Purpose: This is a project report of the development of consecutive clinical nursing practicum modules using simulation encompassing the essentials of nursing over 4 years of university level education. Methods: The project was conducted from May to December in 2011 in a college of nursing in Seoul, Korea. Six nursing faculty members from different major subjects at the university participated in the project. The theoretical framework was sought in the first phase, resulting in utilizing Neuman's Systems Model. The principles of developing the contents of and the links between the modules were set up in the second phase, presented as complexity, diversity, and comprehensiveness. The details in the individual module were fleshed out in the third phase. Results: Eight clinical nursing modules using simulation were developed and presented in a table in detail. The complexity, diversity, and comprehensiveness of each module increased in depth and breadth in a consecutive order. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the academic achievements, satisfaction and educational demands of nursing students at a college of nursing. Methods: The study subjects consisted of 134 senior nursing students who completed their clinical practicums. The students were asked to complete the evaluation survey for the curriculum. The evaluation survey for the curriculum consisted of three parts: 1) academic achievements of educational objectives, care of subjects, and skills; 2) satisfaction with the curriculum, clinical practice environment, and educational environment; 3) demands on the curriculum and clinical practicum. Results: The mean scores on the achievement levels of educational objectives, care of subjects and skills of the students were $3.68{\pm}0.53$, $3.69{\pm}0.59$, and $3.77{\pm}0.56$, respectively. The low rated domains were 'understanding and delivering culturally competent nursing' and 'competence in fundamental nursing skills' in their levels of achievements. Overall, students were satisfied with the nursing curriculum and educational environment. However, their satisfaction scores for the hours and arrangements of the clinical practicum, and the ratios and arrangements of lectures and clinical practicum were relatively low. Conclusion: The findings of this study are important to redesign nursing curriculum in order to prepare graduates for rapidly changing health care environments. We need to try various strategies to improve the clinical competencies of students by designing a curriculum based on social change and student needs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an eye care protocol for intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Method: A systematic review was conducted to develop an eye care protocol for ICU patients. Searches were performed using computerized databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, EBM Review) and citation search from 1996 to January 2007. For the keywords, "eye care", and "randomized controlled trial" were used to identify experimental studies regarding eye care for ICU patients. After reviewing the collected studies, a preliminary eye care protocol algorithm was created. Then, content validity was examined with ophthalmologists and ICU nurses. Results: Six studies were included to serve as a basis for framing of the preliminary algorithm. The final eye care protocol was completed after verifying the preliminary algorithm's content validity. The final eye care protocol was organized in the following manner: 3 items in the assessment stage, 7 items in the no-risk stage, 4 items in the low-risk stage, and 5 items in the high-risk stage. Conclusion: The results indicate that, for ICU patients, nurses can broaden their knowledge regarding ocular diseases, as well as improve their practice-based eye care nursing performance.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the mediating effects of self-efficacy between academic stress and college adjustment in first year nursing students. Method: Data were collected from 396 first year nursing students from 3 junior colleges and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations and structural equation model (SEM) with PASW 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs. Results: There was a negative relationship between academic stress and college adjustment but a positive relationship between self-efficacy and college adjustment. There was a partial mediating effect of self-efficacy between academic stress and college adjustment. Conclusion: The results indicate a need to develop programs that effectively promote the self-efficacy of first year nursing students to decrease academic stress and maximize college adjustment. Further studies are needed in which other factors that could affect college adjustment are examined.
