A study of inpatient satisfaction levels at general hospitals (일 지역 상급종합병원 입원환자의 만족도 연구)

  • This study provides fundamental data in order to obtain improved medical services and competitiveness by analyzing the satisfaction level of patients receiving inpatient services at general hospitals. Data from self-administered surveys distributed to inpatient subjects at local general hospitals was collected from 09/19/2011 to 09/30/2011. Firstly, the results of 320 surveys show that the average level of satisfaction from inpatient services was 3.25 (maximum 4.0). Secondly, the results from general characteristics and satisfaction from medical care provider services showed that there is a statistical significance regarding medical treatment, health condition, the number of times admitted to the hospital, and hospital environment including hospital admittance/release proceeders. Also the satisfaction with other services is statistically significant with regards to age, medical treatment, health condition, and the number of times admitted to the hospital. Thirdly, there is a statistically significant positive correlation between inpatient services and levels of satisfaction. Finally, from the analysis of factors influencing inpatient satisfaction showed that physician services and other services significantly affect satisfaction. In conclusion, in order to increase inpatient levels of satisfaction the workforce involved medical treatment of patients need to be retained and a variety of programs need to be in operation that will satisfy patients while they stay in the hospital. Further research is expected.

The Relationships between Emotional Labour and Depressive Symptoms Among Nurses in University Hospitals (대학병원 간호사들의 감정노동과 우울수준과의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the relationships between emotional labour and depressive symptoms among nurses in university hospitals. Subjects were 514 nurses working at three university hospitals in Daejeon City, and the survey was a structured self- administered questionnaire based from April 1 until May 31 2012. As a results, the level of depressive symptoms by the subjects emotional labour level was significantly higher in the group with higher total average points of the emotional labour than the lower group, As for the correlation between the level of depressive symptoms and emotional labour factors, the depressive symptoms points showed significant positive correlation with the total points of the emotional labour. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, age, leisure time, coffee consumption, subjective health status, physical burden of work, sense of satisfaction at work, fit to the job and emotional labour were selected as significant variables and related variables effecting the level of depressive symptoms. These variables' descriptive power was 39.4%, especially, it can be seen that 11.0% descriptive power increased by putting the emotional labor variables. The results above imply that there is significant relation between emotional labor and depressive symptoms and various variables such as socio-demographic characteristics, health-related behavior factors and job-related factors. Also, it can be seen that the emotional labour and depressive symptoms showed significant positive correlation. Therefore, the development and implementation of a program to control emotional labor appropriately should be required for lowering the level of depressive symptoms.

Relationships among Emotional Labor, Fatigue, and Musculoskeletal Pain in Nurses (간호사의 감정노동, 피로 및 근골격계 통증의 관계)

  • This study examined emotional labor, fatigue, and musculoskeletal pain in hospital nurses. The study sample included 235 hospital nurses. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression.The average emotional labor score was 3.27, and of fatigue was 2.04. The musculoskeletal pain score was 4.43. Emotional labor and fatigue are significantly positively associated with musculoskeletal pain(r=.180, p=.006; r=.278, p<.001). Emotional labor was positively associated with the degree of fatigue(r=.353, p<.001). The significant predictors of musculoskeletal pain for nurses were physical fatigue(${\beta}=.324$, p<.001) and gender(female)(${\beta}=.171$, p=.009), explaining 13.7% of the variance in musculoskeletal pain(F=16.271, p<.001). The results suggest that engaging in emotional labor related to nursing tasks increases the risks of fatigue and musculoskeletal pain. Therefore, it is important to develop a management program to relieve the emotional labor, fatigue, and prevent musculoskeletal pain for clinical nurses.

The Effects of Customer's Badness Behavior, Job Burnout, Positive Psychological Capital on Job Embeddedness of Nurses (고객불량행동, 직무소진, 긍정심리자본이 간호사의 직무착근도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was undertaken to identify the impact of bad customer behavior, job burnout, and positive psychological capital, on the job embeddedness of nurses. Data was collected from July 1 to July 31, 2019 using a structured questionnaire, enrolling 198 nurses working at three general hospitals located in 2 metropolitan cities. Data were analyzed by applying t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression, using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Our results indicate that bad customer behavior significantly correlates with job burnout (r=0.24, p=<0.001), positive psychological capital (r=-0.37, p=<0.001), and job embeddedness (r=-0.48, p=<0.001). Moreover, job burnout had a positive impact on psychological capital (r=-0.44, p=<0.001) and job embeddedness (r=-0.31, p=<0.001), whereas positive psychological capital impacted job embeddedness (r=0.49, p=<0.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that bad customer behavior (β=-0.34, p<0.001), positive psychological capital (β=0.32, p=0.004), and position (β=-0.19, p=0.001) had maximum influence (38%) on the level of job embeddedness experienced by nurses. Taken together, results of this study indicate that in order to increase the level of job embeddedness of nurses, it is necessary to develop strategies that eradicate and manage bad customer behavior, and also develop programs that strengthen and develop positive psychological capital.

Effects of Nurses' Transformational Leadership on Job Attitude : The mediating Effects Psychological Capital (간호사가 지각하는 변혁적 리더십이 일의 의미와 이직 의도에 미치는 영향 : 심리적 자본 매개 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of transformational leadership as perceived by nurses working in medical institutions on their work attitudes using psychological capital as a mediating variable. Subjects were 201 nurses working in three general hospitals located in Seoul with more than 300 beds, and SPSS Windows 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 were used for data analysis. As the results of the analysis, transformational leadership had direct effects on psychological capital (.68, p=.007), turnover intention (-.34, p=.008), and meaning of work (.11, p=.007), whereas psychological capital had direct effects on meaning of work (.26, p=.009) and turnover intention (-.07, p=.041). In addition, transformational leadership had indirect effects on turnover intention (-.05, p=.087) and meaning of work (.18, p=.004). The results of this study can be used as a base material in the development of programs to exert positive effects on nurses' work attitudes.

