From September to December 2014, the students participated in the action learning-based spiritual care education program, which were held 16 times, had decreased their spiritual needs and improved spiritual well-being and spiritual care competence. The data were analyzed using paired t-test with the SPSS WIN 23.0 statistics program. The results of this study indicate that the action learning-based spiritual care education program was effective in decreasing spiritual needs and improving spiritual well-being and spiritual care competence for nursing students. The nursing students, which provide a holistic care, will grow up to be a professional nurse by learning the nursing process including spiritual care. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate issues and needs related to child health management as recognized by teachers in day care centers. Methods: Data were collected from 130 teachers from 20 day care centers. Each teacher was interviewed in depth and the data were examined through content analysis. Results: For issues on child health management, the analysis scheme consisted of 10 categories and 36 subcategories. For needs on child health management, the analysis scheme consisted of 10 categories and 37 subcategories. Teachers indicated that tools for physical examination and playgrounds were insufficient and they had difficulty in controlling attendance of infectious children. They also indicated the lack of a linkage between day care centers and hospitals, lack of knowledge of health management, high teacher versus child ratio, and lack of help and budget needed for health care. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest the need to develop a linkage between day care centers and medical institutions. Also there is a need to provide support from health care personnel, health education for teacher, health management manuals for teachers, and financial aid to satisfy the needs for health management in day care center for children.

The score of objective burden of primary caregivers was $31.24{\pm}4.81$ and subjective burden was $24.30{\pm}6.99$. The score of the educational needs was $89.78{\pm}9.99$. We present several imformations about clients from these scores as follows: The patients were convalescent and their depentant level of self- care was middle range; The objective burden was higher than the subjective burden; And the educational needs of family caregivers were very high. The Elain Mattis Educational Wants of Family Caregivers of Disabled Adults Questionnaire was used to assess the educational needs of primary caregivers of stroke patients. The results of this research are offered to help nurses understand the feelings of uncertainty about the new and unexpected role that family caregivers face and to help nurses meet the needs of families preparing to care stroke survivors at home.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the perceived needs and confidence of school nurses in health education at middle and high schools in Seoul, Korea. Methods: A descriptive survey questionnaire was developed by a research team to investigate the perceived needs and confidence across eight health education areas. A total of 329 school nurses at secondary schools in the metropolitan areas of Seoul participated. Descriptive statistics, the t-test, and ANOVA were conducted to analyze the data. Results: Generally high means in perceived education needs(Mean: 3.8~4.7/5) and health education confidence (Mean 3.3~4.5/5) were reported. However, there were significantly low means of health education confidence related to perceived needs in health education for all areas of health education. While injury prevention and emergency care education were the highest perceived educational needs and were also areas with high confidence of school nurses, mental health, social health, and sexual health were areas where nurses showed a significantly lower confidence. In general, nurses with a longer clinical experience and educational career had a higher confidence in injury prevention, emergency care, and mental health. Conclusions: Multi-level support, including the continuing education and proactive in-service training, for the school nurses needs to be developed to improve their teaching competency.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge and learning needs on coronary artery disease in diabetic patients by glycemic control. Methods: The subjects consisted of 188 patients at the hospital who had diabetes mellitus. Data was obtained using a knowledge and learning needs questionnaire from January to April 2006. Results: Treatment method, the levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG), and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose(PP2hr) showed meaningful differences between normo-glycemic group(HbA1c < 7%) and hyper-glycemic group($HbA1c{\geq}7%$). The levels of knowledge on coronary artery disease by glycemic control tend to show higher in normo-glycemic group. Etiology and prevention of coronary artery disease were significantly higher in normo-glycemic group than in hyper-glycemic group. The levels of learning needs on coronary artery disease by glycemic control tend to show higher in normo-glycemic group. The learning needs on items of diet control were higher in normo-glycemic group than in hyper-glycemic group. Conclusion: On the base of these results, we should focus on the coronary artery disease education for hyper-glycemic group. Also individual coronary artery disease educational program should be developed for the patients with different level of knowledge and learning needs.

  • The study was performed to develop standards for nursing practice. The quality and quantity of medical services, including nursing services, has been determined to date by the availability of providers rather than by the actual needs of the patients. In fact, there has been a serious gap between expected and actual servces. In order to provide high quality nursing services and to enhance professional status, the nursing profession should define their practice in a measurable way and identify the client outcomes to which they contribute. Therefore, this research was conducted through the three phases as follows : (1) Evaluation of current nursing practices and environment, and analysis of actual patient needs, by means of questionnaires. (2) Literature review to define the nature, purpose, and standards of professional nursing practice. (3) Expert group's modification of existing standards by integrating the results of first two phases. As a result, standards for each area of nursing practice were developed, such as shown in Table 3 and Table 4. However, these standards must receive ongoing attention by the profession to assure that they remain current and reflect advances in nursing knowledge and clinical technology.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze functional independence and need for home nursing care in stroke patients. Method: This was a descriptive study. The subjects comprised 117 stroke patients who were supposed to discharge in less than a week. The instruments used for this study were the functional independence measure(FIM) and the need assessment for home nursing care of stroke patients. The data were analyzed using frequency, mean, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Pearson correlation analysis revealed that there were negative correlations between subcategories of the FIM and the need for home nursing care in stroke patients. Especially, in case of the subjects who recorded lower scores at self-care they showed higher needs for home nursing care in the domain of physical problem and rehabilitation. Conclusion: For the operation of the home nursing care, the protocol for home nursing care is needed to the stroke patients living at home. The FIM instrument is recommended as a useful scale in order to assess the disability for the stroke patients and the need for home nursing care because this one has correlation with the scale of need for home nursing care.
