by Stamm (2010). Data were analyzed with SPSS Ver. 18, using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results : Professional self-concept was significantly correlated with compassion satisfaction (r=.61, p<.001), and burn out (r=-.57, p<.001). The factors influencing professional self-concept were compassion satisfaction (${\beta}=.46$, p<.001), burn out (${\beta}=-.27$, p<.001), and education level (${\beta}=.14$, p =.014). The explanatory power of this model was 46.5%. Conclusion : The results suggest that the influencing factors found in this study should be considered when planning nursing intervention programs for improving the professional self-concept of ICU nurses.