Factors affecting the Patient Safety Attitude and Safety Control on Safety Care Activities among Nurses in Small and Medium-sized Hospitals (중소병원 간호사의 환자안전태도, 안전통제감이 안전간호활동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the factors affecting the safety care activities of 227 nurses in 7 small and medium-sized hospitals in G-city. Data were collected from May 16th to 23rd, 2016, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression with SPSS 18. The levels of patient safety attitudes, safety control and safety care activities were 4.11, 3.74 and 4.33 out of 5, respectively. In the analysis of the patient safety attitudes, there were significant differences in education level and job satisfaction. In the analysis of safety control, there were significant differences in age, education level, working experience, position, experience of safety education, experience of safety accidents, and job satisfaction. In the analysis of the safety care activities, significant differences were found in the education level, work department, experience of safety education, and job satisfaction. The patient safety attitudes, safety control, and safety care activities were positively correlated (with each other). The major factor affecting the safety care activities was the patient safety attitude, followed by safety control and experience of safety education. These findings emphasize the need for nurses to change their perception of patient safety attitudes and safety control, in order to reinforce their safety care activities. They also suggest that various safety nursing cases and systematic support should be provided for continuous patient safety education.

The Influence of Communication, Resilience, Mental health on Military Adjustment of Soldiers in the Rear Air Force (후방 공군 병사의 의사소통, 회복탄력성, 정신건강이 군 적응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to investigate the factors that influence soldiers' military adjustment in the rear air force. The data were collected through a survey of 160 soldiers in N city from Nov. 16th to Dec. 11th, 2015, using appropriate instruments to assess their military adjustment, type of communication, resilience and mental health, and analyzed using IBM SPSS WIN 21. The mean scores for military adjustment, resilience, mental well-being and disorder were $1.25{\pm}0.33$, $3.69{\pm}0.56$, $2.98{\pm}0.94$ and $1.24{\pm}0.36$, respectively. In the analysis of their general characteristics, there were significant differences in age, perceived health and future career. Significantly positive correlations were found between adjustment and placating, blaming and irrelevant communication and mental disorder and significantly negative correlations were found between adjustment and resilience and mental well-being. Mental disorder and blaming communication accounted for 41% of the variance in the military adjustment. The result of this study shows that soldiers' military adjustment is related to mental disorder and blaming communication.

Factors related to Suicide Ideation among Middle School Students (제조업 사업장 남성 근로자의 직무스트레스 내용과 흡연습관과의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to define the relationship between job stress contents and smoking habits of manufacturing male workers. The 872 male workers were observed the general characteristics, smoking habits and job stress contents from the JCQ, during the period from February 1st to April 30st, 2012, using the self-administered questionnaires. As a results, the smoking rate of study subjects was 53.0%, and in terms of smoking status by general characteristics, the smoking group was higher in the group of age, job position and job career than their respective counterparts. In terms of smoking status by job stress contents, the smoking group was higher in the group of job demand and supervisor support than their respective counterparts. Based on the results of logistic regression adjusted age, job position and job career, the odds ratio of smoking was significantly increase in the high group of job demand than that of low group, but it was significantly decrease in the low group of supervisor support than that of high group. Above results suggested that the smoking related with the job demand and the supervisor support among the job stress contents.

Recognition for Nursing Competency Importance, Nursing Competency Level, and Their Influencing Factors of Nurses in the Long-term Care Hospitals (요양병원 간호사의 간호역량 중요성 인식과 간호역량수준 및 영향요인 분석)

  • This study was conducted to identify the recognition for nursing competency importance, nursing competency level, and their influencing factors of nurses in the long-term care hospitals. Participants were 243 nurses who were working in the 11 long-term care hospitals. Data were collected from August 25 to September 3, 2014. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression by SPSS 19.0. Mean scores of the recognition for nursing competency importance and nursing competency level were $4.21{\pm}0.48$ and $3.47{\pm}0.46$ respectively. Nursing competency level was significantly lower than the recognition for nursing competency importance. The variable influencing the recognition for nursing competency importance was the position(${\beta}=.19$). The variables influencing the nursing competency level were the recognition of nursing competency importance (${\beta}=.37$), age (${\beta}=.20$), current work experience (${\beta}=.13$), health status (${\beta}=.13$). The results suggest the need of developing measurement tool and nursing competency enhancement programs which can well reflect the characteristics of nursing competency required in the long-term care hospital.

Relationship Between Job Stress and Fatigue Symptoms Among Nurses in a University Hospital (대학병원 간호사들의 직무스트레스와 피로수준과의 관련성)

  • The present study was intended to measure the level of fatigue symptoms among nurses working for a university hospital and to reveal its related factors. The self-administered questionnaires were given to 450 nurses during the period from October 1st to 31st, 2010. As a results, the level of fatigue symptoms were 75.1% in normal group, and the high-risk group 24.9%. The level of fatigue symptoms reflected in job stress contents were higher as job demand was higher, and the autonomy of job and the supervisor support was lower. In correlations, fatigue symptoms were found to be in a positive correlation with job demand, whereas in negative correlation with autonomy of job and supervisor support. The adjusted odds ratio of fatigue symptoms on job demand were significantly increased in the high risk group than in low group, but autonomy of job. were significantly decreased in the high risk group than in low group. In conclusion, the study results indicated that the level of fatigue symptoms is independently influenced by job stress contents.
