Purpose: To examine the relations among occupational satisfaction, stress, and customer orientation of upper-scale general hospital nurses. Method: We studied with structured questionnaires with total 66 questions for 218 nurses working at university hospitals in Gangwon-do from February 2 to 22, 2010. Result: Occupational satisfaction and customer-oriented character increased when nurses' ages and career experiences were higher, married, working in daytime without shift and in higher positions. Occupational stress increased when nurses were younger, not married, with three shifts, and when they were general nurses. However, there was no statistical difference. Customer-oriented character had positive correlation with occupational satisfaction and stress while occupational satisfaction had negative correlation(r=-0.358) with occupational stress. Conclusion: As occupational stress and satisfaction of nurses in university hospitals showed significant relations with customer-oriented character, t is necessary to reduce occupational stress of nurses, and strengthen occupational satisfaction of them.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the view on old age of nurses working at general hospitals, geriatric hospitals, oriental hospitals and public health centers. Methods: Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from 461 nurses working at 3 general hospitals, 8 geriatric hospitals, 7 oriental hospitals and 6 public health centers located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheong-do from June 20 to September 6, 2012. Results: The mean score of the nurses' view about old age was 3.38 out of 5 points. The details show that the 'society character' was the highest at 4.58, followed by the 'capacity character' 3.94, the 'psychology-economical character' 3.02 and the 'physical-cognitive character' 2.71. As for workplace, oriental hospitals had the highest points on the view about old age, while geriatric hospitals had the lowest. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that the nurses' view about old age were above the moderate level. As for workplace, geriatric hospital nurses had the lowest view about old age. Therefore, it is recommended to develop an educational program that may promote the nurses' view about old age and provide the better elderly care service.

This study is conducted to find out the nurses' character for care and the workplace bullying for the early stage nurses working in the clinical field and their relation in order to understand the factors which would affect the consequence of the workplace bullying. Data collected from 131 early stage nurses working at one general hospital for 7 months was used for this study. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Hierarchical multiple regression by using SPSS/WIN 21.0. It was found that high the nurses' character for care was related to the lower workplace bullying (type and consequence) (r=-.31, p<.001; r=-.26, p=.003) and that the worse the score in the type of bullying wasthe higher consequence (r=.54, p<.001). The multiple regression analysis showed that the factors affecting the consequence of the workplace bullying were the type of bullying (β=.48), dissatisfaction with nursing (β=.22), and moderate satisfaction with nursing (β=.19) and that the explanation of the model by variables was 32.5%. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that the effort of lowering the occurrence of the type of bullying and the strategy of enhancing the satisfaction with nursing such as improvement in the quality of nursing education be made in order to improve the consequence of workplace bullying at the workplace for the early stage nurses.

The purpose of this study was to test the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between nurses' character and burnout. Participants were 118 clinical nurses in general hospitals located in J province. From August 1st to 31st, 2020, a questionnaire scale was used to collect the data. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, linear regression, and the Sobel test. The study revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between character and resilience (r=.63, p<.001) and a negative correlation with burnout (r=-.48, p<.001). Also, resilience had a partial mediating effect on character and burnout. In this paper, we propose the importance of character education in nursing curriculum. It is quite difficult to define what character is. It is solely because a person's character is very abstract yet comprehensive at the same time. Nevertheless, the East defines character as someone's personality that he or she is naturally born with. Someone's character contains two elements: what he or she was born with, a nature, and how the person has and is to become. The nature is difficult to change through education since one is born with such disposition. However, another half of one's character can be educated to be reformed and developed in the right manner. And this specific education is called character education. Today in Korea, education to cultivate one's character has become a cause celebre, especially when evaluating a nursing department's certification. To be a good nurse, one must not only be skillful but also has the ability to help others or make ethical and clinical judgments. Yet, most nursing departments in Korea out there are overwhelmingly focused on the curriculum related to obtaining licenses and to become a registered nurse. Thus, this is to suggest alleviating such a stress and expanding the curriculum for character education.
